They'll never recapture the magic of 1. Even 2 dropped it. They made Dan too pathetic in his voice and mannerisms to the extent that he felt more like a skeleton mr bean.
Dan in 1 was goofy but it was offset by his manly voice and no-nonsense attitude to all the npcs mocking him.

MediEvil 1 is a fun game, but it's definitely not for everyone.

1 is overall much better. The only reason to play 2 is to fool around with different weapons after experiencing 1.
The only level in 2 that's really any good is the vampire mansion.
