You've got it wrong. The game is a full-fledged RTS which has the first mission or two spent in a C&C Commando mission-esque way.
The game is as much of a hack and slash game as C&C is an action RPG.

I was in the same boat, I like how the lead up to the boss has some of the guitar from the outro & the faded vocals. Came off as super spoopy.
