Why did this game so much negative attention on release here?
Is it because it is a legitimate challenging game compared to dark souls?
It's absolutely incredible. Much more fun than any of the soulsbourne games and far harder. Yet while I might get frustrated after 5 deaths at any part in dark souls, in nioh I can hit my head at the same brick wall 50 times and never get frustrated. The gameplay is so goddamn fun that I could spend all day summoning revenants to kill and never get bored.
It actually had rpg elements beyond just choose your stats and begining equipment, and a far better implemented magic system than souls games.
You could argue the level design is subpar, and the story can't compare to dark souls 1 or bloodborne. But beyond that I have to almost say it's a better game.
>Why did this game so much negative attention on release here? They hate the low amount of iframes on dodge. Hmmm, where did I hear that complaint before?
Xavier Hall
Nioh is the antithesis to all the roll spamming katana wielding git gud kiddies dark souls created, despite it initially appearing to be exactly just that.
Aiden Russell
It's a weird game, some levels are good and some are repetitive as fuck.
Also, some bosses are fun and challenging and others full of S H O C K W A V E S, stupid grab attacks and one-hit kill moves.
Overall, it just lacks the polish the Dark Souls series have, but it's still kinda fun
Julian Russell
The dodge iframes are literally just ripped straight out of ninja gaiden, meaning you actually have to have genuine timing to make use of them.
Noah Cox
That's not a bad thing. Dodging should always just be a movement option, not the ultimate problem solver.
Juan Edwards
WHEN THE FUCK ARE THEY RELEASING THE PHYSICAL PS4 COMPLETE EDITION GODDAMNIT
David Roberts
Found it a lot easier that dark souls 1 honestly. It's a good game but just feels lacking somehow. Enemy variety is low, bosses are boring for the most part ( with a few exceptions), level design looks repetitive. Didn't like the loot system at all.
Juan Russell
I know. I'm saying I like nioh dodging more
Lucas Price
Nioh is less frustrating because when you die it doesn't take 30 seconds to load like Dark Souls does on a console.
Hudson Johnson
soulsfags are pretty casual so no surprise tbrqh
Jaxon Diaz
Im 38 hours into it on PC. I like it but the loot system is annoying as fuck and the levels are so bland looking and depressing? I dunno if thats a good word for it but it makes it tiring to play. But I like the level layouts, the shortcuts and nooks everywhere.
Jacob Perry
It's not hated that much. I just finished it and think it's a good game overall, but lacks some polish and has gotten balance all wrong.
The core gameplay is solid and the combat feels good, way better than Souls indeed, but the loot/gear/stats system is such a large part of your effectiveness in combat that it's probably impossible to properly balance a fair challenge. So basically you either get two-shotted by everything or you destroy fodder and bosses alike in a few hits. I would have liked it more as a modern Onimusha game, less gear but with fixed stats/perks around which to balance a proper challenge.
Ayden Brooks
Just watched my friend play up to Tachibana this weekend. He was playing it like Dark Souls and died like 50 times to all the bosses, except Hino-Enma which he killed in 3 attempts. People who attempt to play it like Dark Souls fail miserably, because they never block. This game also punishes you pretty hard in general if you go in too aggressively.
Jackson Powell
Its boring Loot systems suck Levels are boring with nothing to really explore Too few enemies Music sucks Story is too convoluted, more than it needs to be All the characters are uninteresting
It's gameplay is really good but its surrounded by mediocrity.
Alexander Hughes
I had an interest in this game and watched some of the threads about it when it released. Biggest complaints I remember were the lack of enemy variety and bland level design. No idea how the DLC changes these points, if at all.
Chase Hill
DLCs added new enemies, and the devs sprinkled them into the normal levels to bring a little variety.
Anthony Morgan
>Story is too convoluted t. brainlet
James Rivera
It wasn't on PC like Dark Souls.
Evan Carter
Everything except the combat is absolutely terrible. Level design/variety, enemy design/variety, story/lore, loot mechanics, and art style are just straight up bad.
Combat is arguably better than any Souls game though.
Ayden Lewis
>the same sengoku era shit we've all seen 500 times >the story is too complicated
Damn nigga you stupid.
William Garcia
>Combat is arguably better than any Souls game though. Implying that that's even a remotely hard benchmark to cross. Souls combat is trash.
Christopher Morris
I genuinely hated the ps4 beta. It was like a chinese rip off of the souls games. It just felt cheap and after I finished it, I felt like I didn't do anything to win. Just that the game was flawed and not thought out properly.
Kevin Fisher
at some point, close to launch, it had ~55% positive reviews on steam, which is now 81%
Levi Young
i like how you autists don't try to defend against he other, more relevant, criticism in my post. Lol You admit Nioh is trash
Alexander Fisher
>Why did this game so much negative attention on release here? it didn't other than the classic KT pc port posts
Liam Taylor
Angry Soulsdrone pissed that their game has been dethroned.
Logan Long
This game was a failure. When I buy a game, I expect to be able to beat it. They wouldn't even let me refund it.
Jose Jackson
I'm glad I didn't buy a ps4 and waited. Pretty good game overall.
Dylan Turner
the story is just history mixed with Edward "Weeb" Kelley wanting to resurrect Oda Nobunaga and Yamata no Orochi, also demons.
Brayden Rogers
because it didnt launch with mouse and keyboard support and now it does
Tyler Johnson
No KB+M support amongst other things which led to it being rightfully called a barebones port, but they have been patching it to their credit. It's got less appeal than souls but the appearance is similar enough that people will buy it expecting the same thing and will be disappointed, so it's not really going to have an amazing rating.
Nolan Robinson
It's not as challenging as the Soulsbourne series, but it still is pretty fun.
The Diablo loot system was a little frustrating, thank god for jacking items from other player's phantoms, and the lack of enemy variety wore thin REALLY quickly.
Aiden Davis
It’s because dodging in Nioh actually requires you to get out of the way of the attack and not just phase through it with iframes. Unless you’re some kind of cheeky cunt who uses Tonfa and Kannagi
Dylan Torres
It's an actually difficult game in the Soulsborne genre, so of course From drones were a little confused and reacted by review bombing it.
Andrew Morgan
>It's not as challenging as the Soulsbourne series LMAO
Justin Richardson
Fuck this game. At one point I seriously was thinking it might be better than the Dark Souls games. Then it just kept ratcheting up the difficulty and recycling bosses, only this time you get to fight two clearly 1v1 oriented enemies with 50% more health and with both of them at the same time. It is full of artificial padding, and honestly I'm having trouble at this point wondering whether I dislike it or Dark Souls 2 more.
Benjamin Kelly
Oh and the those little fuckers you find that give you % bonuses. I love those little fuckers. I just found 1 so i had to alt tab to tell you all i love them.
Cooper Roberts
you didn't give criticism, you only gave your worthless opinion. i agree on the loot system being shit tho, the enemy scaling is dumb as shit too since all the noobs keep crying about being one shot, which is the only reason why people want to drop nioh even though the combat is fucking beautiful.
Daniel Bennett
>Soulsborne genre
Dylan Evans
It has all these really great concepts that are let down by lazy designs. Too many copy-pasted bosses and enemies with uninspired movesets usually consisting of about three attacks many of which will have attacked shockwaves and projectiles that all behave ridiculously.
Out of the thirty-or-so stage layouts only a couple of them are interesting or well-designed with most of them just being boring strolls straight forward. The enemies and obstacles are never placed in clever ways to interact with the environment and instead the game just keeps pulling the same old cheap tricks (huurrr let's put a wheel monk in a long coridoor).
The game has a grand total of like five enemies and the huge amount of bosses is less impressive when you realize how similar most of them are. The hitboxes on almost all of them are absolutely awful and damage is inconsistent - you'll often get one-shot by the same attack over and over.
Asher Davis
>Nobunaga + Yuki-Onna
Zachary Cruz
You mean corpse popping? I lost a full character and refused to duel until it was fixed.
Charles Martin
just go in low stance to dodge, even with an odachi/axe you have DS3-tier iframes.
Owen Sanchez
Because most of its subjective and you have clearly already made up your mind but if the story is too hard for you to understand you're a fucking retard so your opinion is worth nothing oh well heres your (you)
Jonathan Miller
think about the phantom range in Dark souls 2.
Charles Russell
like...Ninja Gaiden Ryu?
Charles Phillips
I fought him for the first time on Way of the Demon. He fucked my shit up.
Jordan Brown
even before they announced a M+KB support the reviews slowly became more positive, it probably doesn't actually matter to most people, alot of faggots just tried to review bomb Nioh for some reason
Liam Lee
>Bloodborne’s setting with Nioh’s Combat will never happen
Can you imagine the stake driver having as many moves as one single weapon in Nioh. Transforming it could be like stances.
Colton Carter
The one and only.
Parker Parker
Jin Hayabusa, his ancestor. But he fights exactly like him
Nathan Morales
fuck bloodborne settings. Invasion pvp with Nioh combat is the fucking dream never ever QQ
Jackson Gutierrez
I really don't like Nioh's combat. Fucking hurts my hands having to do 20 things at once.
Jeremiah Hill
user you might need to go to a doctor
Alexander Walker
What? The combat is the reason to play Nioh.
Kevin Howard
I phase through the mothman's slashes all day the fuck you saying
Nathaniel Edwards
...
Levi Nguyen
Steam isn't "here"
Lincoln Stewart
Nioh 2 is going to be a fantastic game, since the team behind it will hopefully listen to fan feedback and make something... Tighter, that builds on the success of the original. Nioh as it is though is a fantastic set of core systems brought down by mediocre design in virtually ever other area.
Carter Young
I know, I played the demo on ps4 and beat both bosses but I never felt like I was getting better at the combat, just getting enough equipment to let me kill things before I get swarmed and annihilated.
Christopher Kelly
>Nioh 2 Dont get my hopes up.
Easton Sanders
Are they making a sequel? I think it might do better if it dropped a lot of the loot overload and systems related to that and just made it more of a straight up action game, since Nioh is perfectly fine in the first playthrough without having to worry about any of that, it just adds some unnecessary complexity to it.
John Richardson
you can just play it like dark souls, use high stance against singular enemies, mid stance when you are swarmed, low stance for running/ dodging and just spam light or heavy attacks
Aaron Wood
>Are they making a sequel? Now that DOA is dead, on what else are they working on?
Gabriel Diaz
Like: -Combat -Guns/Bows that are actually effective
Dislike: -Level design (compared to souls) -Repetition -Equipment with randomized stats -Story
It's a decent game, and I'm glad this is becoming its own genre, but I play souls/bloodborne mainly for the world design and atmosphere.
Hudson Martinez
>but I play souls/bloodborne mainly for the world design and atmosphere. That's why I play them too. I play Nioh for the combat.
Josiah Morgan
Level design is mediocre to poor and the enemy variety is terrible, which left me bored after 30~ hours. Also, the loot system is terrible.
It’s an excellent game, but from soft still did it better. Can’t wait for Nioh 2, I hope they call it niohni
Luis Sullivan
>All these fags comparing it to the souls series You niggas actually play the game?
Christian Gomez
Holy fuck I'm glad I know that I'm getting this for Chistmas because my grandma accidentally let it slip. Is it DLC or base game? And can I dress as him?
Cooper Fisher
Still supporting Dissidia Arcade Ninja Gaiden the 4th Other M 2
Evan Parker
That's what soulsfag do. They would compare them to fucking Mario if given the chance.
Jason Price
DLC but if you're getting it for christmas I assume it would be the one that includes everything.
You can unlock get outfit, his sword, and Izuna Drop as a move.
Joseph Kelly
Clearly you haven't.
Julian James
Just started playing it and it's incredibly easy.
I don't use items/ninjitsu/magic/blocking at all. The only thing I need to do is roll through attacks and change my weapon whenever I get a more powerful one.
Does it get more challenging later?
Samuel Parker
Third DLC. Yes you can, you get a bunch of drops from him.
Kevin Richardson
Shut the fuck up just because you don't like collecting loot doesn't mean other people don't. My favorite part of the game.
Brody Gutierrez
>Izuna Drop FUCK ME that's so cool. I'm a burger so I don't think I'm getting the GOTY edition, but I'll fucking buy it, I don't care. I'll try to get through the main game first but fuck that's so cool.
Is it random drops or beating him guarantees all of that gear?
Brody Sullivan
Wow you are very cool
John Cook
Let me guess, you aren't even in japan yet
Jackson Howard
>Is it random drops It's random, I got it on my 5th try, some people were reporting that they got it after 20 and more tries.
Samuel Walker
>more challenging The first difficulty is very standard, at least until you hit the DLCs where it jumps up a bit. It gets exponentially more difficult in the third difficulty and beyond. I've only played through Way of the Wise (second last difficulty), but It's one of the hardest games I've played this year. If you like challenge, you'll find it.
Evan Hall
>DLC but if you're getting it for christmas I assume it would be the one that includes everything. Japan was the only region that got the complete edition on a physical disc, so unless he's nipponese he still has to shill out for the season pass.
Aaron Mitchell
>negative attention on release lurk moar
Jordan Stewart
Forgot to mention that's only for Izuna Drop, gear drops normally.
Asher Parker
I absolutely steamrolled him when I fought him the first time. Granted I was using THE BULL and a bunch of gear with final blow up.
Isaac Kelly
He's also the hardest guy in the game to beat by miles. On NG+ he's harder than most bosses on NG+++ It's like he's from a different genre entirely, like trying to fight DMC4 Dante while you're playing Dark Souls or something.
And he drops that stuff pretty regularly (Izuna Drop not so much) but if you want to make it yourself you need the smithing text, which is a LOT rarer. There's a lot you can do to increase your luck but even then it's still mostly just RNG. youtube.com/watch?v=fRjPxlOrs7Y
Cameron Jones
It's like they took Ryu from NG2 and added him to the game. He destroyed my ass so many times.
Sebastian Cox
In the sekigahara region at the moment
Ah, neat. Hope I'm close to that. And should I use the blacksmith for anything? At the moment I just have a massive pile of cash because I sell all my yellow >= items and don't really have any idea what to buy. There doesn't seem to be anything good to buy and I'm doing fine just using the weapons that I pick up.
Nolan Nelson
I can live with that, it'll feel worth it when i finally get it all.
Got it. I figured he'd be end end game stuff so I don't mind.
Connor Wilson
>hardest guy in the game M8 you've never really fought him have you? He's not even one of the 5 hardest bosses
Aiden Turner
>tfw been grinding saika 2 hours straight for texts >take a break random torii gate >watcher in the darkness >sprint for boss room >saika drops the fucking armor set >summoner annoyed and won't end the mission >he gets killed by onryoki lmao feels fucking good
Alexander Jackson
Heres my lvl 1 willy. About to take on umibozo.
David Sanders
Nah don't worry about the blacksmith. All of the smithing and equipment shit matters in the following difficulties. For now just keep playing and pick up whatever weapons you like, you'll keep finding equipment better than what you currently own.
You're close to the next difficulty, there's only another region after Sekigahara. If you have the DLC you can do it right then and there or skip it to go to the next difficulty, your choice. Remember to disassemble sometimes as well, you use some of those items for forging later on.
Way of the Strong (next difficulty) gets harder but you shouldn't notice that much of a difference. Way of the Demon is where shit really hits the fan, the DLC areas in particular are ridiculous.
Lucas Kelly
keep the fires lit my man, especially one on your sword
Jaxson Fisher
>Played on PS4 with no DLC >The last fight I did was with the two kings guys on hard mode >Gave myself seven hernias trying to beat them >Got PC complete edition >Couldn't beat the two ninjas at the same time on easy >Tried the gauntlet mission and laughed at how ridiculous it was Well played to anyone who did everything in Nioh without cheating, I did about 90% of all content before giving up
Isaac Wilson
>not bringing civilization to the Eastern barbarians
Parker Jones
>salty m+kb fags I bet they use a controller for shoots, those ass backwards dumbshits!
