Gameplay-wise, it's the best in the series so far. It doesn't have much in the way of problems compared to the rest of the series, which either has fucked battle systems, or garbo dungeons. Whether or not the story resonates with you is another matter altogether. I love gentleman thief shit in general, so I found it to be great.

I do play Shin Megami Tensei, but Persona is also great, aside from Persona 3, which is only as good as Digital Devil Saga.

Of 3, 4 and 5, though I admittedly haven't played 1 and 2. I started with Persona 3 and when I wanted to branch out mainline SMT and other MegaTen spinoffs were more interesting than P1 and 2. I'm not especially fond of P3, almost everything I liked about it was done better in4 and 5 in my eyes, and playing those just made my opinion of 3 drop lower and lower.

I've played FES and P3P. Though I will say that I think they're both better than the vanilla version of 4, but I also think they're both worse than P4G, which I probably should have mentioned before.

They're not even thieves though. They just beat the shit out of everything in sight. There's hardly any real stealth gameplay or story elements. That's one of the game's biggest weaknesses.

I will beat Persona 5 one of these days. I beat Shidou, so I'm clearly at the end, but ever since I got it on release, I haven't cleared that finish line. I've beaten P2-P4 myriad times, but something about P5 just didn't resonate with me. I can't even call it a bad game, the music is quality, the dungeons are orders of magnitude better than P3 and P4, but I think the characters just felt very bland. I cared more about the NPC links than my party members, which is not a good look.
