Bloodborne

Bloodborne thread

Anyone got tips for building an arcane character? Early-game weapons etc. I imagine I shouldn't start dumping points into arcane until I get some gems to make it matter.

Beat Gascoigne by parrying or any other method you can then go down the stairs in the Cathedral Ward where that Church Giant patrols, at the end of the path you can find a Fire Gem in a chest to get you started (scales with arcane). Put points into VIT and use the Saw Cleaver until then.

First one I think you can get is after you beat the blood starved beast. You have to drop down that tower and exit through the bottom. Somewhere in those corridors after that is a mindflayer enemy guarding a fire blood gem.

I think that's just a tempering blood gem.

Also, as soon as you get those tall dudes with the sacks, get killed by one and go to yahargul to get the tonitrus. Also try to get the flamesprayer as soon as you can and upgrade it a few times. With a few points in arcane it has decent damage output against most of the first half of the game since you fight mostly beasts. Especially Amelia.

Another tip for arcane is using the Hunter's Torch if you know where it is. Upgrade it a few times and it's a good weapon for old yharnam.

Quick question, was there ever any value in using the weapon variants you find in the dungeons?

Keep in mind that a pure arcane build is possible it just takes some intimate knowledge of the game to make it suck less.

How about STR/ARC quality? Though I believe weapons lose their physical scaling with gems...

Don't make an arcane character for your first playthrough

put ur points into vitality and strength

Don't. It's hell.

nobody ever said it was anyones first character.

And why would you ever suggest the most boring build possible for a first timer? Trying to get people to dislike the game?

Just use the saw spear until you get some gems to convert damage. It's fun and makes bosses like the defiled Amygdala a cakewalk later on.

Different gem slots result in different variants, mostly for arc build weapons.

It's largely inconsequential.

>most boring build possible for a first timer
What? Doesn't matter if you build str, quality, arc or blt or some strange ass mix, the thrill of the game is in actually playing it and fighting shit.

I think the only weapons for a str/arc build is moonlight sword and the wheel. If you want those it should be fine though.

How's a BLT build for PvE? Heard the Chikage is fun.

The Chikage is your only option.

And only in it's transformed form.

Blt builds is a joke.

Is Stake Driver the most patrician way to play?

is the stake driver as fun as people make it out to be?

It's alright but far more of a pain in the ass than any other build for not all that much benefit other than the novelty of your guns doing damage. You get Chikage, Bloodletter, and Simon's Bowblade. The Bowblade in particular is ridiculously powerful in PvE.

...

>forgetting about the Bloodletter, Simon's Bowblade, Reiterpallasch and the Madaras Whistle hunter tool
>not using the Gatling Gun, Evelyn, Repeating Pisol and the Cannon/Church Cannon
BLT builds are ridiculously good, what are you two on about?

We didn't forget, they just aren't worth mentioning.

Yes, the gameplay really shines when you run around pewpewing with a peashooter instead of being in melee.

does the dlc still have active players on it?

>And why would you ever suggest the most boring build possible for a first timer
Lol how the fuck is it boring? You get to use some of the best, funnest weapons in the game, most of them pretty fucking early on too.

Its simplicity is also great for newcomers since they don't have to worry about min/maxing or anything too complicated; dump everything on STR/VIT/END, slap whatever gems you find on your way and just worry about getting good.

It's as foolproof as it gets, the fuck you talking about boy

>builds
>bloodborne

just do whatever and get a character to 50 in all stats so you can use everything

Oh, so you're shitters then.

Carry on.

>Cannons
>Gatling Gun
>pea shooters
So you didn't even attempt a BLT build, got it.

My negros.

This.
Like it's not even hard. You'll finish 50'ing every stat long before you'll finish minmaxing gems for anything other than what would be a pure skl build.

It's more for what kind of playthrough you want for NG.

theres an arcane guide in the sticky of /bbg/, which incidentally is a great general, one of the few i can actually recommend from /vg/

heres a quick rundown from someone who has done it many many times.
>start Cruel Fate, rush the saw spear - you can kill Cleric Beast with literally nothing but Oil Urns and Molotov Cocktails (6/14 in the starter area respectively) if you choose to - level nothing but Vit and Arcane
>Kill Gascoine by spamming Music Box and backstabbing with a +2 Saw Spear (again, shards are found in first area easily) 2nd phase you can only use Box once but a few more hits and he should go down easily
>Clear Old Yharnam - use the Fire Paper, Beast Blood Pellets and Pungent Blood Cocktails within to make BSB an absolute joke (its weak to fire, and serrated weapons which Saw Spear is in both forms) Just throw a cocktail into a corner, use fire paper, use pellet, and start spamming transmform attacks (l1) into its back to build up your beasthood quicker and every time you empty your stamina bar, throw a cocktail into the wall whilst it recharges. The boss shouldnt even move if you do this right
>Go to the Workshop, kill the wandering madness for 2x Twin Shards, down to the bottom and kill the Brainsucker in the streets below to get the Waning Fire Gem it is guarding. Put it in your weapon and now it deals Fire damage and scales with arcane
>Grab the Twin Shards in Central Yharnam (2 from behind the Brainsucker off the main courtyard), head to the right of Amelias Church to pick up 4 more from the two wandering madnesses behind the Executioners at the end of that path, ignore the Hunters.
>Upgrade your Saw Spear to +5 and beat the absolute piss out of Amelia with it, again using Beast Blood Pellets and transform attacks, the Fire + Serrated + Beasthood will make her a literal joke
[cont]

>Run to the forest, collect the beast blood pellets, Tonsil Stone from the NPC, Beast Roar, 10 Molotovs from above the swamp river, then clear the cannon area and open the shortcut to the village which has more Twin Shards in it (aswell as twin shards to the right of the building behind the cannon). You can go up here and grab the Cannon to sell, aswell as cheese the NPC Monster dude there by just running into the corridoor and throwing poison knives at him till he keels over - either way, open up the Forest Shortcut for later, then run back into the main village, and head down to the swamp under Iosefkas
>Pick up the Arcane Triangle Gem in the swamp, as well as the Nourishing Radial and put the Nourishing in your Saw Spear, head up to the clinic, fetch the Cainhurst Summons
>(OPTIONAL) get killed by a Snatcher and wake up in Yarhargul, theres some twin shards on offer and you can get Tonitrus to have a nice Bolt weapon - shit gems for it early on though but its still good to have
>Head back to Amelias church and go where you went before to fetch the twin shards, get grabbed by the Amygdala now that you have the Tonsil Stone and you'll appear in lecture hall, pick up Augur of Ebrietas (your new best friend) - Run to the other side of the church and clear through Hemwick, bully Witches with spear + Augur and go to Cainhurst
>Clear through Cainhurst until you get Executioners Gloves, pick up the Chunks in there too so you can +7 your Fire Saw Spear, kill Logarius if you like but its hard since he resists all arcane shit
>Create a chalice dungeon with the pthumeru chalice, get to layer 3 and kill Hotdog for Fire Radials for your spear (can do this at any point after you kill BSB, way easier with tools you have now though - dudes with fire axes in chalice also drop fire radials, you want 2 fire radials anyway)
[cont]

>Go into DLC with +7 Fire Spear and only ARC/Vit levelled, grab the chunks from the Wandering Madness in the Blood River and the cave behind it, grab the lamp outside Ludwig and the chunks there too, +8/9 your spear and kill Ludwig with it (just practice)
>Clear Research Hall for 3 Brain Fluid, give them to the chick downstairs for balcony key/milkweed rune and blacksky eye
>Smash Failures and bully Maria with tentacle hand, put milkweed on before running into Hamlet and the first npc will give you Accursed Brew
>Farm two Radial Bolt gems from the lightning fishermen dudes and grab the Waning Bolt Gem and Blood Rock from behind the Winter Lanterns outside Orphan - +10 your Saw Spear and you can now make it bolt or fire, or grab a duplicate and make one of each (or use tonitrus)
>kill Orphan (augur backstabs OP) and you have ayy tentacle, equip with Milkweed rune for better moveset and thats it, go do chalice dungeons

Dump literally everything into arc and experience the erection of one's hitting bosses with your hunters tool

Faggot

Get the flammenwerfer asap from the window guy
Put some points in skl, start with the cane and switch to the riflespear once you can get it. Rely on its tricked charge R2 to get you by

woops, didnt see it was posted
i couldnt find it in the bbg sticky

these opinions are retarded dont listen to them, at all
Chikage is your main bet and what you will be rushing towards in Cainhurst (along with sweet, sweet Evelyn) but you also get Bloodletter and Simons Bowblade in the DLC which are amazing. Bloodletter is a monstrous mace and Bowblades bow form scales with BLT and with charge gems can do crazy fucking damage
Also BLT is way easier to do than ARC because Bloodtinge weapons have their damage increased by Physical UP gems so you dont really have to farm anything specific unless you want to be super optimal
this is wrong and retarded
there is no reason to use cane on an arcane build and literally no reason ever, whatsoever to use rifle spear in general, especially on an arcane build
flamethrower is ok but since it cant be gemmed it falls off incredibly hard and is kind of a waste of blood stones since you should be upgrading your primary first, and a secondary like tonitrus second

Retard

the real answer is do a split
there's a bunch of low cap strength weapons that can get you far and you can pump arcane to use tools as you aquire them
then when you hit endgame you have your pick of some of the best weapons in the game, like pic related

BLT is basically ARC's advantage of range except you're not stuck with low VIT

no don't do this, holy moonlight sword is entirely underwhelming for pure ARC

I'm a rather seasoned gamer, and love a good challenge. I hate when games are hand-holdy and let you somehow get away with challenges after a few tries. I generally play games on whatever the step is above normal (sometimes hard sometimes games have two ranks higher than normal, but I'm better than average in general but not amazing). I bought this today on a whim.

Three hours of playing (not including my character design). And I am still stuck at, seemingly, the first area that leads to the first boss. I thoroughly understand the (albeit) clunky controls, healing process, weapons holsters and the basics of combat and feel in any other game I would have what I would consider a pretty solid understanding of how the game works. Hell, I even felt I was getting decent at the game for a bit and then BAM dead for 200th time on "chapter" one. The checkpoints system is idiotic to me. There is a line between challenging and downright obnoxious and off-putting for anyone that has any sort of real life obligations besides gaming.

"It's so rewarding to pass a hard part/boss" Bullshit. By that time if I hadn't beaten it, my foot would be through the tv. I heard the game was hard (and yes I'm a dark souls noob) but damn I just don't see the fun in making it through 30 mins of gameplay with hard combat and getting zero reward of a checkpoint or anything. And no pause screen? Really? What does that prove or achieve. Wow your'e so skilled at gaming you don't even need to stop the game to pee or run to the store or, idk, have a life. If you like that, you're crazy or have much more free time than I do to dedicate to rekilling the same 50 enemies I've killed to get to the one I'm actually having trouble with that's 20 minutes away from me now. This is going back to game stop tomorrow.

that's why he said to do a split

instant death l2 says otherwise

Surprisingly the Kirkhammer has one of the best Arcane scaling and you can get it pretty early

...

this is bait but
>hard combat
kek

dodge and poke is only as hard as your greed

Landing a fully charged hit in pvp is fucking amazing

Quick, post hunters

First gem you can get is the one guarded by a Mindflayer in the area below and at the very bottom of the workshop. Use it with Cleaver or Spear until you get a weapon you like.

Get the Tonitrus from Hypogean Gaol.

There. You're set for the rest of the game. Do chalices for better gems. You want shock on your Tonitrus, and Fire on whatever serrated weapon you end up using. Don't forget about Hunter Tools. Pump arc to 60.

Arcane is the most OP fucking build. It's really fucking good.

...

>that little bit at the top of the tendril that they weighed to the animation and never fixed

STR/ARC knightfag reporting in.

When the fuck is Bloodborne getting a pro patch?

It's been confirmed to not, but boost mode stabilizes the framerate on it.

Cuck

Is there a gem more worthless than this one?

Does this door open?
youtu.be/T0vl3O-5iSs

the names kind of a giveaway

it links to the one by the cleric beast but for some reason isn't actually used
maybe a worldspace render performance thing

Well yeah, but I was asking if there was one that was somehow more useless than that.

I've opened it before but it's not a useful shortcut. It's a super obscure area that has nothing in it and doesn't even work well as a shortcut.

I find the Bloodletter much more fitting for a knight than the Chikage. Mace that turns into a monstrous Halberd? C'mon, that's way more fitting.

I dunno, I like the HMGS/Church Pick thing I got going one. Feels great. The only thing I dislike is that offhands are useless really. I just use the torch/magic shield for aesthetics

How do you open it?

Isn't the key located in Micolash's fight area?

From the other side iirc. I remember opening a door and walking to a hallway with that open chest and being like "well fuck that's the wrong way"

What key?

K

Good job Joaquin.

I deserve that.

It's okay, I've done it before.

You can't open it in the released version of the game, period.

Just rely on the raw damage of any weapon while upgrading Arcane until you beat gascoine, Then go and pick up the FireSprayer from the dude in the beginning.
Just keep relying on the raw damage until you beat Blood starved beast and then go through some chalices until you get any elemental gem.

Yeah, typically the first arcane gem you'll get is near the brainsucker in the catherdral ward after taking the path through the healing church workshop.

>Want to do a beast claw run
>Have to run through 400 chalices just to get the basic version
WHY ISNT IT JUST IN THE MAIN GAME FUCK

Is this one of those games where passive elemental effects don't show when you do damage? or will they spark/burn/whatever when i hit them with an elemental gem weapon

>or will they spark/burn/whatever when i hit them with an elemental gem weapon
This

Go heavy into arcane early. Buy lots of molotovs and oil urns before they become too expensive. Rush hemwick to get ex gloves.

Thats a beaitful WebM

>go into DLC area for the first time
>enemy hunters everywhere
>extendable fucking swords
>finally make some progress and enter a dark cave full of blood
>BSB leaps out of nowhere
