Is it really that bad? I've never touched the Dawn of War series but plan on starting at the first. From then I'll probably get this or Dark Crusade based on this threads replies. People always either claim that Soulstorm is the greatest DoW game or its the worst without counting DoW III .
Dawn of War
SS is the best
Other than pile of shit flyers its an alright expansion. Too bad DoW3 is garbage so I'll never see a Marauder Destroyer.
I miss the Nuns with Guns/Bolter Bitches.
youtube.com
The trailer for DoW III was so promising, shame it didn't live up to expectations
It's really not that good, especially the campaign
>ywn fall in love with a Sister of Battle and kill heretics together
I never understood the hate. Sure the campaign wasn't the best, but it's just there for you to fuck about and learn the races.
There's just no reason not to buy the DoW1 shit in a bundle when it goes on sale if nothing else than to just get all the races for multiplayer.
Very lazy for what's mostly a touch up on DC's singleplayer and multiplayer. Sure, it's the most balanced, but the numbers could've been fixed in the previous installment if Relic actually cared about it. Flyers are hit or miss, mostly miss since they often clash with other units that offer the same purposes (why would I get Marauders if I can get Basilisks?).
The two new races are alright, though they really put no effort on Sisters. Their textures and models have regressed horribly from WA and DC, and you can see the laziness even in the small details like buildings. They share on-click sounds with SM ones and the construction pattern is the exact same as the IG.
Last autistic rant aside, it's alright if you wanna do MP. Play DC if you want a decent singleplayer experience.
not to mention, for some reason SS runs like ass compared to all previous DoW games, which i don't really get why
DoW 1 for the most part was great, sequels however were garbage
No it doesn't
Not him, but it does. The toaster I still have these games on struggles with SS when things get chaotic. It didn't do that in the previous games.
WHAT A FAG
>its this chart again
It has the best multiplayer which is the only thing that matters. It gets hate here because only your average Sup Forumsermin is retarded enough to buy RTS to play a campaign
Soulstorm is the go to DoW game, its the only game that still has an active online community.
if you play it with today's rig it's not noticeable, but back then when all that jazz was new, i played all DoW games on the same computer and they all ran fine until i booted up SS,
shit was awfully slow, everything was set to the lowest and even like this i had 20 framerate average
This comic is pretty much modern version of ragefaces
Also hating on all DoW 2 games wont help you fit in so dont bother
>Baiting a Dawn of War thread
Who would do such a thing?
This is flat out wrong, SS was a huge improvment to DC especially in MP, fliers are a pretty good addition and complete the rock/paper/scissors melee/range/flying of RTS games
>(why would I get Marauders if I can get Basilisks?)
Because Basilisks are artillery used primarily for disruption while marauders are AoE damage that is effective vs both infantry and buildings
>they really put no effort on Sisters.
This is false they clearly put a lot of effort into sisters they play very different from any other race and have their own 3rd recourse to manage
>Their textures and models have regressed horribly from WA and DC
False
>They share on-click sounds with SM ones
No they dont
>and the construction pattern is the exact same as the IG.
No it isnt
>Multiplayer is the only thing that matters
(you)
Its not bait though he's right, do you even play DoW?
>I enjoy playing against a dumb souless machine
Its okay, not everyone has double digit IQ to handle real opponents
DoW1: Vanilla
Classic squad based RTS game utilizing cover with a heavy focus on map control, agression and micromanagment. A solid game, had some balance problems and hickups along the way but most of it got ironed out throught the games lifespan.
Winter Assault
Released in a very poor rushed out state, game was clearly unfinished, was extremly buggy with units shooting in melee and various other game breaking glitches. Not bad when Relic got round to fixing it though.
Dark Crusade
HORRIBLE game, some of the worst balance in any RTS game to date, random changes for no rhyme or reason, extremly buggy, was absolutley hated by the community, fire on the move bug crippled the game and online was plagued with connection problems that would drop people from games mid match and rampant hacking. Relic promised a patch was coming but it never happened.
Soulstorm
Fixed many of the problems with DC, saved the DoW1 community which was on its deathbed after the mess that was DC, had a few minor problems on launch but not as bad as WA or DC and they were patched out with updates, best balance out of all the DoW games. Still has an active community that plays the game regularly online stood the test of time, great game.
>I hate campaigns and single player modes
What's it like being too much of a retard to appreciate that games should consist of more than a skirmish mode against other people? You're only limiting your own enjoyment by stubbornly ignoring a large part of a game's content
>Also hating on all DoW 2 games wont help you fit in so dont bother
Too bad DoW2 was a massive pile of SHIT that even relic abandoned.
t. casual
300 hours in Dawn of War: Gold (Vanilla + WA)
400ish hours in Dark Crusade
150 to 200 in Soulstorm
and 500 across the Dawn of War 2 games
You can argue that DoW 2 was a misstep but it was still a fun RTS game with plenty of content, faction differentiation and the capacity for tense multiplayer matches. Last Stand was also a fun throwaway game mode to play with friends, plus the modding community for DoW 2 is solid. I don't get how anyone can HATE those games, nor can I understand why someone would think WA and DC are shit whilst praising SS to the high heavens. SS is DC with two new factions, some balance fixes and """flying""" hover units. It's the better package overall but that doesn't make the other guys garbage.
The fact you dont understand why WA and DC were so hated just shows how absolutely little you know about DoW in general.
Get Soulstorm and then you can play DoW Pro. Story wise the campaign is weak but it's hell a lot more balanced than Dark Crusade. At least you can weaken areas in SS while in DC it's impossible to attack a 10 defense area where the AI has multiple bases pumping out high tier shit. It's one of those games where there's a huge jump between normal and hard.
>Dark Crusade had problems first of all Dark Crusade saw the implementation of what was, without a doubt, one of the worst "fixes" to a problem in gaming history. Having decided that combat was "too lethal" and that shooty units shouldn't be able to chase down and kill fleeing units, Relic introduced a flat change to the fire-on-the-move accuracy of every single unit: 15%. In one stroke, this "Fix" caused dozens of problems. No longer did the likes of Dreadnoughts ever see a weapon upgrade (because doing so would give it a functionally-useless weapon that would never hit as it moved towards close-combat and hindered its melee power to boot), and the weapon immediately made rapid-firing weapons dozens of times better than those that fired slowly, since it was much more likely that they could hit with a few shots than their counterparts. Vehicles and personnel intended to fire on the move (such as Terminators) became functionally useless, whilst the Eldar Fleet of Foot ability became tantamount to godmode (initially it reduced accuracy when activated, but now with the flat 15% fire accuracy there was no reason not to use it when moving units. Also the Eldar Harlequin could fire a 10000+damage attack that would kill one unit in a squad, but due to how it was coded, could target and instagib a commander unit that was attached to said squad.
Are you seriously defending pic related's texture work? What the fuck is wrong with that bolter? Look at any Necron, Tau or IG model and see how the textures are less grainy and blurred.
Just saying "No it isn't, or false" doesn't make you right. You want facts?
Here's some
youtu.be
>Building's construction pattern is the same as the IG, only with different colour scheme and heraldry.
i.ytimg.com
>the sound of the Ecclesiarchal Chapel is the same as the SM Fortress, and the respective buildings are also shared.
youtu.be
Want to know even more things they didn't care about? Leaders sound the same as DC, despite being different characters, they didn't even give them unique lines when clicked on - they only bothered for the campaign, what little was voiced anyways since they took away the banter between factions.
It's the more balanced and more played game, but can you stop sucking its cock like it's the best thing ever? I'm sad for Iron Lore, but GW forced them to push out this thing half-baked.
>You obviously haven't played it
>Yes I have
>Well you're obviously a retard who doesn't understand it
Mm hm. Maybe you could explain how literally every DoW game except SS is total garbage if that's your red hot opinion?
t. someone who never played multiplayer
>ass pull some numbers
>doesn't even know basics of the game
>unaware of crippling bugs that ruined the games
>unaware of the community of these games
>unaware of crippling bugs that ruined the games
Funny you're saying that since SS was broken for almost a year before being patched. The community itself had to push out a temporary patch to stagnate the situation.
>Look at any Necron, Tau or IG model and see how the textures are less grainy and blurred
No they fucking dont
>post a screenshot and a video
>it literally proves your own argument wrong
Iv seen you samefagging with these exact videos before, good to know its just 1 person doing this shit
SS was fixed
DC was never fixed and remains an unplayable broken mess after 11 years
Try again
now i feel like picking it up again
How would you want me to verify my playtime in those games you retard?
>Doesn't even know basics
And you're complaining I'm pulling things from my ass?
>unaware of the crippling nerf to ranged accuracy
Pretty sure I would've been aware of that while playing DC online dumbass. I fail to see how it renders the entire game to be a piece of shit though, considering that it nerfed dozens of units across all factions simultaneously. I'm still pissed at Eldar players to this day but it didn't ruin the game and made beating their knife-eared asses all the more enjoyable.
>unaware of the community
Yeah I didn't browse the official forums because I mainly played against randoms from the server lobbies or with my friends. I don't really care what the community thinks outside of what the modding community puts out
REMINDER THAT THE GUY SHITTING ON SS AND SUCKING DC's DICK IS 1 PERSON WHO DOES THIS IN EVERY DOW THREAD FOR THE (you)'s
REMINDER THAT YOU CAN SAMEFAG THE SHIT OUT OF AN ANONYMOUS IMAGE BOARD BUT YOU CANNOT SAMEFAG STEAMS USER BASE
REMINDER NOT TO REPLY THE THE DC SAMEFAG
Oh. You're just riling people up. I don't think you lack eyes or ears, and you're just denying things without look at the proof ad nauseam.
Why did I even bother writing this stuff?
I just wanted a DoW1-like campaign for the imperial guard.
Why do devs assume people only care about multiplayer? This isnt CoD.
Retribution is the closest you'll get ironically, especially with DoW 3 being such a shitshow
I mean jesus christ it has had 18 players today. Even Winter Assault is doing better
This thread is pretty much the only place where ive seen people defending SS and saying its better than DC.
Im gonna trust you guys and get it on the next steam sale.
Is Winter Assault worth getting for the campaign? And what about DoW 2? Which one of its 500 dlcs are worth getting?
Which DoW games (if any) do you have user?
The first one and Dark Crusade.
Im one of the 5 idiots in the world who plays rts for the campaigns
WA is good if you plan on playing DC's campaign, it's somewhat a sequel to it given that a few characters return from it.
DoW 2 is probably the best "Space Marine" experience we're gonna get for a while, few units - more focus on micro. It also continues and ends the Blood Ravens' story which encompasses DoW 1, DC, SS 2 Chaos Rising and Retribution for the grand finale. Oh, there's also 3. But don't play 3.
>DoW2 500 DLCs
There are expansions, MP cosmetics, last stand wargear, and Retribution campaign packs
DoW2 is more CoH than DoW1, so you're experience might vary. Community has died down, so you probably won't get much MP out of it
Try DoW2 vanilla, and, if you like it, get CR and Retribution. If you try the Last Stand game mode, get Tau commander if you have fun with that, and maybe the wargear if you play those commanders
Otherwise, the campaign dlc items are not worth money because it's just SP content. Cosmetics are neat for your units in MP, but half the fun of leveling up is seeing your units change over time
If you are you play with mods, just go for Elite. It's the most active and has good features and balance
A lot of people play RTS for the single player 2bh, even if I'm not one of them. I'd personally recommend pretty much every DoW game (except 3 obviously) because despite SS being the most complete package you can still easily get a lot of fun out of the rest of the games.
WA and SS will both be $2.50 in the Winter sale, so you should just get both imho. WA will give you a good dozen hours with it's campaign (especially if you play both factions) and has a focus on the Imperial Guard who are my personal favourite. Then you've got SS which is DC with some much needed balance fixes, a larger campaign map and an additional two factions.
Dawn of War 2, Chaos Rising and Retribution are also still fun but play differently. The game has more of a RTT feel because cover is important, Commanders are more powerful and can get wargear and your total army size is smaller. Depending on your budget I'd suggest getting Vanilla for the campaign mode and access to MP, with CR and Retri serving as expansion packs with more SP content and MP factions. The DLC isn't really worth it though, maybe get the Tau Commander for Last Stand mode if you enjoy it and possibly the faction skin packs if you want to play as the regiment/chapter/legion being depicted. Most of the DLC is shit
relic supported it for fucking ages you aspie shitcunt
DoW1 is actually really good.
DoW2 is the frist one i played ,done hate me, it was my RTS of the year 2009 over Starcraft 2, coming from an ex-professional broodwar player. Pretty amazing considering it's an RTT instead of an RTS. But yeah.
>considering it's an RTT instead of an RTS
No it isn't, its just a dumbed down shitty RTS
As ever, form your own opinion and play in release order.
The bombastic voice action is half the fun, and is best experienced single player.
I was so pumped to have Eldar finally look like a ancient threat rather than be in plastic body suits. That bone armor was hype as shit. But alas....
>best experienced single player
This is bait
The voice acting is best experienced single player, yes. That's where most of it is.I don't know why I wrote voice action
>single player
Ignore this casual faggot
>not playing single player
I mean, its there to be played.
Please kill yourself
Nah. I enjoy the voice acting and will benefit from all the effort that went into it for the single player mode.
>single player
0/10
Please, keep going.
This user gets it
All of the games are good.
SS is my least favourite expansion out of the whole series (minus DOW 3, obviously) because it's the only one that doesn't do anything new. It doesn't introduce anything to the series, and the campaign is a dull rehash of DC with 2 more races attached.
The best reason to have SS is for the mods
This is bait
...
Should the Necrons DLC happen, who will the hero units be?
And what capability would they have?
Would it include a campaign?
>tfw you will never be as satisfied with your life as a Space Marine who's about to die for the Emperor
Look at that guy's face. Maximum contentment.
I don't even play DoW, but that's a damn good trailer.
I would kill to live as a Space Marine, knowing that you are part of something bigger, and being willing to sacrifice yourself for that is all the glory I've ever wanted.
Take this as you will but my favourite Chapter is the White Scars, I just wish Game Workshop remembered them even in the slightest.
Are any of the W40k books worth reading?
holy shit why is soulstorm so popular?
There are so fucking many of them, but yes, for the most part if you really enjoy W40K lore then they are worth it.
And that image is just one series too, I think there is something like 400 WH40K books around, correct me if I'm wrong.
Are they all about Space Marines?
Do they have anything about the Imperial Guard or any other faction?
That series specifically focuses on the Space Marines and their Primarchs, but there are probably books out there based upon the Imperial Guard, Tau Empire, Chaos and others.
Take "Shadowsun" for instance, this follows a Tau Empire based character set and focuses on them.
Multiplayer Mods. But the twat posting it is a autistic moron who wasted years trying to change the fact everybody hated SS when it came out.
Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain are IG related.
Who the fuck plays RTS with a controller?!
>Vanilla singleplayer as an introduction
>Winter Assault singleplayer for mission variety
>DC singleplayer for stronghold missions and hero bantz
>SS for multiplayer and mods
>recommending xenos
U Mad, Gue'la?
>has been posting this in every single DoW thread for literally years
How pathetic does your life have to be?
Sure and nips call any RPG with positioning a strategy.
Here, have this.
