Either way everyone is going to hate it, because it's not what people wanted. They didn't want a re-imagined episodic adaptation. They wanted the same game with modern graphics and audio. No matter what SE does with it, it's going to be wrong in the eyes of FFVII's rabid fanbase and they will claim their sacred cow has been slaughtered.

It'll come out on next gen consoles. They'll probably reverse the decision for it to be episodic as well. There's simply not enough content to justify bloating the game out from 40 hours to 120 hours

I think it will come out, but its going to be real hard to make it good and the episode idea won't work well with an open world like it was because most of it would need to be done up front. Maybe that is why its taking so long.

Lots of people consider XV to be brilliant in many ways, but that's just old fans coping with how Square is now. They completely forgot how to make a compelling game world and now just make what the money wants.

I just started FFVII and got Vincent in my party. The more I play this game, the more I think it can't be remade properly, or how much the remake is going to be butchered (censorship, redesigning Tifa, the wackiness of the game etc).

But hey, judging by the Dissidia NT story cutscenes, Cloud actually smiles and seems happy. So that's a good sign at least. I think the big problem is that his English voice actor makes him sound even more like an emo. His Japanese VA has charisma.

It's not even a feeling. It's a fact. Just look at SE's track record. XV was in development for how long? They've been radio silent on this game for two years after showing about a minute of game footage. Then the weird comments about the game only being partially complete, not to mention the episodic nature. They've set themselves up for failure.

Assuming it even releases its going to be a PS5 game at least. It ain't releasing for like another 8 years minimum.

To me he just sounds bored, not even emo. His VA was alright in a couple scenes in Crisis Core but in 99% of scenes he just sounds so bored. How can you play such a famous and influential character and be so dull sounding? Even the VA for Sephiroth has grown on me over time from his first appearance in Advent Children but Cloud's fucking kills me.

It will, I think Square is out of it's weird phase.

I take other issues with it though,

1) fuck Square for constantly porting and remaking FF 1-4, and just completely ignoring 5 and 6 beyond the GBA ports. I would have at least loved to see 5 and 6 redone like the PSP version of 4.

2) While I'm still curious to see how its divided, episodic just feels like a massive oversight as far as what fans want from this game. I don't see ANY way that that kind of distribution for the game could net them positive reviews or criticism. There's just a certain point where, with remakes, you don't need to change up the game/gameplay/aesthetics too much. Sometimes, all people want is a graphical update. Look at the OoT and Majoras Mask remakes on 3DS, sure they aren't in HD but those take the old games, give them a fresh coat of paint and keep everything more or less the same. There's some very tiny bells and whistles added like boss rush mode and master quest but its just a graphical update to OoT and MM, that's it, its all it needed to be, they sold great.

FF7 doesn't need a different battle system and doesn't need to be in episodes. I don't care how much Square is trying to be progressive, they are set to just anger more fans than satisfying them. FF7 was the first normie JPRG, no matter how good it is, it was the one that way more people tried for the first time and learned to love it, to change such a timeless game in areas that don't need change is just pure folly

I really hope its good, I'm generally very positive when waiting for games but I feel super uneasy about this

Grinding hasn't been a mandatory thing in most jrpg's since sometime during the SNES era. Hell, if you fight all of the encounters you get along the way without taking any extra time out for the express purpose of grinding there's a good chance you'll be overleveled for whatever you're doing. Grinding is either a requirement for endgame super-bosses (in which case you're milking the game for all the play-time it's worth anyhow) or a brute force option for people who are shit at the game, which hardly seems like a bad thing.

No I know, regardless of their goals theres just not a scenario where I currently see the game living up to its legacy. Remember how good of a game HITMAN(™) was, even with being episodic? Do you really, REALLY think it'd be possible to make the entirety of VII, 100% with modern graphics? Sure, if you want to cut corners here and there and have half the content the original title had. At the end of the day, you want the entire game, episodic 60 hour 'games' is the way to go, it's not like you're getting a Telltale game ffs
