Having played them both in release order as they came out, the second one. Dark Cloud 2 is a prime example of GOOD streamlining systems from the previous game, there is tons of content to do and uncover, there is more characterization across the board, and is overall less grindy than the first game. Granted there are some darker story elements of the first game that I missed in the second game (for example Goro's father's death).
2 is way better. The first is not a bad game by any means, but if you can only play one, then 2 is the way to go.
Dark Cloud 2 is a direct improvement, mechanic-wise; beyond that is subjective.
1
2 is shit
1 was better.
I thought it was a Zelda clone when I rented it.
2. 2 has way, way less character management and switching, and forgoes the permanent weaponloss. Unfortunately the photography bit of two leads to more than a handful of perma-missable inventions, and the ride machine is a chore to use all the way until star valley where you get your first decent set of legs.
It may have been retarded kid vision but going into Dark Cloud 2 I was kind of turned off by how it was stylized and the fact you're wielding a wrench.
Nothing wrong with it, I just liked the bland fantasy feel of the first one.
You forgot to mention that Monica's transformations are pretty much useless.
Dark Chronicle is my favorite, but my biggest issues with it are
>Monster Transformations were legitimately worthless for anything other than talking to monsters, they required insane amounts of experience to level up as well
>The best weapons in the game were joke weapons
Other than that it's great.
So uselss I forgot they were a thing
>mastering a species of transformation is an achievement on the ps4 release
W-wew
>best weapon for Monica is a surf board
>best weapon for Max is a fisher price hammer with a face on it
1 is max comfy
How much are these games on PS4? How do they run?
Decently enough, but the menus have a reoccuring texture issue that you will definitely run into. It's been awhile since I last played the PS4 port, but I can't remember any gameplay related issues.
HAH
HEE
The failed QTEs in DC1 were surprisingly grim
The best weapon is actually Steve.
>buying the Voicebox for Steve
Absolutely love em both, in my top 10.

Literally every song in dark cloud 1 is better
Dark Cloud 2's OST is incredible.

Ah, finally, the real reason we're all here.

I don't know why but all the youtube videos for the OST with that picture sound REALLY out of tune from what I remember.
>No Dark Chronicle 2 remake with stronger Monster transformations and Lin as a party member
Why even live?

This cunt and her moaning almost got me in trouble.
2 is better, but 1 has the better soundtrack.
the first
We can love them both all we want but all we will get is No No Kuni.
>that music when Dark Genie reveals his final form

I cried when they tried to save her senpai but failed anyways. It was nice that she became the sage in the future.
I love them both, but I think the second game is mechanically better. I see you Sony, funding movie shit instead of Dark Cloud 3, fuck you so fucking much.
Love the first one. Love me some catgirl waifus. On the other hand, the second is better gameplay-wise. However, the story is pure cringe. It's basically Xenoblade tier.
It's good if you want rare gems that you can't get anywhere else. You only get 2-3 sun and moon jewels for example.
I really don't see what's so bad about it, they're both revenge stories in the end. The only reason I can see people hating 2's story is Sirus was a moon rabbit.
Why did they give her such an importantly passive when she is a tempory assistant?
>You will never see Gaspard vs Monica / Max defending the Lighthouse for the first time while this theme is blasting off in the background

Chapter 3 really picked up in comparison to the other 2.
Loved 2, only problem was some of the extra content like the golf game and objects not properly alligning themselves. First village is best.
I had to lower the volume for that shit
2, but both of them are easily in the top 10 PS2 games
The stories have a pacing issue where they magically fix a problem with a deus ex machina every single time. It kind of blends all together too much.
>hey, we have problem
>oh, [thing] can fix problem
>[thing] is never brought up again after using it once
I guess it's a minor complaint since it's for gameplay reasons. Like for example I don't imagine myself using a starglass ever again, or lao chao's bistro food to cure illness. There were so many missed opportunities to make these crucial items a little more important in the game, kinda like the sundrops that have multiple uses.
Onto another issue is replayability. If you've seen a cutscene already, and you want to skip it, the game gives you a hell of a time. What it does is that it chops a giant cutscene intoa thousand smaller ones, so if you want to skip all of it, you have to keep skipping it in the start menu over and over again, and the game had quite a few loading issues, so what would normally take 10 seconds in another game would now cost me 20 minutes in "skip" menues and load times.
>tfw no standalone Spheda game
>tfw Spheda in Starlight Canyon
Anyone elses first vidya crush Monica?
Yep. Sincé she entered the fray and saved Max from Flotsam.
fucking best girl of all time
>ca't show that cn a children imagecard
What the heck does that mean?
No, I was in my early teens when Dark Cloud 2 release. She's still a cutie though.
>Monica uses the Starlight Hourglass to travel back in time just to see Max, and the in-game description of the item say it takes someone back to a moment in the past of significant importance
Cute as fuck.
The PS2 era had some really good waifus.
>those fucking shorts
I had to stop playing Wild Arms 5 after starting it for a while because I had to fap to Rebecca.
You know, I'd love to try the Wild Arms series. Is it like Dark Cloud in story structure? I've heard good things about the gameplay.
From your image, it also has some top tier waifus. WHo's the cutie in blue?
I remember buying the item "Starlight Leotard", not knowing what it was. That's probably where my leotard fetish began.
Basically this. I actually like the Georama in the first game better, but otherwise DC2 is much more polished and overall comfier to play. Both games are great though.
otoko da
Both OSTs are fantastic, you swine.
>no porn of the genie from the first game
Why...
2 is better but no backfloors kinda sucks and getting scoops sucks ass
Dark Cloud 3 never.
That's a boy, my man.
Wild Arms 1-4 features normal turn base combat system where you roam around the world map following the storyline and objectives. Wild Arms 5 has a grid system where you move around a bunch of spaces for máximum efficience, see this video
youtube.com
Play Wild Arms 3 (for pic related qt female protagonist) or 5 if you wanna get into the series, those are the best ones. Don't expect anything amazing though, they're just good JRPGs, but nothing outstanding.
that's because they were a little different ingame, and there was other ambient noise on top of it.
some people have the ingame versions on youtube:

>that's a boy
Bamboozled again.
This sounds a lot better, honestly.
it's pained me for over a decade now
Didn't they try to make a Dark Cloud MMO with Microsoft with native voice comm but failed in the end?
I haven't played 2 and don't plan to because I don't like the steampunk setting it seems to have.
I know they made White Knight Chronicles which was almost an MMO and a sort-of spiritual successor. What a tragedy that game was.
The first city is upscale mid 19th century paris, you probably just get that vibe because the MC is an inventor and makes robots n shit, after that there's nothing even remotely steampunk
I always wanted to play it but I've never had a ps3. How similar/disappointing was it?
What was better for Max again? His hammers or his laser beams?
Neither. Steve did everything better.
Kind of an irrelevant question because you can have both. Hammers are his best melee weapons and laser guns are his best ranged option
It was neither a good single-player RPG nor a good online game because it tried to be both at the same time. It had an amazing character creator, great knight designs, great armor designs that you could mix and match and see on your character, and a lot of care put into things like animations and the way feet mapped to the uneven terrain (shit that made the game look good), but the ground battle system and dungeons were horrifically long and boring. I beat both games, but I can barely remember a thing about the story or characters outside of a couple twists and tropes.
Dark cloud
>faggot silent protagonist
>bullshit final boss that uses unavoidable attacks and can only be defeated using ruby's ranged attack. If you didn't play her on a regular basis for the entire game your are completely fucked as you will never kill the genies second phase
>georama components only have one possible use
>One stupid fishing minigame.
Dark cloud 2
>Bullshit items limits
>georama building all use base components that have no guaranteed drop in the dungeon so you will most likely end up spending loads of money just buying the resources from the train.
>Have to solve tonnes of bullshit sidequests to recruit townspeople to join your cause.
>the Georama completion requirements are fucking absurd. (though I admit the last on in griffin's palace was fun)
>Way to many pointless mini games, golf, fish races ect ect.
Dark cloud 1 was less shitty.
All of the final weapons are viable, pretty much. The machine gun might not be able to penetrate high defense enemies though. I always preferred wrenches to hammers, but laser guns are easily the most fun of his guns.
>Rolfstomp everything with Steve
>People say how hard some sections are because you have to play as Monica so you can't do that with Monica
>Buy a sealbreaker on Palm Brinks and keep rolfstomping as Steve
>Get a Muramasa from one of Chapter 6 rewards in the forest and Monica becomes a powerhouse
Shame about the bracelets though. Game was easy anyway, just Steve > switch to Monica or Max for EXP to lvl up weapons > repeat.
Are you telling me Level 5 beat Square to the punch when making FFXV?
>Bullshit items limits
Also present in the first game
>georama building all use base components that have no guaranteed drop in the dungeon so you will most likely end up spending loads of money just buying the resources from the train
Money is abundant and materials are cheap. I never had a problem getting the stuff I needed.
>Have to solve tonnes of bullshit sidequests to recruit townspeople to join your cause
Sidequests are standard JRPG fare, and I appreciated the vareity to them. You don't have to recruit everyone either.
>the Georama completion requirements are fucking absurd. (though I admit the last on in griffin's palace was fun)
Your definition of absurd is questionable.
>Way to many pointless mini games, golf, fish races ect ect.
All almost completely optional outside of the occasional quest or tutorial. Personally, I enjoyed the optional activities. Getting good at Spheda was the best.
t.massive brainlet.
I have both games for the ps2
Armlets take a lot of investment, and they rely on the elemental weaknesses of enemies, but eventually they do become strong. It's nice to be able to nuke enemies with magic in the later dungeons.
i like the first one more
2 has some shitty cellshading
in the first game you could carry as many of one item as there were open spaces in your inventory. that was the "limit."
In the second game every consumable is capped at like 10-20. Artificial difficulty.
>He needs more than 2-3 consumables
Poor little baby.
I'm not gonna lie, you make some good points about Dark Cloud 1, and I understand some of your gripes with DC2. However, I would like to argue against a few.
>Bullshit items limits
It was necessary so you wouldn't just hoarde infinite healing items. Even now there's more than plenty for you to get through any battle.
>georama building all use base components that have no guaranteed drop in the dungeon so you will most likely end up spending loads of money just buying the resources from the train.
Ehh, there's plenty of ways to make money though. You can endlessly sell cheese and bread and chicken when you acquire the proper people.
>Have to solve tonnes of bullshit sidequests to recruit townspeople to join your cause.
Which ones were "bullshit" to you? I think the only one that I found to be stupid was that moon girl rabbit who said you had to win a competition for her to join. But she's completely optional anyway.
>the Georama completion requirements are fucking absurd. (though I admit the last on in griffin's palace was fun)
Again in which way? I don't recall any being just plain unfair, although I do hate that, after beating chapter 7, you can't go to the future anymore.
>Way to many pointless mini games, golf, fish races ect ect.
Isn't that kind of the point of a minigame, to be pointless fun? The fishing and golf mechanics alone could easily be their own games. They were nice distractions and they also gave you prizes to use in your quest. So they're completely useless.
Stop defending it with your childish insults you edgy cunt.
What purpose would there be to being able to stockpile them endlessly? Wouldn't that break the game by letting you be able to heal infinitely? I also understand why they did it, you have ALOT more stuff to collect this time around. You could inadvertenly fill up your whole inventory just with healing items if they each took up a slot. I guess they could've done it better, but the system worked at least.
>the first game has a limit
>the second game also has a limit
>the second game has artificial difficulty!
Fuck off, retard. So you can carry 100 loaves of bread in DC1 if you carry nothing else, and you can only carry 20 bread, 20 crunchy bread, 20 cheese, premium chicken, and everything else the game needs you to carry in DC2. If you found yourself in situations where you needed more items, you might just be bad at the game.
The shitty golf minigame is a trophy too. Nobody remotely intelligent will ever get the Platinum for it.
up to or exceeding 100 premium chickens vs 20 premium chickens. hmmmm which one is better...
>shitty golf minigame
out
>should I be allowed 100 overpowered healing items that instantly bring me back to full health with no consequence, cooldown, or even penalty for mass eating them like a pig
or
>should I only be allowed a smaller, fixed amount so I have to actively be careful how much I use in any one excursion
>bad at the game
>game isn't hard for bad reasons
Using your logic why not force people to fight ff8 omega weapon but only have 10 mega elixirs.
Just like in demons souls you could carry up to 100 moon grasses but in dark souls you could only by default have 5-10 estus swigs.
>liking spheda
That actually sounds like a good idea. You'd have to formulate a strategy instead of just insta-healing your way through the fight.
t. shitter who never got gud
>he doesn't like Spheda
Why should insta-healing myself through out the fight not be a potential strategy?
>sucking so bad at video games that you can't complete a level without nearly endless access to healing at all times
did you know that you can dodge and block in this game?
Dark Cloud 2 isn't hard at all even with the inventory limitations. It's not a bad thing for a game to require a tiny bit of skill from the player.
>hur hurr you can block!
The Dark elemental can one shot you with certain attacks even if you "block." The easiest strategy is you simply tank through it and land attacks while you have immunity frames.
Why doesn't Super Mario Bros give you an invincibility shroom at the start of every level that lasts until the end of the level?
Shut the fuck up with your "skill" you colossal fucking faggot.
I beat the fucking game just like you.
