>The visual novel/eroge and anime Fate/stay night features a young female knight called Saber whose true name is Arturia. She became King by pulling free the sword from the stone. Knowing that armies wouldn't follow a woman, she renamed herself King Arthur and used Merlin's magic to hide her gender.
What the hell is weeb's problem?

>The Wii game Sonic and the Black Knight features the main protagonist, Sonic the Hedgehog saving the city Camelot from King Arthur after he becomes corrupt and calls himself the Black Knight. After defeating the Black Knight/King Arthur, Merlin's granddaughter Merlina reveals to Sonic & the Knight of the Roundtable that the King Arthur they knew was a fake created by her grandfather. In the end, Sonic was revealed to be King Arthur himself, as Caliburn (actually Excalibur) said he was the one who decides who is worthy of the crown.
Woah..

Autism.
Why they couldn't just use themes and references to arthurian legend is anybody's guess, it barely has anything to do with it already.

I read Morte de Arthur. Lancelot never fucked her. He saved her from public execution and Arthur was simultaneously stoked and pissed off. Eventually Lancelot gave her back. Lancelot did not fuck in general except for one time he fathered Gallahad by fucking the hell out of one of Morgan's friends but only because she was using witchcraft to look like Guinevere. Lancelot was not perfect and killing Gawin's brothers was fucked up but killing Gawin was not fucked up, that guy wanted a showdown with the best knight ever kill or be killed and he got his wish. Lancelot eventually became a priest and all his Joyous Gard broskis became monks, then when they were all old and had diminished skills they traveled to the holy land to fight the moors and they all died on good friday. The moors were raping and pillaging and killing innocent people and a bunch of good men abandoned their families and sold everything they owned to buy weapons and armor and travel to the holy land to thin out the population of bad guys because that is what good guys do. Lancelot totally did not fuck her, but he did try to once, and that is totally not okay, but he redeemed himself in the end.

>Want arthurian games
>It's all japanese
Kind of expected actually

That's a literal french addition.
The original arthur tale is about a 5th century celtic warlord fucking up the invading saxons.

the only arthurian vidya i can even think of is Knights of the Round

ultima 7/underworld is pretty good for old school medieval fantasy though
siege of avalon isnt arthurian but also old school medieval fantasy - not terribly great or original but fun
quest for glory isn't arthurian but kinda captures the heroic feeling (you can become a paladin as you level up across all 5 games)

also friendly reminder to everyone: watch excalibur and see wagner operas

Lancelot is some fag guy French invention.
Was never even in the oridgey didgey stories.
Also the way the frogs recharacterised Cai as a dick is bullshit.
He was top bro to Arthur.

You have top tier taste hombre.
Fucking top tier.
Those games are all in my yearly play rotation.

...

There was a Total war like King Arthur RTS and the Knights of the Round arcade game was top baller.

Arthurian user, not Viking. Its like comparing cowboys to 20's gangsters.

A better question is what's with the sudden surge of popularity that D&D is having. It's gotten to the point where people I know are getting into it.

it's totally fucking arthurian

you get excalibur and everything

I've debated getting into Ultima, but I understand it's a storied franchise? Can one just hop in to one of the later games, or will you be left confused?

Also fuck yes, I love the Quest for Glory games. No series has better captured that sense of adventure.

I think think the devs confusing arthurian for the Beowulf sagas. Ah ,well Arthur has its roots on Anglo-Saxon/Norman origins anyhow.

Critical Role, Big Bang Theory, whatever else is making it accessible and even mainstream

there are characters and plot elements that recur throughout the series and if you don't play the games they originate from then you can become a bit confused, but i wouldn't say you'll be totally lost since most of the time the devs kept new players in mind and include easy ways to figure things out or explain things that you should know in-character

my advice to you would be to simply grab ultima 7 and its expansion and read some of the manuals and just play around there because that's probably the best game of the series and it doesn't require you to know that much going in (it's also a lot more fun to play than the older ones)

ultima underworld is really good but also really clunky at first, but once you get the hang of it it's a very immersive dungeon crawler, older than elder scrolls but just as good (if not even better)

also if you like quest for glory then i am obligated to recommend the original kings quest games if you haven't played them before, they can be fucking hardcore (especially the third one) but they're classics for a reason

I have played the KQ games, though what drew me to QFG was the RPG stuff.

I'm playing through Conquest of Camelot right now, and I recommend both it and Conquest of the Longbow. I also can't wait for Hero U.

So just jump into Ultima 7? Does it run well?

...

The GoG edition of U7 runs pretty well, but not as well as you'll hope once you start playing. The main problems with it are the controls and the inventory interface, both of which can be forgiven since they were fairly new innovations at the time. Just remember to keep your stuff organized and you should be okay, like you'll probably want to have one party member be the pack mule for food, another for weapons, etc while you keep important quest items on yourself. Avoid putting too many containers within containers (you can do it, just don't get too crazy or you could bug your inventory)
Key storage will drive you fucking insane but it's manageable.

They are a disgrace to the legend.
