Why is the sewer level so shit?

Sewers tend to have lots of shit in them.

Ran out of development time and phoned it in. You can really feel it in the second half where you're forced into combat and social skills become useless.

Never understood the hate for the sewers.

The sewer levels is the worst of the worst though. Some of the levels after it are combat heavy but none are a more than an hour long like the sewers.

Because it's a long, boring slog that most people, on their first playthrough, were unprepared for since there had always been an option that you could at least not have to poke a gun at.

It's not that long and you don't really have to kill everything.
It doesn't have to be long, tedious and combat heavy unless you let it.

What makes VTMB good is the atmosphere and the writing and that is something the sewer lacks.

It is at least an hour long, you can avoid combat with stealth or just running past enemies but you can't avoid the unintuitive "puzzles". I am glad the plus patch just lets you skip it

I'm playing through the plus patch right now. How do you skip the sewers?

There is a path off one of the first bits of the sewers where there is a computer, hack it, and you unlock a hatch you can go through to skip a lot of it

You can follow Tung to get to the cemetery entrance

This isn't so sexy when I read it in my Sup Forums voice.

It's the top of the ok tier mate so it is up there. It is just the lack of any options for a character with dialoguey skills that stopped it being one of the best.

Ocean House Hotel is overrated.

From a Camarilla perspective sure, but he's an absolute ass to the character. Sends you on suicide missions to try and get rid of you while saving face. Great perspective on the Ventrue though.

Sewers are only a problem if you're that guy who spent all of his points on social stuff. The rifle you get from Romero can 1shot the geodudes.

It's cool for one run but it kills replayability since your character build has no effect on anything.

Just imagine how good this game could have been if they had another year working on it. If the latter part of the game was as good as the earlier places. The difference in quality is very noticeable. The side quests go from being as good and varied as the main quest to being fetch quests and the main quests as well turn into linear dungeon crawls with little room for different play styles.

So a remake where they actually finish making the game?

I actually just finished the game earlier this week. All in all it I acknowledged that it wasn't anything too impressive but for some reason I still ended having an itch to make a new character/build.

What's its secret?

Play it again as a Malkavian, with plus patch if you played vanilla on your first go.

Honestly, I don't know why I like it so much. I think I really like the dialogue. Every time I play it I have all of these aspirations to replay it as all of these different clans, then I reach the infamous sewer section and lose all motivation.

The badness of the sewer section is really exaggerated.

I'm at Chinatown but I've just...gotten bored of it. I was having fun, and its atmosphere is unforgettable, but I just can't be arsed to move at this shitty slow walkspeed while playing shit stealth levels with optional shit gunplay.

I use disciplines all the time and, although I bunnyhop out of boredom, I don't think it actually makes you faster.

Went Malk btw, so my disciplines are definitely useful, but...it doesn't make up for it.

I'll probably get back to it, but I stopped playing months ago.

Bunnyhopping does work you just need to figure it out. Malk has one of the best disciplines for stealth as well as the best discipline for making guns better.

Really? To be honest with you, towards the end I noclipped when backtracking, but even then I couldn't stomach it.

This game was kind to me.

I'm personally just endlessly amused at the idea of a social toredor who gets into a sticky situation then ultimately decides on punching the shit out of people.
I've been meaning to do a second playthrough as Malkavian at one point, using rifles or something.
