This. OP, the games are shit, but they're shit for bad writing and bad gameplay, the 'sjw' shit is barely present and only shows up with a couple characters at most.
i enjoyed it. but i found leveling to be too slow.
Basically acquiring new powers and shit was way too padded out. Filling it with some base building and exploration only does so much.

Unironically explain to me how you enjoyed the gameplay and fighting especially. I gave it an honest effort, but the queuing up of actions and the way you get shitstomped by every single enemy, the lack of impact behind spells and abilities, NPCs ignoring tanks and frontliners to beeline for your squishies, etc. I have never refunded a game harder than I did after a couple hours and a couple fights.

What difficulty? I played on Hard and had no trouble. Spells were powerful (although CC is more effective than straight up damage, I found) and combat was intense but not too hard if you go slow mode and pause to queue actions up.

In fairness, the hardest one. However I tried on easier, and found the same issues present, just not as infuriating because when an enemy beelines for your mage through your entire team on normal, you can shoot him down with minimal effort whereas on hardest he 3-shots your mage and fucks off.
I'm willing to even say it is possible it got better later, but when enemies are ignoring my tank with an agro-generating aura to focus my flanks, all my characters I just got and can't customize or upgrade are dying in 3 hits, and I have to fight 6v4 in my third fight of the game, I'm done.

Codexers like the game, though. Their score of it is 8/10. Four out of the five reviews they made about it are positive. There are plenty of backers for Deadfire over there.

I wouldn't really consider that admitting to a error or apologizing, more gave a potential explanation as to why they listened. Obsidian was in a bad spot then, they properly couldn't afford any bad press for the game or as said figured there would be no point in arguing with them.
Rangers are pretty decent with guns, although, despite their namesake, they may not be the best with them. A cipher, for example, might be a better choice. Or maybe even a rogue. Rangers are more if you want an animal with you helping you out.
From what i understand chanters are reallly good with guns but that mostly because they're buff bots that stand back all fight.
I don't see why it couldn't work. I know blunderbusses work great with ciphers though, so keep that in mind when you find the cipher party member, if you can put up with her that is.
