Can someone explain to me why the fuck was this funded at all? I can't imagine for the life of me why someone would want this at all, and it actually fucking flopped when it released. How did it get 8 million+ in funding then? Do people just like wasting money on random shit?

devs lied
It was funded by people who could have bought food
It was a good concept that was horribly implemented and this too
I'm pretty sure they promised games.
Kickstarter was fresh, so people were more likely to fund retarded shit
They still do it, but at least they don't throw millions of shekels at them anymore
>good concept
As in shitty Android games that actually work better in your phone?
Two words; Potato Salad.
Potato salad wasn't people wasting money in a dead end project, it was memey but they got what they were promised
>Razer bought Ouya
Why?
Ironically the Chinese have done this. But better.
Nvidia also did this. But better. Amazon also.
But the Ouya did prove one thing. That a niche market for an android box + controller does exist.
it's probably good as an emulation device but that's about it desu. The devs hyped it up to be so much more amazing than what they released it's literally the same as those chink android tv boxes you can ghet for $20
Infact you could also argue that Nvidia actually made a massive success of the back of Ouya's massive failure, since the development process involved in making their Shield line of products lead them into partnering with Nintendo to make the Nintendo Switch, which has had an excellent launch.
the kickstarter happend around peak mobile gaming hype so people funded the shit out of it when they found out it was an android based console.
plus, they had the whole "unlimited" games thing because it was all opened sourced and any developer can put games on it.
which leads to one of the major reasons why it failed, no developer really gave a shit, even indie developers. so there were no actual games, only shitty tech demos from people who were trying to learn how to make games using android software.
only reason why that did so well was because it was shitty lolsorandumXDDD kickstarter project and it was basically the first of its kind.
What's wrong with that?
Dude managed to scam Reddit and little kids out of millions of dollars.
Not his fault people were retarded.
Funny thing is though. Despite it being retarded he did fully deliver.
He actually proved he could manage a project well.
And that I think is funnier. That this guy doing a gag venture is better than many serious indie developers who have been in industry a long time.
How was it a scam?
Idiots with Money
It was back before people figured out that mobile gaming is trash.
next gen wasn't announced, they were console starved and people wanted something new, anything
Kinda explains the success of the Switch as well.
