Why didn't this doofus drink the estus flasks he had on him instead of giving it all to someone armed with a wooden club?

Why did your mom drink the alcohol during her pregnancy instead of giving it to the hobo that banged her?

Commies get the fuck off my Sup Forums

Sup Forums is just like feminists, just interpreting the ever living shit out of everything to make it politics related, just waiting to get triggered

Kinda like how you just brought up Sup Forums for no reason?

He knows that you’re the Chosen Undead. Plus he already failed in his mission so that explains why he hands you an estus flask and the key.

We don’t really know what his mission was, but digging through cut content, his original purpose was to oppose you at the end, regardless of whether or not you linked the flame.

Commies wouldn't have homeless LMAO BTFO

Maybe he didn't want to live anymore?

>He knows that you’re the Chosen Undead.
The chosen undead prophecy is a ruse. He couldn't have known shit because there's nothing to suggest you won't just hollow out like the rest at that point. The more logical explanation is that he got brain damage from getting smashed in through a goddamn ceiling and wasn't thinking clearly.

Maybe he knew that he had died enough times and that he would be going hollow any time and most he could do to help was to give away his estus.

he was probably ready to just give up and go hollow so he gave the estus to someone who could potentially go all the way

maybe because he's amaze that you managed to get there with a wooden mace and he thought maybe you're the one who can defeat the ass demon

I always wondered why didnt he become an enemy after you hear his death animation after stepping away? It would have made a lot of sense considering what we know about the universe and hollowing. He just kinda vanishes and stays dead. Isn't the curse supposed to prevent you from actually truly dying or something?

If only you knew what irony meant.

Did you never go back?

wait you're right he totally did. Who am I thinking of then? I know somebody willingly dies but you dont fight them ever. Who the fuck is it?

because everyone's standard of living will only one small step above the homeless.

he does turn into an enemy if you ride the bird back to the asylum

DaS3>DaS1

>to someone armed with a wooden club?
Who the fuck plays as deprived

>there are faggots that don't actually choose deprived
I pity you

>Drink his 5 estus flasks
>Dies later
>Still turns hollow because he was already on borrowed time.
He gave them to you because he knew he was at the end of his rope. He fucking tells you this.

Because he's the result of a dropped plot thread where you'd encounter him at various points in the game, culminating with him siding with the opposite serpent that you did.

>Still turns hollow because he was already on borrowed time.
How does he even hollow? You only hollow when you lose your purpose, did he just give the fuck up?

>Oscar could have been the final boss, before they cut it out of the game

Thoughts?

youtu.be/A0Z9UdexxG0?t=2m26s

If only oscar could see this thread, but he can't cause he's dead like seamus's channel

You might not be thinking of DaS1, because I can't think of that.

Final boss? I'm pretty sure he'd be before Gwyn. Speaking of which, MIyazaki has gone on record to state that he initially envisioned Gwyn fighting us with a shield.

>did he just give the fuck up?
He believed he would be the hero that broke free from the asylum and cure the curse or whatever. He encountered the first boss and got fucking annihilated. He probably thought it wasn't possible and realize his destiny was nothing more than delusions of grandeur.

So yeah, he was probably feeling hopeless.

Maybe he was an acutal human and no undead?
Estus only works on undead.

>You only hollow when you lose your purpose
[citation needed]

holy fuck , the dark souls plot is ripped right out of final fantasy 13.

>Full Elite Knight Armor +6
>Astora's Straight Sword +8
>Crest Shield +5
>Dies to the easiest boss in the series.

The whole Dark Souls series, should I paraphrase the whole hollowing concept to you or what?

why shouldn't I hang myself right now?

Deprived is unironically the best way to start.

Pretty sure you have to be undead to reach the undead asylum.

He comes back as hollow when you return to the asylum.

restate the part of any of the games where it says you hollow after "losing your purpose"

The only reason the first boss is so easy is because Oscar weakened the fuck out of him prior to the chosen undead encountering him.

I think the whole point was that he gave up

not him, but solaire hollows out when he realizes he'll never find his own sun.

>the right knee clipping

>Seigmeyer: Human
>Loses his honor
>Seigmeyer: Hollow
>Reah of Thorolund: Human
>"I would be most pleased if you would buy my miracles"
>Buy all her miracles
>Reah of Thorolund: Hollow
>Lapp: Hollow
>Remember's he's Patches and he loves kicking people off cliffs
>Patches: Human

It's pretty fucking obvious.

Doesn't Rhea gets kidnapped by Seath's channelers, then hollows in in the Archives?

Patches is the best character in Souls. Literally keeping himself from hollowing by messing with other hollows. Genius.

that's the magician man
something with a L...

If I recall correctly she leaves after buying her miracles on her own. When exactly she hollows isn't clear but it was either before or after she was captured, yeah.

BIG
HAT

Nono, Big Hat Logan goes hollow in the Archives but he went there on his own.

Lothric?

Happens to Logan and Rhea.
Not sure if Logan actually goes hollow, or if the crystal knowledge just drives him insane, since he still looks human when you fight him in Seath's room (everyone else who goes hollow has a hollow skin).

Reah gets murdered.

Large Hat Luke

oh right, because you find her garbs there.
it's been so long...

Only if you didn't kill Petrus. Or if you don't buy all of her miracles within 2 boss fights.

Oh that's right. His dialogue gets crazier the more you talk to him, implying he's going insane with knowledge.
>Reah gets murdered.
Only if you do not kill Petrus.
>Or if you don't buy all of her miracles within 2 boss fights.
Are you sure? I always kill Petrus and never buy Rhea's miracles and she stays in the Parish forever.

does logan have the plainest name in the series?

Oscar is pretty plain too.

That's because that was an "Or" not an "and"
Petrus is the murderer. If you kill him you have an endless amount of time. If you do not you have 2 boss fights.

Literally only poltards talk or care about imaginary communists you nerd

More evidence of him going crazy instead of hollowing: When you fight him, he isn't wearing any fucking pants.

Yet he keeps his hat on. Which means he took off his hat, then his tunic, then put his hat back on.

He gave up and just decided to watch the ending on youtube

I expected "Barbarian Bob" and "Fighter Frank" after him.

maybe it was taking off his hat that made him insane.

Losing hope = crestfallen
Losing purpose = forlorn

Dying while forlorn or crestfallen= instant hollow

What killed Oscar? He should have just stayed there as crestfallen.

Could a fully hollowed guy, like one of the warriors in Undead Burg, find purpose again and regain his humanity?

>What killed Oscar?
Dropped plot threads.

Still wouldn't be homeless

Why did he even care about dying if he's immortal and will just come back at a bonfire?

i fucking hate armorer dennis

He got smashed through the roof by a giant demon, then gave away his only healing item to some naked berk with a stick.

THE CRIMSON GOD

>fully hollowed
Probably not, hollowing is considered death in this game in a way, so I don't think you can go back after reaching full hollow, but those hollow merchant's might have something going for them.

He was clearly lying there dying of his wounds, dude. When you finish talking to him and then walk away he fucking dies.

Patches in ACVI to betray you mid mission when

Fencer Sharron is worse desu.
But no one can beat pic related. Fuck this cunt.

Hey, an actual videogame thread on Sup Forums!
Oh nevermind then.

didnt DS1 come out first? or is XIII older than I think? I thought DS1 was like 2010 or so but XIII was like 2012

im not familiar with DS because I don't have a good PC or PS3, i thought being hollowed is the death state that you enter when you die in-game and have to run back to collect your shit

like doesnt the player character get hollowed every time you die, then un-hollowed after you beat a boss or collect enough phat lewts back from where you died or something?

is it ever implied that oscar has the darksign (and therefore come back like Chosen Undead)?

Every Undead has a darksign, and it's assumed Oscar turned Undead in order to gain access to the Asylum.

The fact that he comes back as a hollow?

I'm not even gonna need my tools for this one.

r-right. of course.

DaS is 2011. You become "hollow" after you die if you were human, yes. But when you hollow, you just lose the ability to play online and a few other things. When other people hollow, they're fucked for good because gameplay and story segregation.
>then un-hollowed after you beat a boss or collect enough phat lewts back from where you died or something?
You turn human after defeating a boss only in Demon's Souls. In Dark Souls you have to burn humanity.

>I don't have a good PC
A fucking toaster can handle DaS

Oscar is definitely Undead, that's why he's at the asylum and talks about the prophecy in the first place. He must've thought he was the chosen undead but since he was dying he gave his duty off to you.
Though Dark Souls has always been weird about how respawning at the bonfire works for things that aren't the player, especially NPCs. Every NPC you see die stays dead, but the "meta" reason for all the enemies coming back when you rest at a bonfire is that they respawned too. I don't fucking know man, time is convoluted or something.

The way I see, you can look hollow without actually being hollow, example the undead merchants.
The player on truly hollows in the same way as, for example, a Balder Knight in the Parish, when he gives up and deletes the character/never starts the save again.

Oh right I forgot about them. Also add Lenigrast from DSII, who is clearly hollow in his skin, but not mind.

Actually, it can't.
DaS1 PC version runs like shit on old PCs, DaS2 runs much better.

it seems like the cosmology of the setting is not very well explained and unlike Ico or SotC it's not trying to be mysterious and actually just doesn't really care because it's about slaying giants first and advancing a plot like nineteenth

Are you, by any chance hating on, based Maldron?

>it's not trying to be mysterious and actually just doesn't really care because it's about slaying giants first and advancing a plot like nineteenth
That's a bit of a simplification. Dark Souls has a lot of things going on. Not fanfiction tier shit, just a lot of shit that you uncover about the game's world, motivations of characters, etc. via dialogue and item descriptions. The reason these games have survived this long isn't just because of their difficulty. It's a synthesis of the weighty combat, the art direction, and the fact that there is actual depth to the world you're exploring.

A long while back there used to be an user who'd shit post about a game called Severance: Blade Of Darkness. How Dark Souls is an inferior game to it. Then they'd post webms of really slick looking combat. The thing user probably never realized is that Dark Souls is more than just about killing enemies. It's how the enemies became enemies, and why. (Though other times like basilisk they're just cool to fight).

i think because he's a character in the world and not a player character estus flasks aren't health potions for him, so he can't just like drink and and get hp because he doesn't have a hp bar because he's just a guy

idk man ive met a lot of souls fans and none of them have ever gone on about the lore, it's always about the combat and pvp

in fact it has the same shitty over the top kind of nonsense plot as every other japanese game, and it's only good because it's all obscure, otherwise it'd be like final fantasy 13 confusing

>get invaded in parish NG+
>while gravelorded
>cast rapport on dark phantom Berenike knight
>invader tries to gang up and gets fucked up
Why doesn't anyone do this?

Then you simply don't browse the internet a lot. Pic related is from 2013.
>in fact it has the same shitty over the top kind of nonsense plot as every other japanese game
Yeah I remember when the final boss of Dark Souls turned out to be a United States senator. Yeah, man. Yeah.

It's like how Lutatiel gives you a human effigy not knowing it's what would prevent her from going hollow.

And yet the hollow soldiers trashmobs do.
