the argument is Sniper can do everything Spy can. Yes Demo can take out a nest, but then you're talking about two different classes, where the utility for instantkills AND taking on buildings are both in Spy's kit.

You can't possibly imagine ow mad I am about sniper. Every time I get hit by 150+ damage hitscan from across the map, I'm fucking livid. And you know, I can't even blame sniper players because they're just using a tool in the game. I'm just baffled that some designer decided to include a fucking sniper class in the first place. It serves no purpose besides bringing the server's overall fun level down for everyone.

You're kind of assuming the Spy will always reliably be able to perform his intended role. The enemies are going to be keenly aware the moment you do anything, someone might even switch to Pyro, the enemy is going to be on alert for basically the rest of the match. Just that severely limits your options and viability of a Spy at any given time.
Conversely the Sniper suffers none of these problems, is a safe distance away and only really countered by another Sniper. And it's almost guaranteed someone will be playing a Solider or Demo, both of which are better at safely disabling sentry nests.
Blame yourself for playing on valve pubs where nobody knows how to keep a sightline clear.

That being said if one side of the field is savvy to my presence, what's stopping me from going somewhere else? Front lines are busy? Go to their base- I'm sure taking out the enemy teleporter would help tremendously

They're bugged right now and deal damage in an unintended way. Their hitboxes are also huge or something, you can flail around and everything will hit.

What, did they bug the damage in a recent patch? When the pyro update launched it seemed fine. The only people I saw complaining were the same people who tried fighting pyros in close quarters and then found it surprising they lost like they should

I feel like shit when I play as Spy. Half the players I backstab are lagging like hell and I don't feel like I earned the kill.
Personally I think frontline Engineer is the most satisfying class in TF2. Turtle Engineer is boring as hell, but when you constantly have to deal with people trying to blow up your shit it's a great feeling to hold the line and bring your teammates to the front so you never get overran.

At this point I don't think it's a bug, it's unironically a feature.
Flame particles now calculate damage according to how long a player's hitbox is in contact with at least one flame particle in contrast to the old way of according to the quantity of flame particles that struck the hitbox.
I imagine this was done in order to make the flamethrower's damage more consistent, but without adjusting the firing speed nor the particle velocity to keep the dps in line, it works too well and pyro can now flail wildly via scripts and deal maximum damage to entire groups.
They aren't supposed to work quite like this.
