>Sup Forums tells me overwatch is for normie casualfags >user claims he gave it a shot and immediately went grandmaster and raped normies >give it a try because I'm devilish (and tired of always getting my ass kicked in shooters) >... >stuck in silver >can't progress at all >objectively the reason my team loses in most games
I just went an entire game where I did exactly 88 damage as Mei. 88 damage. I might as well not have played.
I'm not a casual gamer. I play mainly strategy games on the hardest difficulties. I breeze through (j)rpgs. So why can't I into shooters?! Why is even the easiest shooter raping me?! WHATS WRONG WITH ME?!!!!
it's okay to be bad at shitty games because you're not really losing anything other than time you could be spending on strategy games
Camden Reyes
That's impressively awful, user.
James Stewart
Shooters are about your skill with a mouse. You need to be able to land headshots consistently or be able to use your character well even when it's disadvantaged. This accounts for all shooting games.
Just practice. Get a better mousepad or get more space so you can comfortably perform. Get a mouse and/or settings you feel precise with. And then practice some more.
Luke Sullivan
Mei is one of the worst characters in the game and you're likely not switching to adapt to your own team and the enemy team.
Julian Gray
>I breeze through jrpgs Well yeah, success in 9/10 jrpg games are based on time invested, not skill. You could be braindead but if you grind enough you'll beat every encounter.
Jack Long
practice aim in other shooters. see, you play strategy games on hard and it's fine, but it does not help in twitch shooters where decisions are less strategic/tactical and more minute/atomic, you know? as quakefags say, youtube.com/watch?v=SlCRfTmBSGs
Carter Hernandez
That doesn't make sense. How can you be bad at only one type of game? That sounds like an excuse.
Parker Gutierrez
>I need practice is an excuse Okay then
Evan Sanchez
First you must accept that Pharah is best girl.
Cooper Howard
There's no substitute to aim though. Only in Overwatch can you climb without ever pulling out your caduceus blaster (or whatever it's called) on Mercy, for example.
Carter Torres
I've played shooters for over 20 years and I'm stuck in bronze. I don't really mind it, though.
Tyler King
overwatch is kind of a shitty example though, it's too team and ability based in my opinion. a really good player doesn't have a lot of oppertunity to really wipe the floor with everyone.
being able to get headshots is important but a huge part of it is map awareness, if you know where the enemy is going to be it's a lot easier.
Noah Morris
>a really good player doesn't have a lot of oppertunity to really wipe the floor with everyone.
Michael Cruz
>I just went an entire game where I did exactly 88 damage as Mei. I refuse to believe this. You can't be this much of a shitter.
Juan Nelson
Try playing pharah, it's how i got to gm my first season
Logan Carter
>How can you be bad at only one type of game? same way you can be bad at one type of sports: you can be a good athlete and run well, but once you need to kick a ball into a goal you'll be screwed. >"[just practice]" sounds like an excuse well it's not. when you can't land a pass in football you practice them. when you can't hit a ball with a bat you practice it..
Tyler Ross
>That doesn't make sense. How can you be bad at only one type of game? Are swimmers great at football?
Jace Taylor
not as much as in REAL shooters like counterstrike.
Adam Barnes
But you're just as limited in either game.
Julian Ramirez
>But I'm good at menu games, why cant I automatically be good at twitch reaction games? The skill of strategy games and Jrpgs isnt transferable to shooters dumdum. Also RPGs in general are all pretty minimalskill required.
Nathan Watson
no you're not fuckhead, someone with incredible skill can do way more damage in a game like counterstrike than in a game like overwatch.
Christopher Gomez
>How can you be bad at only one type of game? Usain Bolt could never win a marathon.
Brandon Reed
Mei hasn't been good in a long time, she is countered by both teamwork and knowing how her kit works, so unless you play against literal retards she wont do anything
Andrew Russell
This isn't true up until you hit like, Plat. Getting out of Silver is entirely about positioning.
Benjamin Morgan
>singleplayer strategy games >JRPGs You've been playing on a difficulty level below what any word could accurately describe.
It doesn't matter how many retards call a particular FPS "casual" and it doesn't matter that it is even an FPS; you are playing against other people. Playing against a fucking 13 year old screwing around on COD is going to be a bigger challenge than any JRPG on the simple merit that you are playing against another human.
Elijah Watson
you might have potential as an FPS player, but you most likely are doing it wrong
things i wager you're fucking up
>your sensitivity is too high >your mousepad is too small >your mouse doesn't fit your hand >your framerate is too low >you haven't figured out how to twitch aim yet (granted takes a lot of practice)
and most of all
>you aren't an FPS veteran
Cameron Harris
This. If you're under Plat it's because you're doing doing something wrong that isn't necessarily aim related, like not using counters or not completing the objective.
Lucas Cooper
Probably just silver tier for FPSes then. I doubt Sup Forums is anywhere close to Grandmaster anyways imao.
Thing about OW's ranked system is that unless you're cream of the crop who plays the game for the living, like the people who record them going from bronze to GM, most people have their own individual hard cap that's pretty impossible to go through. You can't get good just playing against players of similar skill, you need to play against players/teams that are better than you. Pubstars are called pubstars for a reason, similarly you aren't going to be the best in OW unless you're already at that level or you setup practice matches. The biggest reason as to why OW players are perpetually mad is because Blizzard keeps patting your bumbums and telling you that you're a good player but the way the ranked system works never really gives you a chance to get better. Unless you're actually good, you'll be like 95% of OW players who bitch and whine about muh teammates or muh real rank or muh forced 50%.
So if you're silver, probably just stay there. It's less stressful if you just try and perform as well as you can in ranked match and not care about your rank, maybe just do unranked games. Trying to progress in OW's ranked system without being top-tier is just smashing your head against a wall over and over again.

>I'm not immediately good at something that must mean I'm just no talented, practice? That's just an excuse Failure at life detected.
Ryan Brooks
>stuck in silver >can't progress at all >objectively the reason my team loses in most games
It is so fucking FUN.
Hudson Rivera
>Thing about OW's ranked system is that unless you're cream of the crop who plays the game for the living, like the people who record them going from bronze to GM, most people have their own individual hard cap that's pretty impossible to go through
partially true. it's easy to stagnate as a player, but that doesn't mean you can't improve after that. it just means you have to take greater measures to improve yourself, like doing separate twitch aim training or watching your replays. if you stagnate at something like silver, it's more likely the problem is psychological, like dunning krueger. it is extremely difficult to improve at a game if you do not acknowledge your own mistakes, and almost everyone in overwatch tends to ignore their own mistakes and blame others instead. now, related to this:
>OW players are perpetually mad is because Blizzard keeps patting your bumbums and telling you that you're a good player
untrue. the biggest reason as to why OW players are mad is because they don't feel like they're ever in control of the game. 6 person teams in a HIGHLY teamplay-based game is a horrible, horrible setting for an individual player to shine. the best players in the world sometimes can't win against an equally skilled team if their support mercy main just happens to be having a bad day. that doesn't mean you CAN'T improve or go up in MMR, it just means it takes ages and your personal impact on the game is very small, even if you're much better than the average player in your bracket. you can see many pros start to struggle at diamond in their "bronze to gm" climb because diamond players just love to throw games at a whim and make them unwinnable. that, in turn, means that the pro player's winrate drops to about 55% from 75% or whatever it is prior to that.
>So if you're silver, probably just stay there
horrible defeatist attitude, although it's true that climbing mmr is like smashing your head against a wall
Lincoln Watson
>waaah I should be playing like David Gilmore the second I pick up a guitar, it's not fair child
Juan Martin
why is everyone taking this comment serious, i wouldn't even call it bait.
are you all retarded
Nolan Davis
People shit on Hanzo, but it's Widowmaker's fault for being so damn boring that people choose him over her. Hanzo's gimmicks are much more interesting, plus his wall climb doesn't have a 12 second cooldown like Widow's grapple gun.
Justin Harris
>if you stagnate at something like silver, it's more likely the problem is psychological
i should have clarified that it's actually probably related to your basic mechanics, not your physical limitations. see this list: the dunning krueger really only starts fucking with your head at gold/plat when you realize you aren't half-bad (but you're still quarter-bad)
Easton Hill
he also doesnt have a scope as a sniper so hes useless beyond random scatters
Caleb Edwards
At the ranges you engage in in Overwatch that's rarely a problem for him. The hitboxes for his arrows are also really big to compensate for it.
Asher Cook
OP just play Mercy
it's literally how most people here can claim to reach GM so effortlessly
Colton Thompson
>>user claims he gave it a shot and immediately went grandmaster and raped normies
yeah, sure believe his lies
Charles Nelson
>people believe Symmetra is situational and mostly useless >people complain how OP she is
>people complain Hanzo is worthless and throw the game if he's used >people complain how OP he is
What did OW fags mean by this? Are they retarded?
Andrew Lewis
yes another mercy main with a massively inflated sense of self worth is just what we need
it's actually hilarious
>gm DPS player >veteran of FPS games, having played arena shooters his whole life prior to overwatch, now in overwatch for variety's sake >has a state of the art PC to guarantee solid 144 FPS for his 144 HZ monitor and uses a 100 dollar mouse perfectly suited for his 18.5 cm hand with claw grip to maximize his chance for twitch headshots >begins an overwatch session with a cup of coffee to sharpen his reactions and some carbohydrates to stabilize his blood sugar levels, then practices 30 minutes in practice mode before queueing
>gm mercy main >has been playing LoL and WoW his whole life, now playing overwatch because it's popular >plays the game on his brother's old laptop at a solid 25-30 FPS using a 9 dollar mouse and a hillary election campaign pamphlet as his mousepad >queues for ranked overwatch while his boyfriends refractory period ends >however, is in possession of the most powerful artifact an overwatch player can have, which is a reddit account that he can use to demand nerfs for flankers and buffs for his own hero
Noah Torres
>obvious Mercy main joins >It's a girl who keeps passive aggressively spamming "we need to take the point"
Ryan Peterson
>people get their asses kicked by X >old times: man, i really need to know how to properly counter this X, else i'll get outplayed every time. better go to solo offline play ant practice >new times: FUCKING SHIT IMBA WHY IS X SO GODDAMNDAED OVERPOWERED BULLSHIT HWATAFUCK REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe
what did the players mean by this? are they retarded
William Murphy
>overwatch players are all the same person
Hudson Parker
This isn't the kind of shit people should have divided opinions about you fag.
Either Hanzo is completely fine being used or he's not. That fact that OW players don't even know for sure makes them look retarded.
Charles Robinson
I reached gold and doubt I'll ever get out of it. Not only am I not an amazing "mlg" player, but I have no group to consistently play with. It's like there's no middle ground either. Random quick play is just morons running around as Hanzo/Genji/Widow doing nothing. Competitive is Hanzo/Genji/Widow obliterating everything.
So if you just want a team that at least gets the gist of what to do and watches each others back, good luck. None of my pals play it except one. Neither of us play it seriously and just want grouped with other competent folks.
Caleb Martinez
Hanzo and Genji are both fucking bullshit. Hanzo because he can one shot most of the cast every ten seconds, and Genji because he's an annoying unfun piece of shit to deal with. Unless you play a few select characters you just can't attack him period unless his deflect is down. Once it's down, dash through, jump twice, repeat. People complain about Junkrat when he's nothing compared to Genjis bullshit.
Matthew Torres
I got back into Overwatch recently after quitting after I hit Diamond in ranked and I think I am done again because of Mercy. The combination of high healing compared to every other support, undoing picks every 20 seconds (or whatever the cooldown on that thing is) along with how stupid simple it is to reach the maximum potential as her has me extremely salty.
Benjamin Ortiz
>Hanzo can one-shot most of the cast every ten seconds >team mates threaten to throw if you use him
Gabriel Bailey
Very, very good....HOWEVER Orisa is actually best girl
Elijah Murphy
Because people suck at aiming. A bad Widow is useless. You shouldn't balance a character around bad players though. What could they do to tweak Hanzos multishot to not be bullshit?
Evan Morgan
This is now a Mei thread. Op also needs to get gud
Parker Garcia
Does anyone else enjoy Moira? Her dash is pretty neat and you can cover some mean distance if you time your jump right.
Jonathan Harris
Patrician af
Gavin Russell
maybe .05% are good enough with widow to warrant a pick, shes high skill to beat out the option of picking a much easier but higher dmg output dps. My problem is with every jackass thinking that he must go widow and be useless. Where as they could possibly get a kill or two with junk or 76, with a widow pick they are inherently useless and fucking the team in the ass.
And whomever keeps thinking that the perfect counter to the other teams widow is a another goddamn widow should be gassed, its not a fucking counter.
Isaiah Barnes
>Keeping barrier up as Orisa >People wonder why Widow picks them off when they move in front of my shield
I will never understand this game or the people who play it
Lincoln Sullivan
>user claims he gave it a shot and immediately went grandmaster and raped normies >ever trusting anything people say here Full fucking retarded mate everything this board says is wrong and Sup Forums sucks at mp games. Imagine those shitter were stuck on NK for weeks.
Ian Campbell
I swear some people pick characters because the character in the right hands is crazy, but aren't crazy themselves. I like Junkrats play style even before he had two mines and people bitched he became OP. I use him as often as I can. How well I do depends on if my team is doing well together, period. If they die and no keeping enemies at bay, I'm fucked. If the team works well together I get to be ballsy and try different things or be more aggressive. I'm never sure if I'm doing well or getting better as him due to a lot of people not seeming to care about objectives or teamwork.
Don't get me wrong either. I'll change out of Junkrat to something else if it seems like it'll help. I usually Rein on payload maps. Lucio or Zen depending if needed. Soldier 76 if we need more damage.
