Why would you instantly ignore all the unique gameplay from other races, story, skills, ect when humans are usually just the most averagely balanced races in the game?

This is true honestly, that's how I remember a lot of korean mmos being back when that was the only real option to not pay $15 a month for an mmo. It all came down to where you wanted to start and what you wanted your character to look like.

You might have a foot to stand on in other settings, but humans in Tyria are closer to elf archetypes than traditional fantasy humans, and them and Charr are the only races with any actually developed lore.

If I remember correctly, the humans are aliens from another dimension who invaded Tyria and claimed most of it for themselves. Too bad their culture ended up being about as generic as any medieval fantasy civilization over the course of GW2.

One of the things that made them really interesting is that unlike other proxy-euro human races, Tyrian humans have a legitimate claim to conquering the world since they're literally the favoured children of tangible gods. They aren't the middle race between other cultures, by default they're off on an extreme and have a clear cut racial identity that spills into every culture.

Because no mmo race feels truly alien or interesting, mostly they are just humans with different skin.

Sci games suffer from this a lot, you have truly cool looking aliens with weird bodies, but the only ones you can play with it are humanoid ones.

I rather just play a human character instead of deluding myself that the other races are anything but tall humans, short humans, furry humans, skeletal thin humans and so on.

Five fucking thousands of templates they could use just from nature itself, some insects would make great races with unique gameplay and lore, but everything is humanoid shit.

The reason why that is is because of keyfarmers, people who roll a human guardian once a week to plow through the level 10 personal story quests to get a lootbox key for free, delete the character and repeat next week. it's a decent way to rack up cash shop skins over time.

Humans rule. Dorfs are for drinking buddies, and elves are for raep. Also cat girls.

I unironically do this from time to time in tabletop RPG because nobody ever wants to roll a human.

Kind of a shame with this game for me. Bought it beginning of august this year and played it for nearly 500 hours til beginning of october but then I just lost interest in it. The new expansion was a letdown for me.

Humans have great lore in GW, they're literally the aliens of Tyria and have all the god's lore revolving around them too.

To be fair the easiest and in most cases the only way to stand out is to make your character deliberately normal and/or ugly. Not in the "hehe, look at me, I have purple afro hair and green skin, along with warped facial features, ain't I wacky", there are plenty of those too, however most of the players prefer their character to be if not 10/10 then 8 or 9 out 10 for certain, even presets account for that. It actually takes some conscious choices to make your character look 5/10 or below.
