because older games are becoming scarce.
Because people will pay those prices
Does PaRappa even emulate nicely? I know Um Jammer Lammy is a fucking nightmare to emulate.
>I know Um Jammer Lammy is a fucking nightmare to emulate.
WORKS FOR ME!
>Be in Japan
>Popular games are $10-30
>Consoles are $50-80
>Items all in good condition and taken care of
>Many physical shops selling these goods
Fuck the West and the concept of "vintage". Attaching arbitrary value to old shit because capitalism
Is buying Japanese games online any good? I heard they mostly use Yahoo Japan as their equivalent to Craigslist.
>not have flash cartridges to play in your own hardware
I seriously hope you guys don't do this
I have a ton of n64 games, but am really wanting an snes2sd cart since all snes games are a fortune. Worth it? Is there any input lag compared to emulation? I have Higan emulation on my pc, but it seems like it would be more fun on the snes console
>muh collection
Unless it's games I want for my displayed collection, I'll always emulate pre-PS2/Gamecube Era games.
That cart is a complete gimmick that can't even handle half the expansion chip games.
You can get an everdrive knockoff for around 30-40 bucks for most systems, and when it comes to the SNES, that's the best option.
Then, just pick up the expansion chip games you want from Japan for 5-10 bucks a piece. If you really need something like Megaman X or Mario RPG in English, just emulate it.
fuck. i was going through my mp3's earlier and went through the bust a move ost. kind of want to get it again
Old games aren't expensive though? I mean, you got some rare ones, but I can easily buy PS1 copies of Symphony of the Night or PaRappa for $10 - $20. Hell, I was at a store recently where the Dreamcast was being sold for $50 and Dreamcast games for anywhere between $10 - $40. Seems pretty reasonable.
Use mednafen or its core in RetroArch. Works pretty close to perfect. The input lag is almost nonexistent.
Yeah the west should be more like Japan and not capitalist at all thanks dipshit
watch as i have fun emulating Sega Saturn.
>Hell, I was at a store recently where the Dreamcast was being sold for $50 and Dreamcast games for anywhere between $10 - $40.
My Dreamcast was 5 dollars back in the day. Every game for it was free because of CD-Rs.
Lots of old games are extremely expensive. Back when I was considering picking up a mega drive for the first time in a decade, I searched for a few of the titles I used to own, and found out that Thunder Force 4 alone would cost more than a flashcart capable of playing 99.99% of the library. These games were sold in their millions, and I don't really see much point in paying stupid money for something because it's old and there's a retro bubble going on. Especially when that money is just going into the pockets of greedy cunts who prowl garage sales.
>90 bucks
>for a greatest hits version
I actually have a super Mario RPG cart anyway. Recently got it because it's a favorite. I'll look around for the ever drive. Which one should I get? And is there input lag when using a flash cart? I was waiting so long to get the sd2snes cart because it's over 300 dollars in Canadian dollars.
>pc master race cant emulate games from the 90s
lmaooo
Because jet set radio future is almost impossible to emulate well thanks to some dipshit from reddit and I've been waiting well over half a decade for the port
>Which one should I get?
Whatever is the cheapest, they all clone the same thing. I forget if they're still banned on Aliexpress, you might have to look for some sketchy listing to find them.
>is there input lag when using a flash cart?
No. There's absolutely zero difference between a flash cart and the real thing unless the cart has some special features, in which case the game just won't work. The flash memory is more than capable of delivering a ROM in real time.
this
>Parappa case is obviously cracked, you don't evem know the condition of the disc, asking 69.99
You could easily move that shit for 30 bucks, but then I guess they wouldn't take advantage of that 1% of the Internet that goes all-out because he has a small dick and his parents have alot of money.
>"retro"/used game store pops up in town
>decide to check it out
>shelves are a complete mess
>store stunk of rotting meat
>everything is triple price of the highest ebay listing and in shit condition
>clone consoles and controllers everywhere
>various lead filled plushes of game characters that are obvious mexican made knock offs
>pierced and tattooed fat employee doesn't know how to haggle so calls manager
>curry slinging pissant comes out of the back and screams NO DISCOUNT for a game he has 15 copies
>leave the store and went down the street to get a megaslush instead
I almost feel bad for contacting local health and building inspectors.
>underage
>mfw i got Yakuza 2 nearly mint condition 3 years ago for practically nothing while Americans were then paying $75+ for the disc only
It’s you guys desu
Yahoo Japan is their equivalent of eBay, not Craigslist. Mandarake is basically a thrift shop chain though they don't sell games too often and are more for figures, and then you have stuff like Amazon.co.jp which is used both for used and new stuff but the middlemen are painful to deal with there.
This pretty much covers why resale prices are fucked in the west.

>>Parappa case is obviously cracked
Thing with CD jewel cases is they're all exactly the same so a crack is meaningless. Empty ones you can move all the sleeves and inserts into cost less than $1 a pop.
>Attaching arbitrary value to old shit because capitalism
>what is supply and demand
>what is basic economics
>what are price systems
Everyone should just get shit for free fuck donald drumpf and fuck white people amirite?
nice strawman
thats your basic fucking argument though you mongoloid. Don't be pulling shit because you're a broke ass nigger and can't afford to buy old games. Emulate them like the rest of us and be a happy poorfag
no one is asking for free shit, just to not get ripped off you fucking retard
That is where you are wrong. the ones you linked are not even the ones Sony used for ps1 games, as you can see by the blacksolid connector covering the hinge portion. Games like TurboGrafix had custom cases that LOOK like CD Jewel cases but are not. I can go on.
Any retro game store worth its salt would be selling SotN for around $40-50.
Of course, you could just get Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP for much less and get a remake of Rondo, the original Rondo, and the best version of SotN all in one place.
yeah, i'll just replace the jewel case because it's cracked
and i'll transfer the game to a new cd because it's scratched
and i'll print a new manual since the pages are missing
now i have a mint-condition copy of the game!
>Why do people sell games at high price nowadays?
Just buy chipped console and write your own CDs.
Obviously, the prices for those CDs are way too high for how old they are (console doesn't sound bad though).
If you were to sell PS1 CDs, what would be the highest and lowest price you would place in general? What's the price for a rare game and the price for a common game?
>EYES: BRN
THEY'RE GREEEEEEEN!
For non-rare games, I have no problem dropping like 10 bucks on an in-case ps1 game with manual. I grabbed nightmare creatures at a swap meet last weekend for 10.
I'd pay more for something like Symphony of the night if I could ever find a damn copy
>SEX: YES
goddamnit
>popular games are $10-30
That's how it is here too, unless the seller has no fucking clue about video games
A rare game in Japan will be just as costly as a rare game in the West.
Sometimes Game X is not as rare in Japan as it is in the West.
The people who are paying those prices and keeping those prices at that level don't think they're getting ripped off. What's your problem?
Only mental patients don't emulate games that old. or buy them anywhere but on a vc service
Why would you pay that much for it anyway? You buy it, put it on a shelf and then never think of it again except for those few times a year where you look at your games and go "I want to play this someday but not now because I have other things to do and newer games to play".
Yeah but that's a handheld game so who the fuck wants that trash.
japanese stores rely on people buying games, beating them and selling them back
westerners hoard their stuff, making it become more and more scarce
More people that didn't get to grow up with these games looking for them, creates scarcity, especially as more of a collectors market grows.
Also youtube videos with lists of the best games, really push up prices of people looking for under-rated gems or whatever.
Here's a good example too. I own the PAL version of SOTN with the extra music disk and artbook. I think this thing goes for anywhere between £80-160?
I bought the game on the psn store for 2 pounds.
I don't think disks have a longer life span than 30 years. Why would I keep it?
Because this guy is willing to buy them at a high price.
That makes me really sad.
It's why I've always kept my original x-box around.
It doesn't even run that well on my 360. My favourite games don't run on my 360, I hate that cunt machine.
>store stunk of rotten meat
If you were in the UK, that store would be a CEX
>Arbitrary
Know how I know you're retarded?
>I own the PAL version of SOTN
I used to own SotN too but my brother sold it for peanuts way back in the day. I wouldn't have mind if it had been one of our shared games but SotN had been a birthday gift for me.
It's all down to individual games. You have to factor in things like genuine scarcity balanced against demand. Games like Symphony of the Night end up being hard to circulate, because it's not scarce (they made plenty of copies) but it's eminently desirable. To make someone sell, there has to be enough value there. As a result, the retail price increases.
