This is objectively the best answer. While FFXIV isn't difficult to catch up by any means, it is a very tedious and grind-heavy game, and ultimately not a good one at that.

No. The game is specifically designed such that you can be caught up within a single patch cycle.

No. Aforementioned design also means that only the most current content is worth running, and every piece of content that isn't current is completely trivial. As for worthwhile content, you have a selection of 3 dungeons to choose from, once a day, for the next four and a half months; an easy piece of shit 24-man raid, a less-easy 8-man raid for gear and a hard 8-man raid for bragging rights.

FFXIV actually had potential in ARR and Heavensward. Hell, it had potential in 1.X. Stormblood is just shit though. End of ARR and Heavensward was the beginning of the downfall. I would like to say it was only Heavensward but they introduced the cash shop at the end of ARR. Stormblood just went full force with shitting up the game though and now it's in a state where it's no longer salvageable.

I'd really rather not see even more jobs ruined by the transition from XI to XIV, not even GEO.

As someone who sank over 3k hours into it, I would have to say that it isn't worth your time. I was naive enough to think that after it made some waves and had a large enough user base that we might see larger and deeper changes to the overall formula. Playing XIV for so long only made me realize how great games like XI, SWG, and DAoC truly were and how much I wish I could go back to their heydays.

Would never work with XIV's structure, Yoshida's too concerned about balance and accessibility.

We'll probably get BLU eventually, but as a DPS with pre-determined skills you'll unlock via story progression with no actual freedom. Much as it would suck, it's preferable to getting into a roulette with a player that doesn't have essential skills acquired.

Heavensward was shit compared to ARR and 1.X. Stormblood is like Heavensward but with only the shitty parts and none of the good parts.

MNK stayed the same, DRG, BRD, NIN, BLM, SMN now has a higher ceiling.

PLD is still boring but it's no longer a spam 123 class, Warrior became more of a glorified DPS class.
WHM got a bunch of insta-casts, and will continue this trend until the game dies.
SCH got more usage out of its aetherflow mechanic, but the fairy has been nerfed to compensate.

New classes added
RDM, very easy to play and master.
SAM, very easy to play but a bit harder to master thanks to certain nuances that people will never figure out for themselves.
MCH is probably the hardest class still to master, but between wildfires its bland.

DRK is the fastest tank with the most resource management, very fun to play but if you want to DPS with it, for some odd reason it's mediocre in comparison to other tanks.

Astro is a semi whm/sch, choose your poison that can buff the party through cards.

So quite a lot, ceiling has raised on almost all classes but the floor has lowered significantly.
