Childhood is siding with the NCR, adulthood is realizing the the Caesar's Legion is better

Childhood is siding with the NCR, adulthood is realizing the the Caesar's Legion is better.

No, adulthood is realizing Legion is woefully incomplete and having to resort to slapdash mods to extrapolate what content there could have been.

No the legion are the villains and have nothing to do quest-wise. It's more fun to kill them.

Soyboys detected

You mean house, right?

Childhood is picking side, adulthood is realizing each side has its pros and cons and that the choice is ultimately subjective with no side being better than another so you choose to go independent and become the king of the vegas strip and live a hedonistic lifestyle with your new army of robots

>Soyboy
Only cucks use this term

I can respect anybody who picks House, Legion, or Independent.
But if you pick NCR you're just a fucking idiot

>people thinking that legion is good
Why has this been so common in the last few years

THIS

>Wanna do NCR
>Proud of myself for somehow getting the NCR and Brotherhood to be buddies
>"Okay now go kill House"
>Quit playing

People think they're edgy I guess. Really, they're basically just another raider gang with more firepower, no different to the vipers or jackals etc. except they LARP as Romans.

>NCR aren't the good guys t-they tax people it's subjective!

Keep telling yourself that

Especially when the enclave is better

Adulthood is Mr. House or Yes Man.

>cucks
Only candyass newfags use this term

>the the Caesar's Legion

Yes Man is for the idiots with a power fantasy who think one mailman wanderer should run a whole region

At what stage in life do you realize the Enclave were the wasteland's best hope?

If they had more content I would've sided with them 100%

I'm personally a House main but i understand why they like the Legion. It's a strong militaristic disciplined society that is essentially made to survive in the wasteland and produce strong, powerful leadership based upon action not standing.
They're definitely in a better state than the NCR. Solid borders, safe lands, relative freedom to civilians. Hell Legion taxation isn't even bad.
Obviously they'd fall apart without caesar unless he produced a successful heir but as they currently stand they have a good run for a good future for the mojave.

NCR is corrupt and Caesar's legion is basically a raider gang that roleplays as the roman empire and uses their therms.
House is the last real hope for civilization developement.

Yes Man and House are the only interesting sides to pick.

Childhood is choosing the NCR.

Adolescence is to fight for the legion.

Adulthood is knowing that House is the best choice for the Mojave.

I was I think 12 when I played F2 so at that point and still to this day.
RIP Navarro

Why?

...

Explain

Childhood is siding with the NCR.

Adulthood is siding with the Legion.

Elderhood is realizing the Enclave was right all along.

>bankrupt
>unsafe
>corrupt
>resourceless
>owned by the rich
>massacres the poor
>massacres tribes they find
>horribly organized
>extremely bureaucratic
>militaristically reliant upon rangers who weren't even initially a part of them
>literally going to crash and burn without the dam
>can only win in situations they have massive superiorty in
They have some star characters in there but all in all they're the weakest but largest faction and without a victory at hoover dam they are guaranteed to fail.

The enclave literally did nothing wrong yet, (((Muties))) would have you believe otherwise

Caesar's Legion was so damn underdeveloped. It's even worse when 99% of people go cawadooty NCR which automatically makes the Legion the default """"evil"""" faction.

They should have let slaves fight in the arena for a chance to become a soldier and essentially be reborn to serve a greater purpose and maximize their value to the world. It is a great honor to be taught how to become fully self-sufficient and learn all the survivalist techniques and knowledge that the Legion has amassed over decades of conquering.

There is also no good reason why women waste their potential as being workers and childbearers when they could easily serve as Frumentarii.

The NCR never gave me a reason to go for them. They just seemed like generic good guys. Id rather go with local generic good guys because at least then the needs of the local community will be dealt with directly. With the NCR, you'd probably have to put in a request and then wait 3 months for a non-response and by that time I'd be a skeleton. The NCR could have at least spiced things up a bit by basing their country on a Constitution that recognized certain pre-existing individual rights.

The Caesars Legion faction were interesting in style only, I don't remember their motivations much except for some bizarre "must cleanse the morally weak" cult beliefs. That didn't make sense however because killing people for gambling is in itself immoral, so how could they justifying murdering people as an act of moral cleansing when they themselves were being immoral by doing so? I really cannot believe even in a post-apoc world people would just be okay with random murders for things like petty gambling, unless it was a religious based belief like Islam.

So I started playing for the first time October 2nd, but haven't played since Halloween. Now a few of my faction reputations aren't visible (Legion, NCR and Powder Gangers) and the dead hooker from Gomorrah is walking around asking me to have sex with her. I only have a few quests left, save for the DLC. Should I be worried?

Thanks. Great conversation, guys

Your welcome

Just remember that the Enclave was right son

Ave true to caesar

The House always wins, baby.

NCR and proud

How a return a raider gang? You guys realize all try legion shit in the game were front line war camps right?

Nice famine and economic depression bruv

>There is also no good reason why women waste their potential as being workers and childbearers when they could easily serve as Frumentarii.

theres no indication that this isn't already the case. Caesar hiring the female courier who then does things like aid the Omertas and derail the monorail also point to Caesar not being completely opposed to using Female agents

Women were meant for birthing and raisibg children.

Doing a casual playthrough. I decided to adjust the perk system to gain a perk every level, which will probably make certain things broken. Main reason why is because I'd like to take the shittier perks without feeling gimped.

Adulthood is realizing that these guys are all retarded and that my 10 INT 10 CHA character can do a better job than all of these fuckers.

>The NCR could have at least spiced things up a bit by basing their country on a Constitution that recognized certain pre-existing individual rights.

its implied during the interrogation at the airport that the NCR does have a charter of human rights because the NCR interrogator can't use physical force on the Caesar's Legion legate. she then uses a loophole by hiring an independant contractor under the table to do it instead. the point of the NCR is that they paint themselves as enlightened saviors but they regularly ignore all their own laws and they are entirely corrupt and imperialistic, seeking to annex new vegas not for some rightious cause or to save them from Caesars Legion, but to gain new tax cattle, use the region as a supplier of electricity and use the sharecropper farms to import more food to California. the Ultra Luxe quest also implies that private oligarchs in the NCR also want to move into New Vegas for the land investments and have lobbied the NCR to annex the region for this purpose.

>I don't remember their motivations much except for some bizarre "must cleanse the morally weak" cult beliefs.

thats just what the grunts believed. most of the CL grunts were likely illiterate and came from tribes. the point was that Caesar is like this mix of Col. Kurtz and Unabomber. he uses maximum violence because half measures will not produce a total Clauswitzian outcome and instead give rise to further acts of violence. He wants to erase modernity and easy comfort so that people have to strive to become better. he views things like democracy to be an illusion used by a small minority to enslave the majority and he views his dictatorship to be a means to an end. what he wants is a synthesis of the tribals nature with the more civilized aspects of the west that will not lead to another nuclear war.

>Download game
>It's a ugly as fuck (even for 2010 standards)
>Literally nothing but rocks and dirt everywhere
>Runs like shit on even good hardware
>Buggy glithcy mess

Inb4 "just mod it bro just spend hours altering the game to make it good bro!"

>first disliked Ulysses because was confused by his character and didn't like how the Lonesome Road DLC forced a backstory on your character
>eventually realized that wasn't the point; you can interpret Ulysses as just a guy that really couldn't accept shit just happens and created this epic mythos between two couriers and the BEAR AND BULL in his head and you can buy into it or tell him he's just insane
>you can easily interpret the courier not even being the one that delivered the package that blew up the Divide

It's weird, I think Lonesome Road kinda grew on me over time. Honest Hearts is still my favorites but I think Lonesome Road grew to my second favorite.

The game itself is good though

>Runs like shit on even good hardware
If NV runs like shit on your pc you don't have good hardware

This happened to me. I had to load up an earlier save. That was the only thing that fixed it.

>10 CHA
Why though?

they unironically only exist to expand and conquer. their lands are rife with raiders and starving citizens yet they push farther and farther east. bunch of power hungry ego-maniacs trying and failing to disguise their true intentions

>one mailman
user, your character is a literal demigod savant that can accomplish pretty much anything. I'd say they can rule just fine

Siding with either is for fags. Vegas is mine.

Caesar's motivations didn't click for me until that long conversation where he outright tells you he conceived the Legion such that it wouldn't survive post-Vegas, even if - especially even - it won the dam. The point was that it was a template for a different kind of civilization. Ideally, it would adopt the best parts of both cultures in victory.

Makes me think how Lanius would have carried on Caesar's intentions, if he would have. When you talk to him, it's clear he's not mindless but very intelligent. He gets the significance of the ideological conflict but I get the feeling he wouldn't be willing to let go of some aspects of the Legion that Caesar's synthesis would've removed.

To pass '[Lie]' speech checks, like any good politician.

Lmfao are there really players who said "I wanna help cops in my own fantasy video game" when they could cross the river and be pack hunting with their frat bros then later fucking their slave women

>Candy ass newfags
Only noobs use this term

To be fair, if you're going for a non-combat based courier that relies on companions, 10CHA gives a 50% damage from Nerve.

>the poor even being allowed in new vegas

look at this fuckwit

the thing that made caesar work is that up until you meet him all of the restrictions like no chems, no modern tech, ect seem extremely arbitrary until you realize it all serves the purpose of completely restructuring society when the legion becomes a regular country. Caesar was so dedicated to this that, even knowing that whatever was in the fort was something that would of given him the decicive edge in the war, he wanted to not use it and instead destroy it because he wanted to prevent the meme that war can be won without serious damage to yourself is something possible in his people, the exact mindset that led to the nuclear war

I don't think any choices beyond House or Yes Man are intelligent choices. NCR is delusional in creating their cheap facsimile of Old World America. They're mindlessly expanding without really doing much nation-building, and I see them dying a slow, bureaucratic death by a thousand cuts. Caesar's Legion, on the other hand, are little more than knockoff Mongols who united behind godlike Caesar. For all their faults, I'm willing to say that Caesar is a brilliant mind who is the glue holding the 87 tribes together. His death, and Lanius's succession, is going to end with the Legion tearing itself up into warbands because he lacks the vision of Caesar. Lanius is little more than a rabid dog to be loosed upon the enemies of the Legion; he lacks the long-term tactics that allowed the Legion to get as far as they did.

With that said, I do want to talk about the two choices I am fine with, House and Yes Man. To me, they represent the conflict between Order and Chaos. House is a genius and there's no reason to think that the Wasteland following his vision wouldn't thrive, but it comes at the cost of complete obedience. One of the ending slides even says something like, "The streets were brutal, orderly, efficient". If people are willing to sacrifice their rights and freedoms for economic prosperity, I won't fault them for it. On the other hand, siding with Yes Man for an independent Vegas is creating a situation where everyone has the ability to make it big. One of the ending slides for Independent Vegas even says something to the effect of, "Vegas was the only place where a person could be made or broken." I see Independent Vegas as something like the Wild West: there's definitely law, but as long as you aren't making trouble for other people you're free to do what you please.

If you've ever played the main Shin Megami Tensei series (not Persona), the games always have a conflict between YHVH, the Judeo-Christian God, and Lucifer, the devil. While other games would make the conflict, "God = Good, Lucifer = Bad", SMT does it differently. God is portrayed as a vain tyrant who isn't really concerned with humanity as living beings with their own agency. He will provide them with complete safety, if they unquestioningly worship him. Under God, the world is safe and humanity is essentially stripped of their free will; they are safe, but sterile. Lucifer, on the other hand, rejects that and says that in all the chaos humanity is free to either die from weakness of rise above it through strength. He says, "the world may be fucked, but don't you want the chance to fix it?"

That fundamental conflict, between sterile obedience and safety, or the fires of anarchy in which humanity with either crumble under the heat or emerge hardened and tempered, that conflict is what I see in House vs Yes Man. Both are valid choices, but it all depends on personal preference.

Except house fully says that he does not intend to be worshipped as a "machine-god messiah" nor does he intend on persecuting or punishing anyone for what they do in their free time, as long as they pay their taxes and dont cause any trouble. House is more the "wild-west individual freedom" libertarian type.

Yes-man/independant has no canonical political leaning, it's up to the player to decide how vegas will be run. Anywhere between tyranny and anarchy.

its a common meme. it goes as far back as Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus where Jupiter casts out Prometheus for giving Humans free will and the drive to improve themselves by crafting from the environment around them (technology, using fire which allows forging which allows gradually more use of the enviroment) which can be used for either better or worse. Jupiter sees this as a dangerous addition to his stagnant design where humans can't be creative and live according to his will but do so without possible harm to themselves.

Safe slavery vs Dangerous freedom
orderly stagnation vs chaotic potentiality

its probably one of the most important themes of our time.

to quote Jefferson: Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem.

NCR did nothing-NOTHING wrong. If you would unironically not side with them, you're a contrarian edgelord. NCR is organized and working to build a nation of law and order.

You think House is gonna give a fuck when the Khans start raiding Goodsprings? His priorities are on keeping the city and MAYBE the outer limits secure. Nothing else. And the delivery boy is useless and won't have access to a quarter of the minds, talent, and manpower in the NCR.

Legion is fun in a LARP sort of way but they won't last long when infighting, disease, and lack of organization destroy them from the inside let alone intermittent NCR assaults.

>Yes-man/independant has no canonical political leaning

its implied to be localism/voluntaryism

vegas itself largly falls under the combined culture of the kings and the Followers, individualist anarchism

the towns outside vegas basically stay the way they are which is largly free towns that don't even have any politicians, not even mayors (the only mayor we do see is killed off screen in Nipton) except for maybe a sheriff like primm

Childhood is thinking the democrats are patriotic. Adulthood is realizing all politicians are corrupted and need to hang except for Donald trump.

dont deal with the devil, he never made a single thing himself

the real difference between house and yesman, is that house knows a lot more than you and probably isn't going to kill you

yes man is just an obedient machine, and if there's some threat you don't know about, that threat is going to kill you, or endanger the region before you can stop it

At the end of the game you're a goddamn half-cyborg who knows everything about everyone and can solve any problem just by talking to people.

It's definitely possible. After Big MT you're pretty much immortal, too.

Get a load of Argayde Gaynon over here

Hey, caweat emporium, or whatever

I really like how Darnified UI makes the HUD smaller but I don't like the fonts, how do I change them back to the vanilla ones?

This is NCR propaganda.

NCR and independent are the only endings with potential.
House is great if you like stagnation and muh snowglobes and Legion is for edgelords

'stagnation' is this a joke

why would you want the region to develop? rational self-interest would dictate that it remains manageable to you, the only person who is qualified to rule alongside house

implicit in the house ending is that at some point the NCR and CR would be enslaved or destroyed, again for yours and house's personal benefit

are you one of these people who thinks, for no reason at all, that people weaker or stupider than you should be given power? I assure you no one with actual power believes that, not for long

>NCR did nothing-NOTHING wrong. If you would unironically not side with them, you're a contrarian edgelord.

the NCR are just an imperialistic group of raiders just like Caesars legion. they mock the legion for using slave soldiers but are just as happy to use conscription. they forcefully blockade and annex towns so they can steal from the towns folk and call it taxation. literally no different than a raider band demanding protection money. when a town or business gets in the way of a water or brahmin baron in california, that baron simply cries to his pals in the senate so he can use the massed centralized military funded by stolen money to drive off their competitors. the NCR is antithetical to human freedom to the point even Caesar is better on virtue of atleast being honest about his tyranny.

>You think House is gonna give a fuck when the Khans start raiding Goodsprings?

yes because Goodsprings is on the I-15 which means its on the supply line to New Vegas, if Goodsprings is occupied by raiders this threatens the NV economy which would result in quick military counterattack. House doesn't just use securitrons, he hires professional mercenaries to perform more human sensitive tasks (the game just had no reason to show this since no quests really required it but its stated as fact that human teams were used during the operation to acquire the chip). Vegas also has plenty of population in Freeside to recruit soldiers from.

>and won't have access to a quarter of the minds, talent, and manpower in the NCR.

the courier has access to Big MT which trumps anything OSI has to offer. Hildern himself shows how pathetic and corrupt they are. the Mojave has access to better technology far surpassing anything the NCR has, it has Big MT as a university structure, Helios 1 as well as Nuclear weapons stashed in the divide. former Enclave troops that can train more paramilitary, boomer artillery and airforce. NCR would be crushed

the factions in new vegas were retarded
still can't believe this game gets praised for its writing

It's usually praised for that because it was paired with Fallout 3 - which had absymal writing,

so people like new vegas because it wasn't fallout 3?
what an incredibly low bar people have

>House doesn't just use securitrons, he hires professional mercenaries to perform more human sensitive tasks (the game just had no reason to show this

It does in fact show this in a little quest called "The House always wins"

I said usually, slapnuts

so some people actually think this is good writing? how sad...

Is NV worth a replay? What mods do you guys recommend?

i meant use of larger scale military companies not just the player.

the Someguy Series mod has a plot point where you have to fight one of the companies house hired to screen your route before the games end, even though its non canon i thought their inclusion fleshed out the setting a bit

No its praised because its one of the few high quality role-playing games made after 2003 that actually lets the player properly role play.

I like the idea of fucking over both. I dont want there to be actual functioning empires in my post apocalyptic world, I want it to be anarchy, tribalism, and city states at best.

>retard charity worker who modeled his faction of uneducated and talentless morons after an ancient civilization that collapsed due to the mental feebleness caused by WIDESPREAD LEAD POISONING

Adulthood is realizing that you are the real degenerate in all of this.

>He didn't join Yes Man
Enjoy sucking some ones dick.

I wish they made a proper Legion-focused DLC. We really only got more snippets of information about them, would have a loved a new area set in legion territory. Let's be honest, Honest Hearts and Lonesome Road sucked.

>Let's be honest, Honest Hearts and Lonesome Road sucked.

That'd be dead money

>tfw unironically enjoyed Honest Hearts and never understood why people hate it so much

I didn't like honest hearts the first time I played it but then thought it was awesome the second time.

Joshua Graham is awesome and the environment is nice but I didn't give a shit about fate of the tribes.

I didn't really care about the tribes myself, but exploring the place was really nice, something comfy about it. And then there's Randall Clark

Yeah the environment was awesome especially when it rained.

I didn't really get Randall's little logs for the first couple, then it gripped me, a massive fucking urge to find them all, find out this dude's story. Honestly it was my favourite part of the DLC, great story, tragic, but great.

>Childhood is siding with the NCR, adulthood is realizing the the Caesar's Legion is better.
you need to be 18+ to post on this board

yeah, all 5 fucking minutes of Legion content
