do i really need a mechanical keyboard?
Do i really need a mechanical keyboard?
No.
You don't need a gaming mouse either.
I like mine.
You also don't need a job, quit it.
i have a mechanical keyboard and a gaming mouse and the only games on my steam account are cuphead, fez, undertale, and a hat in time
why am i like this
I don't regret getting mine one bit, but you don't NEED it.
i bought a cheap forty dollar one with brown keys, and it is much better than the dell keyboard that i was using for the past ten years. it actually feels like you're pushing down on something, and the keys are also slightly elevated so you can literally "get to the point" compared to my old one. it's also better for typing in general. i might be looking into getting a better one
but you also type
what do you like about it?
its the soy, my boy
Do you like haptic feedback when you type?
For me it's the fact that they don't wear. I've had this problem with membranes and rubber domes that some keys would start to wear and suddenly required an entirely different actuation force and just generally had a different feel. Mech switches are also much more durable.
they last forever, so its a good investment
$20 ching chong gateron boards are better than most big name memes
they have become that good at copying shit
Yes
No it's a luxury but they're still really nice to have. This is false though you do need a mouse with an accurate sensor and a comfortable shape if you play any fps'
unless you spill beer on it. i've ruined 3 or 4 that way (i am retarded though).
membrane keyboards can go straight in the dishwasher.
I spilled a whole bowl of ramen on mine and it came out fine.
Try topre they're more expensive though
No. In fact mechanical keys are deeper and require more pressure to activate which leads to slower type speeds and less responsive gaming. They only excel in terms of customizability and tactile feel.
Absolutely not. Most people buy them because of advertising, not because of preference. I tried a lot of different models and honestly there's not one variation of cherry switches that I liked. Best mechanical I still have is one with vintage white alps switches, literally found it in some cellar. But I still prefer the softer touch of membrane keyboards, using a dell sk-8115 for work and vidya. If you want to try mechanicals, stick to or buy used onces on ebay, check for non-gaming bullshit like a cherry g80-1800 for 15 bucks if you are lucky. DON'T fall for the maymays and buy brands like filco, some models have lag on some switches and the quality of the case is abysmal.
>some keys would start to wear and suddenly required an entirely different actuation force and just generally had a different feel
damn i'm having that exact problem with mine right now. might have to make the switch.
It's just the feeling of quality they have. It's fun using them, simple as that.
It's completely the opposite. I had to almost relearn how to type when I first got a cherry red board because of how light the switches needed to be pressed. They also actuate 2mm down while rubber dome needs to be bottomed out to make contact with the pcb
mechanical is not even selling point anymore on these things, people buy them because they have rainbow leds, edgy designs, and they fall hook line and sinker for youtube shills.
>check for non-gaming bullshit like a cherry g80-1800 for 15 bucks
And why would you look specifically for that one instead of taking literally any other mech also using cherry switches?
Its 4mm for a full press on a mechanical keyboard, 2.5mm for a membrane. Unless you're a Mario 64 speed runner half presses don't matter.
My g11 Logitech is fine
It's usually cheap, most models have linear (black) switches which are nice for gaming imo, and it's a bit smaller than standard size keyboards but still has a numblock. Also, it has 6 key rollover, that is necessary and enough, nkro is a meme. It's probably the best and cheapest way to try black switches.
Got a das 4 with mx browns like 6 years ago for 80e, still works perfect
I disagree with the mouse.
I'm a console pleb convert and mapping everything to a mouse so I don't need to tard around the keyboard looking for the right key helps a lot
Do we really need niggers?
post keyboards
No, but you really should buy one. I've had my cooler master quickfire rapid ten keyless for a little more than 3 years. It has cherry mx blues and works like the day I got it. You seriously won't regret it. Side note: Don't buy into the rgb lighting unless you really want it. It just adds cost and looks kind of tacky.
>poker + separate numpad
Why do people do this? Unless you have a really really small desk, it's an idiotic idea. Just buy a full 108 keyboard.
Its a HHKB not a pok3r. I do it because I need the deskspace as I have a CRT tv and CRT monitor on my desk
Only if you go Cherry Blue masterrace. If your entire workplace or apartment complex can't hear you clicking then there's no point.
HAHAHAHAHA cherry blue you fucking weapon. go for buckling springs if you want an actual clicky switch you fucking soyboy
I don't see how you save space unless you put the numpad somewhere else (which is the point of a separate numpad), instead of next to the keyboard (like your picture shows).
Yes when its not in use I put it off to the side which gives me more mouse room for when I play games
I wanna be as epic as you!
...
No but you need more soy for milkies
jesus christ thats greasy as fuck
My nigga
Mouse space for better arm posture
>30 years later and nothing has surpassed this
What went wrong?
Go full Razer and give a shit about poorfags.
got my first one a few months ago
things i noticed: 1. im now always completely sure my input went through sometimes id have to press keys twice to be sure 2. much better build quality
now the drawbacks: 1. they CHATTER !!! didnt even knew they had such a thing ! thats a major annoyance! ive been even considering going back to membrane 2. it is overtly overpriced
They're nice for rhythm games
...
Only if you like lewd mechanical keyboard typing noises.
>two A keys
Its actually a @ ' key
where's the number pad?
gayman ones come without it
Nah that's just a tkl one
>Excellent for gaming and typing, this MK Disco mechanical keyboard features tactile, clicky switches for tactile and audible feedback to improve typing speed and accuracy
>Excellent for gaming
>gaming
dont even know why i googled just look at this led shit and tell me otherwise
What? I'm saying that it's an 80% tenkeyless keyboard there are 100% ones with mech switches and even all that led shit if you're into that. They can also get even smaller like this 60%
and i am saying that if u see a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard that looks like a christmas tree then it is 100% gayman, thats where u find these features the most and there arent any doubts about it
or would u take this shit to work?
>mfw I don't even use the macro keys
this is the kinda gear you should have
playing vidya without using your thumbs to their full potential is for complete plebs
Full keyboards have more useless bells and whistles than the other ones by far
you dont even need a keyboard at all. just be urself bro
No, but it feels really nice to have one, wouldn't pay more than 70$ for one tho.
*Expensive
A simple ergonomic one for 15$ wouldn't hurt.
THE LEGEND
kill yourself
Here's my keyboard
can someone please explain the mechanical meme to me?
nah
THICKER
>looking at your keyboard
Are you literally technologically illiterate?
...
I use a black switch one, toughest to press all the way down, but your fingers never hurt no matter how much you type. Not the best for typing at first since there's no click that lets you know the press is registered.
You don't need one, they're nice though.
Oh hey that's the exact keyboard I have
Not for vidya.
console plebs man
not for gaming, but it's nice to have if you type a lot.
the reason is that it just feels nice to type on.
These keyboards are for dumbasses.
That's not grease, its regular wear taking off the shitty matte finish.
explain
>the only time I ever used macro keys was for weapon purchase binds in 1.6
>would use them on infinite money/dm servers, spamming the micros until the server crashed from spawning too many guns
That pic left out cherry mx greens :(.
It's not normal therefore it's bad.
Also, because its non-standard in size it costs more to make compared to full-sized keyboards due to the lower market/demand for it.
>caring what poorfags think
Their keyboards don't even glow why should we listen to them
Do you NEED it? No, hell no.
It's nice to have though.
How many mechanical keyboards does user own? I have 3__ and want to build my own board now.
What does Sup Forums think of using this as a replacement for keyboard for gaming?
All you need is food, water, warmth and oxygen
Honestly they're not great, unless they are heavily macro'd
user you don't need to hulk smash every key, try one with tactile feedback if you type a lot like browns or blues so you know when it actuates
Shouldn't there be six columns so your pinky and index both have extra inputs to reach?
Bought a Ducky One with MX Browns just the other week. Was sort of worried about how loud it'd be despite browns not being clicky, but it's quieter than my old rubber dome after I finally learned to type on it and stopped mashing the keys all the way to the bottom. It's really comfortable to type on desu.
I was heavily considering picking one up, even the 'mecha-membrane' Tartarus they've put up recently.
but user, if you dont look at the keyboard how do you know where the letter you need is?
...
I thought it was grease as well, but it's not slippery or oily at all. It's actually quite rough.
Will they update the mechanical version of this to the layout of the Tartarus v2? Also what is wheel for?
I don't know, I guess Razar wanted to make it less buttons?
What do you mean? Isn't it by default the same layout as a keyboard?
