It's a fine play. Not spectacular but fine. Tales in general is mediocre to average.

story's fun- I liked how the protagonists interacted with each other
gameplay ranges from decent to disappointing, and level design outside of towns can be downright dismal (don't expect dungeons to be engaging outside of 1-2 instances)

one of the better games in the series

gameplay is fun and keeps evolving 'till the end (and beyond)
story is a little different to the typical jrpg shit. the plot is actually hyper-focused which is nice. you don't get eaten by a fucking turtle for an entire chapter
cast is all amazing, 10/10 all around

it would be a bit weird as your first game because a lot of the ideas in it play off of previous games. the plot is especially all about subverting what you'd expect in a tales game.

The plot is the same as Phntasia the first game in the series.

The gameplay is very forgiving and easy to get into, so it's probably a fine place to start. If it's on a decent sale I would go for it, not at full price though.

It’s pretty fun and a decent entry to the series but try giving vesperia a play after.

Pros:
-battle is fun trying to get +100 hit combos can be addicting
-jrpg charcters that aren’t awful (at least better than anything star ocean ever shit out)

Cons:
-a lot of dlc locked costumes killed one of the cool parts of the tales of series

-lack luster dungeons

berseria is nothing like it other than superficial jrpg similarities

If there is any one thing I think Zesty has over Berseria, it's the OP. I think Berseria's OP is baller as fuck too

Zest had an amazing end in my opinion. Lots of different feels from the start of the last boss until the end.

Revenge plot = Pantasia
Female MC = Xillia
Antihero MC = Vesperia
Villain wants to get rid of emotions after his family dies = Symphomia
Sacrifice ending = Xillia 2, Zestiria

So tell me what it subverted for the series

Finally. People call me a moron when I point this out.

It manages to salvage the world and lore of Zestiria, the main cast are likeable, only downside is it looks like a pretty mediocre PS3 game visually. (I thought Xillia 2 looked miles better than this.)

Gameplay is good, story is serviceable, cutscenes actually have emotion in them. The english dub is not half bad. You'll be tripped up by the dub thinking it's shit because Velvet's VA has a "happy" voice in the prologue that sounds completely different from how she sounds in the rest of the game.

Abyss Vesperia Graces Berseria all have good multiplayer, no camera issues and all players access all optioms

I think all Tales games are better as actual tv shows and I'm waiting the Berseria anime

The game is terrible compared to previous entries of tales games in terms of story, art direction, level and dungeon design and combat design. They only thing is has going for it is the edgy dark characters and the dark theme.

It's pretty gud actually. Combat is neat once you understand the rules, characters and dialogues are top-notch, plot is pretty generic.
The biggest issue I had with it is how repetitive it can be and how much runnind around you have to do in 70+ hours of gameplay. Also gear system is retarded and UI is garbage. Overall I enjoyed it quite a lot, party banters save this game more often than not.

It's a damn good game. I thought it would be cringy and horrible, considering the shitstorm on Sup Forums. Glad to know it's just nostaliga/NEVER EVER-fags raging against the machine.

Surprisingly, the dub was actually good... in parts. Kamoana and Rokurou can piss off, but Eizen, Magilou, and Velvet are voiced exceptionally well, and not just for an English dub. They're legitimately good. Hell, for me, it's tied with Xenoblade Chronicles and Dragon Ball Z for the best English dub in existence.

Kamoana has like a total of 50 voiced lines in the entire game, and only 45/50 are eargrating. Eizen's dub voice is equivalent to English Goku in terms of improvement over the original source material.

Besides, you can choose the language at the beginning of the game. If you want to switch back to Japanese, you can just restart it and switch to Japanese for the Kamoana segments.
