Is it the best controller ever created?
Is it the best controller ever created?
It has a learning curve and that's the kiss of death nowadays.
got it from autumn sale love it.
Thought it'd be shit for racan but works great for dirt rally. It's just neat really. If they only made it work without steam overlay
honestly not that bad, I slapped in the usb changed the friction for the trackball
and it just werks
>AA batteries
>2017
Hahahahahaha
I thought that was weird as fuck as well when I opened it up but I've been using it daily since I got it and I forget about the AA
Yes, joysticks (or at least the right joystick) feel clunky and imprecise after getting used to using the trackpad. Only downside are the horrible bumper buttons, they're too big and stick out way too far.
I'd rather swap out AA batteries every few months than have to plug in my controller to charge it every few hours.
>steam shill brigade
or just keep a usb cable permanently connected
agree, though I believe the rpoblem is they are hard to push in considering you are supposed to hold it relaxed like.
ok autismo. I used ds4 before steam controller, I can't imagine what kind of super autistic neet retard you'd have to be to get upset over having to charge a controller once every few days
>only two controllers that are good to use on pc: ds4 and steam
>only one of them is actually designed for pc use
>people talk about it
>muh steam shills
lmao
you can probs mod in a phone battery
I wouldn't if my ds4 could last a few days, instead it needs to be charged after 3-4 hours of use
It would be if it wasn't uncomfortable as fuck. I love the thing, but why they chose to flare the sides up I'll never understand. It literally pushes your thumbs up too high. I hate having to constantly slide my hands back down.
>ds4
>good
I play 1-2 hours a day maybe
if its on pc its on cable anyway
So far I've completed RE4, all three dark souls, and MGR with it. Is it usable for FPSs? Couch gaming is fucking comfy, you console fags were right.
it has touchpad its leagues above anything else
steam controller still a best.
Nothing beats sitting under blankie with laptop next to you surfing webs and watching vids and playing vidya
It's not the most comfortable to hold at times, but overall I like it, works for every thing and love being able to customize the controls.
>controller for $50 on steam store
>people on eBay selling it for $70
I picked up the link for $5 to use with my 360 controller and I'm surprised how fun it is. Is it worth getting the controller? I don't suppose it's possible to find in the $20-30 range.
try letting it rest in the palm of your hand instead of trying to grip it
It took me a while but its gotta be all relaxed like. If I grab it hard it gets uncomfortable
>Couch gaming is fucking comfy, you console fags were right.
Next step is too become a console gamer and never come back on your PC for gaming.
Stupid question but could you use this for consoles? Also, how is shit like RTS, ARPGs, and 4x games on it?
nice try faggot
I don't want to play fifa for the rest of my life
no d-pad
it's garbage
aparrently you can
This happened to me when I went from being a richfag to a poorfag. Can't afford to upgrade so I'm stuck with consoles if I wanna play all the hottest newnew
has a dpad.
It's not superb but better than the x360 one
feels more like touchscreen controls than a proper dpad, and if you set it up the other way it requires way too much force to press a direction
What? But PC gamers always say that console are more expensive.
There are many variables here, but in general, fucking hell no.
Maybe it’s just me, but I despise any duel shock controller. I think the Xbox controller is the best out there.
But I’ve never tried the steam controller.
>have steam controller
>like to use the left haptic pad as a movement stick
I don't know why, but for some reason using it as a touch pad with movement feels fantastic.
I sort of wish it was modular, so I could swap out the right haptic for a stick, or even the face buttons for the a smaller haptic.
That's not an Xbox One Elite pad
You mean Xbox One controller, right?
It is, actually, for most genres and it's at least functional for some mouse/kb games. I don't know how usable the D-pad is for movement (supposedly it's good if you get used to it) since I don't play games which use it that way and I don't particularly like twin-stick games with it, other than that it's amazing and outclasses stick-only gamepads by a country mile.
Pretty sure they're told about this.
>how comfortable the trackpads are when holding the controller upside-down
Greying out sensitivity on regular application launches is a problem, as is ..
>I don't know why, but for some reason using it as a touch pad with movement feels fantastic.
The controller is actually a lot more comfortable to hold when you do this.
Current favorites are the Saturn 2 pad for 2D and the Xbone for 3D. Something about shitty consoles and good controllers, man.
Steam controller is just too niche for me to commit to. If I want mouselike precision I'll use my damn mouse.
A used i5 PC with a new 1050ti comes to about $300.
Games prices are often reduced on PC (cdkeys.com, required txting conformation for signing up; G2A; etc.)..
>GTA at 4k, even lowest settings
shills need to go.
Now that you mention it, it really is.
brainlets
I just paid 80€ to switch from my Xbox 360 controller to a Xbox One controller so i could finally get a decent D-Pad. No way would i even touch this hideous thing. No d-pad, no buy.
How do you hold it differently? I don't hold it any differently when using the stick or the left pad, I just move my thumb but its position in my hands is identical.
Not only is there a dpad on the steam controller, the one on the xbone is still a fucking abomination
Does this controller work well for Max Payne 2?
Oh yeah: trackball controllers where?
>mice trackballs were fine, even on mousepads / desks
>top-facing trackballs are especially OK
nad the d-pad on the xbone controller is close to the the dpad on the GBA and DSi/3DS. Its very clicky and responsive, great for older games that require high precision.
Its in a shit position tho
XIM 4 / other translators are matching multiple controls onto consoles (mouse/KB as well).
What's wrong with it?
It's the only one MS has put out that can actually input a single direction instead of like 2 or 3 at a time. I think it's pretty damn good improvement.
thumbs on the trackpads, trigger fingers on the bumpers, middle fingers on the triggers, ring fingers on the grip buttons
you really start to see where valve was coming from with the original design
You need to be able to hit all 8 directions on a d-pad by just tilting your thumb, not use it like a ddr pad like on the steam controller.
I just use my switch pro.
You need Steam to configure it, it wouldn't work on console. For top-down, mouse-driven games it's decent, as in they're actually playable compared to a stick which is just dogshit. Turn-based things work since how optimal the controls are doesn't really influence how well you do and you can probably get used to it. I wouldn't play anything competitive or that requires fast and precise real-time control and is challenging, like SC or some shit.
Yes, however picrel and a mouse is the comfiest way to game.
That's how I hold it anyway, what does using the stick or trackpad have to do with it?
Naw
I've always wanted to get this but it's so goddamn expensive. I could get two games for the price of that thing
The Steam D-pad is the worst I've ever used. I like the controller, but I'd take a 360 over it and day
I don't think you're understanding what he said. He's not criticizing the controller itself.
its just weird how the rest of the controller has this inward design while the stick juts out so much
>buying games at full price
I could get at least 20 games for that price.
absolutely
the thing is, the controller configuration is there to show you how much of a retard you are
anyone with a little bit of care reckons the beauty of this controller instantly
the trackball emulation, the haptic feedback, and the tap to push functionality is worth every penny
>Lasts for a month on two while the DS4 and Xbone stop to charge once a day
hahahahahahaha
I see, it never really bothered me but I get it. You might find it more comfortable if you only use your trigger finger on the shoulder button/trigger. Depending on the game that can be just fine (don't need to use them at the same time) or you can move them to the back padels.
