Why aren't movie-based video games a thing anymore?

Why aren't movie-based video games a thing anymore?

they sucked

Beat me to it.

I liked this one. I even platinum'd it. Most people didn't like it. I get why, it was a lazily made game, but it wasn't outright terrible. Better than the first one at least.

Because like video game-based movies, maybe five or so good ones have been created in the history of our planet and people got wise to the fact that the idea produced nothing but shit.

Licensed games have mostly moved to mobile

Because they make them into mobile trash since it’s cheap.

Yes but they didn't have to suck.

ahem

A diamond in a mountain of shit.

Mobile gaming makes it easier to make a game, slap their IPs on it and rack in the money

There's one that came out this year. But yeah, back then every animated movie (monster house, ant bully, etc) had a movie tie in. Even live action movies like fucking Charlie's Angels had a game.

The only fun thing in that game is web swinging
The combat sucked
The voice acting was garbage
The graphics were bomb at the time but suck today
The bosses weren't good, except for that one Mysterio fight I guess
Swinging around after buying the upgrades was literally the only good part
Spider-Man 1 on PS2 (On Xbox really) was better by leaps and bounds.

The Mummy Demastered was this year

Tv shows too.

Movie games were already extremely rushed to launch at the same time of the movie.
With longer development times they can only have enough time to make games for movies that are planned years in advance (like Pixar)

Because they're absolute horseshit. Every single one of them

>Warner Bros releasing a Disney product

It was good too

Due to increased development costs to make games, executives don't want to waste money on what they see as nothing more than a glorified ad for the movie.

It's much easier to shit out a mobile game, so that's the route that's taken.

i always liked licensed games. that's why i liked the wii and ds so much. you get some bizarre ass shit like Mr bean and deal or no deal. licensed games are fun

>Why aren't movie-based video games a thing anymore?
LOL

Anyone who says movie games all suck never played this one. Shit was based

They still are.
>Mad Max the Game
>Rachet & Clank
>Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor/War

this
movie games are still common, just not on a platform Sup Forums doesn't bother with

Bump

Mad Max & Shadow of MorWar are games based on the worlds of licenses, not direct movie tie-in games. The closest they get is that the Mad Max game canonically takes place a few weeks before Fury Road or something.

Eh, fair enough.

Mobile. The same demographics that bought these games are putting just as much money, if not more money in in for games that cost way less to develop.

They get mobile game tie ins now instead

I like this one for the suits with stats and levels, but I prefer the first one more. I guess it's because the first one's story is more solid than the second, which suffered from cramming in too many big named baddies and trying to make a story out of it.

Because the sales were tanking. They still exist, but only for cheap ass mobile games.

basically console games are too expensive to make
most consumers got smarter (people who grew up with games are parents now)
general audiences moved to mobile and eat licensed stuff up
mobile is cheap to develop for

play it again, it's fucking garbage. Don't get me wrong swinging and climbing is god tier but literally everything else is terrible
