Ace attorney.

both are good

>53 games
>still no Ultimate Attorney character
Could someone please explain?

They're both fine though generally I prefer the characters in AA. Don't really care for high school sim shit in general which puts DR down a bit for me.

I think people downplay how retarded AA gets in almost all of it's final cases though, even if it's never as ridiculous as DR's endings. I do think the idea of a Layton crossover was pretty apt all things considered (still want a sequel someday with less handholding, more evenly balanced out between the AA and Layton sides, and maybe bring Trucy and Flora in this time too)

Someone didn't play Danganronpa 5

Overall AA but goddamn DR 2-5 was one of the wildest fucking rides in videogames.

AA but I like both.

>don't really care for high school sim shit in general which puts DR down a bit for me
To what kind of highschool did you go user? Do you mean the free time events?

They dont want to make their plagiarism too obvious

Both are good

But you made a mistake by posting original trilogy AA

Future trilogy and Edgeworth are better desu

Ibuki outright namedrops Ace Attorney at one point though

I came top of the class at my end of year battle royale deathmatches user, what about you?
I meant the general plot elements and characterization that comes with having the cast consist of high school kids. See Persona for a comparison, I'm not able to enjoy that series at all for the same reason, it's just not for me I suppose.

Also, Mugi outright spoils you Spirit of Justice in chapter 2

Ace Attorney has better story. And crimes. And characters.

But Danganronpa is more wacky and has more fun with itself. It also has less offensive lows oh wait, anime happened, at least Ace Attorney's anime didn't retroactively ruin games.

AA has more gameplay, is more evenly paced and has a more sensible plot but DR has some unforgettable characters and animations along with a neat sense of style.

None

both

I doubt it. Even one of the characters was going to look like Phoenix before they reconsidered.

>at least Ace Attorney's anime didn't retroactively ruin games
user, don't hurt me like this

god, they really made Hajimeme irredeemable to me in dr3. What a whiny piece of shit.

Danganronpa is a lot more consistent because there have been fewer games to mess up, but overall Ace Attorney is better.
However, DR2 is better than any AA game.

Mysteries and cases are more solid in AA. They're more consistent at that.
However, DR is better with characters, dialogue and interaction with them.

But at the end of the day, they're two very different franchises and I can't really compare them. The way both games handle the story and characters is too different.

AA has better writing, so AA

>DR2
>Better than first AA, TT or GK2

>And characters.
Nah.
Danganronpa characters are way better. AA characters are extremely underveloped save for like a couple of them.
Why do you think DR has become much more popular than AA on the internet? The characters.

The obvious truth is that Ace Attorney is father of all VN/adventure/puzzle type of games like Professor Layton and Danganronpa. Its impact is something everyone can see and that alone makes it the king of this type of games.

AA, at least in the original trilogy, has way better written characters than DR but DR's characters appeal more to the braindead masses.

>Ace Attorney is father of all VN/adventure/puzzle type
>puzzle type
Ace Attorney are not puzzle games at all but I get what you're trying to say. You're also incorrect, the progenitor of the genre is Portopia Serial Murder Case and even Takumi cites it as such IIRC.

Ace Attorney. I tried playing Danganronpa but I really didn't like the story, characters, or art style.

>AA characters are extremely underveloped save for like a couple of them
>he posts this while ignoring the fact that the majority of, if not all, DR characters are either anime tropes, one note, or just badly written
Also
>Why do you think DR has become much more popular than AA on the internet?
Fujos and tumblr

danganronpa

>much more popular
hownew.ru

yeah, that's why DR is the more popular one
oh wait

All DR characters have backstories and personalities.

95% of AA characters are one-shot gimmicks that just exist to be case characters and nothing else.

I played and ultimately enjoyed both series, but AA is better in every way.

>Fujos and tumblr
>he says this while ignoring the fact AA is plagued with fujos and tumblr shit

Epic.

It isn't 2007 anymore, fag.

No one cares about AA anymore.

Very compelling argument.

How about the fact that just first Ace Attorney sold more copies than Danganronpa trilogy combined.

Very compelling argument.

Please tell me more about how Wii Sports is the most popular Nintendo game ever.

>sales=popularity
Are you actually retarded?

Backstories that have no relevance and personalities that are completely stagnant because most of the characters exist to be canon fodder. You want to include AA side characters, fair enough, but at least they have the excuse of being side characters. What excuse do the characters that don't die in DR have for being so poorly written?

OG AA trilogy + Edgeworth > DR > AA otherwise IMO

I like em all though

AA has better story telling, but DR is more fun to play.

What's her actual quote? I vaguely remember noticing that.

uh
yeah
that's pretty much correct

Maybe it's because I played AA when I was younger but it seemed less handhold-y. The only thing that really stumped me was a case in DR2 but thats only because I liked this bitch and I didn't expect her to fucking lie to me

Is this really true though? Does media actually create sales?

how the fuck do I buy DanganRonpa3 without going through steam for the PC?

Ace Attorney

Ghost Trick > AA1/5/6 > DR2 > Layton vs Wright > AA3 > AA2/4 > Investigations > UDG > DRV3 > DR1

She has some mental issues but she is not a bad girl user

>AA1/5/6
>5/6

Try harder next time.

>Same mastermind every game

Just played DR 1 and 2. Should I skip the anime and go straight to V3?

ace attorney. danganronpa is so fucking gay

Making an account is free you know

>he says this while AA5 and its cringe animu cutscenes POWER OF FRIENDSHIP exists

Drop the series.

Fucking yes, but play UDG first

I'm saying sales are the best indicator of popularity.

>it's a hospital case
>you have a nurse in the team
>still didn't want to suspect her
This was the only time Kohacka 3D chess'd my feelings

At least it's better than muh despair destroyed the world.

Ghost Trick > AAI2 > AA3 > AA2 > DR2 > DRV3 > AA6 > AA > DGS > AAI > AA5 > AA4 > PLvsAA > DR > sticking my hand in a blender > UDG > DR3

You're retarded, then.

You think Brawl is more popular than Melee or Sm4sh because it sold the most? No.
AA is past its prime and not popular anymore. That's why V3 outsold AA6.

Which one had the better absolute madman? AA3 or DR2?

Would be 10/10 if AA2 was switched with AA5 and DR1 wasn't so low.

The only DR better than the worst AA games is DR2. Even that is overrated as fuck.

>Future trilogy and Edgeworth are better desu
Edgeworth second game arguably. Future trilogy is garbage compared to OT. The character designs, locations, setups, and trails were all done better in classic AA

>AA2 over AA

Dual Destinies was the worst AA game though.

DR2 is overrated as fuck. 1 is way better

>muh madman

neo-AA is shit in general.
People at this point are forcing themselves to like the new games because the franchise just doesn't know what to do anymore.

Other than AAI2, every AA game after AA3 has been mediocre or just "ok"
Even with that horrid ending, at least DR had the decency to end it because it became dragged on zombie shit like AA is now.

SoJ is a step in the right direction, I have high hopes for AA7. As long as it isn't secretly Athena's game that is. God, that would be awful.

>end it before*

Gonna need a citation on that.

Last time I checked AA6 sold 300k and DRV3 sold 130k.

>You think Brawl is more popular than Melee or Sm4sh because it sold the most?
Yes?
It might not be best received one but the most people played it.

>cozy atmosphere and music of the PL series, cranked up to eleven
>funny banter of the AA series, cranked up to eleven
It had some glaring flaws in there but this gets too much hate to be honest.

I really like the style, atmosphere, and quirky characters of Danganronpa. I also like how it tends to be more edgy. Also appreciate how they stick with the 2D style. Now that I think about it, it's not really fair to compare them. They're actually so different and you can like both equally for a varying number of reasons.

>Takami originally wanted to end the series after 3
>Crapcom wouldn't let him
>He wanted to make a game without Pheonix
>Crapcom wouldn't let him
>Finally gets to make a game without interference
>Crapcom doesn't localize it and the fan translation falls apart
I hate them so, so much.

I think they desperately need to change director.

>AA Investigations is about international ambassador
>AA Investigations 2 is about international president's double's murder
>Dual Destinies is about international spy
>Spirit of Justice you fucking leave San Frantokyo

It's lie he can't write a story without trying to up the ante somehow, meanwhile OG trilogy is about name in the mud medium family.

What I am saying is that enough with international shit.

He was in like two episodes, chill out. He also had the shit kicked out of him for literally no reason.

You mean AA4, it's even partly the reason 5 is bad. And it all comes down to Capcom forcing Phoenix in. AA should have been multiple trilogies with new characters each time.

Investigations and New Trilogy don't have the same director and aren't connected in any way.

the problem is that they are still trying to one-up the previous game and YEAH RISING UP THE STAKES "epic" bullshit.

Like, really. AA6 finale was taking down the mad ruler of a kingdom.
Shit is just getting out of hand, and I bet AA7 is just going to drop everything and be it's own self-contained thing again

Well that was just brainwashed Mikan, who only lied to you since the Despair Disease came and Hiyoko was like "Who the hell are you?"

>Yamazaki went on to become the director for Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Gyakuten Kenji 2, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice.
>He was also involved in the planning of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney with Keisuke Yamakawa.
aceattorney.wikia.com/wiki/Takeshi_Yamazaki

Guess the game Yamazaki was involved in that first introduced Borginia.

At least it tried to move the series in a new direction. DD goes full anime with its plot and characters and tries its best through its advertising and those shitty cutscenes to get the weeb audience. AA was at least a little subdued in style before DD fucked everything up. You could see the people in pre-DD AA being real and the ones in DD and afterwards appearing in some body's AA fanfiction.

I played V3 before watching the anime since I heard it was shit. Doesn't matter in the slightest. Play UDG before the anime tho.

>And it all comes down to Capcom forcing Phoenix in
People keep saying that but I feel like it wouldn't even be that dramatically different without him there to be honest. Half the cases in that game barely featured him in them for point of reference.

The game existing at all was the product of Capcom forcing Takumi & co, not just Phoenix being shoehorned into it.

Oh fuck. I guess you're right.

Furthermore Debeste has same uniform Themis Legal Academy students have. Hugh O'Connor wears it.

>Dhurke game never
Why'd he have to die?

Same as . Went 1->2->UDG->V3 and literally watching 3 right now.
To be fair, it's not that bad . I almost like it.

Oh my god. Do you think he'll actually be in AA7? I would pre-order that shit and a Switch right away

I doubt the dumb time travel shit would be in though. And it likely wouldn't have taken a shit on AA1-3 characters. Without any of this, we'd have a decent start to the Apollo games.

Unlikely as they can't bring Franziska and Gumshoe back. Let alone AAI OCs I thought for sure Lang would at least make cameo in 6 being interpol and shit

Why can't they bring them back?

Did anyone else absolutely suck at insights?

The same reason they kept calling Phoenix "that dude in blue" in AAI.

Better question.
Will I like DR if I've played AA before? Played everything up to Miles Edgeworth 1 on DS. Havent tried the 3DS ones.
Been considering, DR since I've had a Vita for awhile. Also, I think my gf is getting me the Zero Escape games on Vita since they come in a combo pack, they were on my Amazon list. Might try DR after
