It's actually a pretty good B game
TURN UP THE RADIO
When I played it I just felt like it was Mini-games: the role playing game. I don't think i'll ever understand the love it gets.
The writing was clever and funny. The game gave you plenty of options to tackle encounters. It was like playing a Bond rpg. Definitely not perfect though. The shooting was basic and the game looked pretty bad for it's time.
I thought it was pretty dumb. Every gun sucked. Unarmed gets bogged down by completely useless moves that you can't deactivate later on. Don't remember the rest of the specifics of why I didn't like it. It's worth a playthrough at least.
>you cant fuck the mute
Sequel never ;___;
Someone recommended Alpha Protocol to me when I said that i wanted Burn Notice game. Is it true?
Yes, it was, shame it was kind of buggy.
I really think it could've went places had it just gotten some more time to iron them out.
I don't think current obsidian could make a good game like this one again.
While the writing is great on its own, the biggest draw of it is its reactivity. Sadly, that only shows on a second playthrough, and due to the terrible balance and immense amount of bugs and glitches, few people make it that far.
To anybody who couldn't get through: If you want ez mode to just see the story content, spec pistols and stealth. If the mini games annoy you, pick Sabotage as your third class skill. That way you have the easiest time getting to the end. If you do plan on making two playthroughs, plan out your approach in dialogues. Maybe make one aggressive + murderous and one professional + passive playthrough.
I'm inclined to agree. Here's hoping for PoE2 turning out okay at least. Why the fuck did they add romance? Two years ago, I would've said people overestimate Avellone's influence. Now I can't help but think he was one of the last people holding the company together.
Obsidian is going through the same phase the other rpg devs went through.
Basically key persons within the company are leaving it and total retards take their place.
If you think Avellone "The Living, Breathing Meme" is anywhere near being a "key" person in Obsidian, you're delusional. Even in Obsidian's best written games like KotOR2 and MotB, his input was minimal and definitely not the best the games had to offer. Meanwhile, Tim Cain, most of the MotB team including Fenstermaker who IS working on PoE2, and Sawyer aka the mastermind behind Vegas are still there and have no plans of leaving. In other words, you have no clue what you're talking about.
It's pretty much the only game that properly deliver s on the your choices matter thing.
Why do you think that obsidian is becoming shit then?
>the game looked pretty bad for it's time.
I usually laugh at muh graphics fags for whining about games like Deus Ex or Morrowind, but even games like AP? I don't understand, what's wrong with the game's graphics? Jesus christ.
It is either the best bad game I've ever played or the worst good game I've ever played.
Scarlet was best girl. If someone picked Mina, you shouldn't associate with them.
>I don't-a like the mountains.
Did you shit yourself?
>It's pretty much the only game that properly deliver s on the your choices matter thing.
Jesus fucking Christ play more goddamn video games.
You literally get a burn notice put out on you/, so yeah.
definitely the most underrated game of the 7th gen. greatly fun and unique dialogue system and the other gameplay elements aren't as bad as people make it out to be unless you're going in with 0 skill points in your weapons of choice like that stupid mouthbreather angry joe.
also sooooo many small things you can do that will influence shit, or give you a perk or other small nice things like that. sequel never ever fuck normies
Thorton more like Thornton
I hated the level design because of this.
Holy shit, this is like finding an unicorn.
>The game gave you plenty of options to tackle encounters
Not as many as I'd like, personally.
The game gives you a lot of freedom to spec your character and experiment, but it doesn't warn you that there will be forced combat encounters in the game, bosses and such, that you have no other option but to fight through. In fact, only about 6 missions are actually pure stealth without forced combat at any point. You learn them well when going for One with the Shadows.
Now, I've seen people say that you have to take responsibility over your decisions and you can't expect it to perform as well as other builds in every situation. That's true. But there should be a route for every build. That's the mark of good game design.
Doing my first run ever of the game in Recruit/Hard was a mistake. The Sis fight was my first real mission after Saudi Arabia and I had no points at all in anything combat related.
>Unarmed gets bogged down by completely useless moves
The Strong attack breaks blocks and the jumpkick is almost as amusing as the one in Dead Rising. If anything the Point-blank Shot is a bit underwhelming by how much you have to invest in the skill but there's nothing truly useless. What are you on about?
Best girl was Steven you faggot.
>obsidian is becoming shit then?
They're only becoming better. PoE is their best actual RPG with the best roleplaying depth they've ever made. It's not as well written as KotOR2 or MotB, but it sure as hell is a better RPG mechanically.
And to clarify: New Vegas is an action RPG (like Gothic, Deus Ex or Bloodlines), so it's not the same genre.
Imo Alpha Protocol should have been two or three games, with the first one being working the whole time with AP before being betrayed. That way you get to attach yourself to the characters, and have interesting dynamics with them, also the feel of being a spy for a bigger organization and having different handlers outside of those handpicked missions. Maybe coming up across G22 Intel by the first game's end to foreshadow the betrayal in the second game. As it is now the beginning feels super rushed.
So true. Although there's no level exclusive loot that you can't find later. The only thing that is actually missable is Intel.
>tfw finding the Silencer MK3 after having bought it
I thought they had some random guy manning the station who got orders to let people asking to see the computer pass, no questions asked. So I played it cool and pretended I was a maintainance man. then I saw his face in the veteran playthrough and found out he deliberately pretends to know nothing but really does know.
Albatross best boy.
I like that idea. Too late for it, though.
I liked the story and the decision making, but man, I fucking hated the actual gameplay. I fought my way through this game once and have no desire to ever touch it again, even though I accidentally let Mina die because I went the wrong way.
I kinda wanna see Obsidian give Alpha Protocol another shot, but please revamp the gameplay.
It is obvious they cut a lot of corners. You see it with handlers. You have mina 90% of the time. In roma you can have the other girl for like 1 mission and the 3 guys of AP are handlers but unless you do their tutorial you dont even get the bonus stats. Then when you return its obvious you should have some relationship with them but its 0 because of the problems.
That said I dont think splitting it up would be better. First of all I dont think it would selll enough for a sequel anyway. And it would make AP1 feel halfbaked.
Maybe it wouldve been better you got saudi arabia. Then a second mission to kill some rogue agent. Then you find out he isnt what it seems it is, then the rockets hit both of you. Maybe allow the player to select who they carry with them as a rogue agent instead of getting mina. although that would make the twist non-viable
They say a lot that they want to go back to it, though.
Sure, but I don't think a prequel would be the same as having the games in chronological order.
Besides, rights lie with SEGA. They didn't even let Obsidian release patches for the game. I know a lot's been said on Twitter, but to my knowledge it always came from Obsidian, nothing from SEGA.
A prequel makes total sense btw
Make it so you play as marburg, and then, make another sequel where you play as Albatross
>Maybe allow the player to select who they carry with them as a rogue agent instead of getting mina.
The first time I played I actually thought that the person you had the best relationship with would be your handler. It's such a waste.
I agree that it could feel half baked since it would be all preparing for a big payoff that happens in another game, I have a very barebones idea after all, but I seriously think the beginning act needed to be expanded, it feels like there's a lot of potential there that goes nowhere.
And yeah, these games are rather niche, I was actually surprised Mass Effect got that big.
Turning on that stealth ability and just running up to punch motherfuckers in the throat is broken as hell but god damn hilarious
The forced combat bosses are really annoying, to the point where I would do basically every mission in one of the areas but not do the last mission, leaving for one of the other areas and repeating that. That way, I'd actually have time to unlock something like max pistols so that fighting them didn't suck utter dick. It makes no sense in the context of the game, though.
This is one game that really got conversations right, when they flat out tell you at the start that they didn't pick you as an agent because of your physical training or intelligence or how suave you are but because you know how to manipulate people
>marburg
Marburg is a cool character and he would certainly work as a main character, but his parallels to Mike are too strong, the game could turn out feeling sameish.
Also that it's not necessarily good to get chummy with people, you might need to get them angry or otherwise antagonize them.
>I was actually surprised Mass Effect got that big.
people like waifus. Even dudebros. Its just that spending a lot of effort thinking and working with stats is kinda hard. So having a 3rd person shooter with a simple dialogue wheel was enough to get people onboard.
Im sure with massive marketing and more fluid shooting this game wouldve been a hit. Like DX HR
>but I seriously think the beginning act needed to be expanded, it
they probably wanted to as well. Seeing how they made all the guys at AP a handler. But they didnt get around it obviously.
It certainly doesn't hurt, though, on my playthrough I made sure to play nice with everyone and by the time it was over I had a huge network all to myself.
I fucking hate how much of a loser marburg is and he always likes me because of how much of a smooth operator I am. I always want to try befriending him once, but then I see his punchable face face and his defeatist acceptance of being a lapdog and I tell him to fuck off
Outside of maybe CRPGs, pretty much every game with choices just take a little detour at best, only to connect to the same path again later.
>and he always likes me
I seriously love how, even if you actively try to piss him off during your one conversation he practically falls in love with you anyway if you were halfway competent up to that point. Getting to kill him at Rome is practically impossible to achieve if you don't know about it beforehand.
TURN UP
THE RAAAAAAAAADIO
I WANNA FEEL IT
GOTTA GIMME SOME MO'
lol
>he praises me for staying under the radar
>load up save and shoot the icecream man just to piss him off.
Also fuck mina for being mad at me killing CIA agents while having no issues with shooting other peopel
>load up save and shoot the icecream man just to piss him off.
...
>omar deng game never
That's another cool as fuck character I'd love to see more of. He's also pretty stylish to boot.
Is it wrong that I ended up liking Brayko a bit?
Its a broken shit
youtu.be
>gives up everything and kills people he loves to be the ultimate guardian to his adoptive father
>he fails and only your decision to save the assassination info saves the guy
no idea how the could pull off that chuuni look with such confidence
wow he lost of lot of wait
He is a selfmade man which is pretty cool. But his extravagance is detestable.
>5 peso pablo review
but even games like AP?
AP came out 2010, unlike DE and morrowind who looked good for when they came out
Legitimately still the best conversation and relationship systems ever put into an RPG.
What exactly would go wrong if Obsidian was given the ok to make another Alpha Protocol?
What is happening here?
it would be another sales failure with a bunch of shit being cut
i wanna suck it
Measured defensive violence after being subjected with potentially lethal force
Why, though? What is it about this kind of game that doesn't work?
Literally the only bad part of Alpha Protocol is the combat, and you can skip it by using pistols. Everything else is fucking fantastic.
>That subway station level
>Omen Deng commends you for blending in if you come in wearing clothes, and chastises you if you wear armor
>Not going full ghost and let no one even know you were there
you can avoid marburg?
I was talking about the CIA mission
>you can avoid marburg?
>go on a mission whose objective is to have a chat with Marburg
>instead of normally showing up you decide to stealthily oversee the place until Marburg finally shows up, doesn't see you and then leaves, with you tailing him and finding out where he is
well I was roleplaying selfish pimp thorton who fucked all the girls and shot everyone in the face. Mina didnt have any issue with that until I shot american citizens in the face. Pathetic crocodile tears. Especially when she didnt have an issue rocketing my face off
I thought Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky were working on a secret project that Boyarsky described as his dream game?
Whats wrong with Mina?
he actually has different armor lines for whether its stealth or combat too
Did anyone actually not shoot the arab terrorist?
Shaheed? Normally I don't because he gives you intel later on
I've done a playthrough where I let all the Halbach pawns live and recruit them to my side (like Brayko etc.) and then another one where its Mike Thorton, psycopath murderer
>Mike Thorton, psycopath murderer
There were so many times where I killed them because I didn't trust them not to come back and bite me in the ass if I let them live.
Pretty much none of them bite you in the ass, although it's implied Shaheed is planning to do something bad if you don't go along with his DEATH TO AMERICA plan.
>Are you ready to betray your country?
What did he mean by this? I honestly didn't get it.
I wanted to arrest him.
>still works for NSA
>she is the cause of the rockets to force you to get burned and then uses you as a pawn to see what AP is about for the NSA. All while pretending to be the good guy
>if you piss her off she calls you the bad guy even though she was the one who used you as a tool
I didn't. I wasn't in full asshole thorton mode yet.
America wants to sell weapons. By blowing up AP you work against the USA.
its kinda sad how no target is worth killing.
>bryajek tells you that the lawyer is dirty
>arab dude gives you info on who gave him the rockets
>omar is a good guy
>saving the girl in rome will cause her to be a politician that prevents them from spending millions of security
bumpu
I thought the thread was lost already, cheers.
Any way to farm the AR trophy? 100 killing headshots is a pain in the ass when I have to wait for the reticle to fill up every time.
isnt there a talent which gives you better accuracy? Why do you need a trophy?
>you will never return after crashing AP to madison and guilttrip her into pleasing your every sexual whim and become a devoted, perverted wife
>isnt there a talent which gives you better accuracy?
AFAIK it simply follows the targets automatically.
>Why do you need a trophy?
There's no need, it's merely for the sake of completion. I like 100%-ing games I like.
>tfw you ruin her to the point she leaves you for Marburg due to developing a hostage fetish, unable to stop thinking about the museum incident
>woman freely putting her into a position where she shows her infidelity and is easy to let "disappear".
nobody likes a disfunctional onahole
No, it's a shit game.
It's a nice interactive movie though.
I let that gopnik son of a bitch go and I didn't get his music set. What gives?
did you kill the lawyer. Otherwise he puts gopnik out of his misery
You have to have a good rep with him also.
