I just went an entire game where I did exactly 88 damage as Mei. 88 damage. I might as well not have played.

I'm not a casual gamer. I play mainly strategy games on the hardest difficulties. I breeze through (j)rpgs. So why can't I into shooters?! Why is even the easiest shooter raping me?! WHATS WRONG WITH ME?!!!!

Shooters are about your skill with a mouse. You need to be able to land headshots consistently or be able to use your character well even when it's disadvantaged. This accounts for all shooting games.

Just practice. Get a better mousepad or get more space so you can comfortably perform. Get a mouse and/or settings you feel precise with. And then practice some more.

Mei is one of the worst characters in the game and you're likely not switching to adapt to your own team and the enemy team.

There's no substitute to aim though. Only in Overwatch can you climb without ever pulling out your caduceus blaster (or whatever it's called) on Mercy, for example.

I've played shooters for over 20 years and I'm stuck in bronze. I don't really mind it, though.

overwatch is kind of a shitty example though, it's too team and ability based in my opinion. a really good player doesn't have a lot of oppertunity to really wipe the floor with everyone.

being able to get headshots is important but a huge part of it is map awareness, if you know where the enemy is going to be it's a lot easier.

You've been playing on a difficulty level below what any word could accurately describe.

It doesn't matter how many retards call a particular FPS "casual" and it doesn't matter that it is even an FPS; you are playing against other people. Playing against a fucking 13 year old screwing around on COD is going to be a bigger challenge than any JRPG on the simple merit that you are playing against another human.

Thing about OW's ranked system is that unless you're cream of the crop who plays the game for the living, like the people who record them going from bronze to GM, most people have their own individual hard cap that's pretty impossible to go through. You can't get good just playing against players of similar skill, you need to play against players/teams that are better than you. Pubstars are called pubstars for a reason, similarly you aren't going to be the best in OW unless you're already at that level or you setup practice matches. The biggest reason as to why OW players are perpetually mad is because Blizzard keeps patting your bumbums and telling you that you're a good player but the way the ranked system works never really gives you a chance to get better. Unless you're actually good, you'll be like 95% of OW players who bitch and whine about muh teammates or muh real rank or muh forced 50%.

So if you're silver, probably just stay there. It's less stressful if you just try and perform as well as you can in ranked match and not care about your rank, maybe just do unranked games. Trying to progress in OW's ranked system without being top-tier is just smashing your head against a wall over and over again.

partially true. it's easy to stagnate as a player, but that doesn't mean you can't improve after that. it just means you have to take greater measures to improve yourself, like doing separate twitch aim training or watching your replays. if you stagnate at something like silver, it's more likely the problem is psychological, like dunning krueger. it is extremely difficult to improve at a game if you do not acknowledge your own mistakes, and almost everyone in overwatch tends to ignore their own mistakes and blame others instead. now, related to this:

untrue. the biggest reason as to why OW players are mad is because they don't feel like they're ever in control of the game. 6 person teams in a HIGHLY teamplay-based game is a horrible, horrible setting for an individual player to shine. the best players in the world sometimes can't win against an equally skilled team if their support mercy main just happens to be having a bad day. that doesn't mean you CAN'T improve or go up in MMR, it just means it takes ages and your personal impact on the game is very small, even if you're much better than the average player in your bracket. you can see many pros start to struggle at diamond in their "bronze to gm" climb because diamond players just love to throw games at a whim and make them unwinnable. that, in turn, means that the pro player's winrate drops to about 55% from 75% or whatever it is prior to that.

People shit on Hanzo, but it's Widowmaker's fault for being so damn boring that people choose him over her. Hanzo's gimmicks are much more interesting, plus his wall climb doesn't have a 12 second cooldown like Widow's grapple gun.

i should have clarified that it's actually probably related to your basic mechanics, not your physical limitations. see this list: the dunning krueger really only starts fucking with your head at gold/plat when you realize you aren't half-bad (but you're still quarter-bad)

he also doesnt have a scope as a sniper
so hes useless beyond random scatters

At the ranges you engage in in Overwatch that's rarely a problem for him. The hitboxes for his arrows are also really big to compensate for it.

I reached gold and doubt I'll ever get out of it. Not only am I not an amazing "mlg" player, but I have no group to consistently play with. It's like there's no middle ground either. Random quick play is just morons running around as Hanzo/Genji/Widow doing nothing. Competitive is Hanzo/Genji/Widow obliterating everything.

So if you just want a team that at least gets the gist of what to do and watches each others back, good luck. None of my pals play it except one. Neither of us play it seriously and just want grouped with other competent folks.

Hanzo and Genji are both fucking bullshit. Hanzo because he can one shot most of the cast every ten seconds, and Genji because he's an annoying unfun piece of shit to deal with. Unless you play a few select characters you just can't attack him period unless his deflect is down. Once it's down, dash through, jump twice, repeat. People complain about Junkrat when he's nothing compared to Genjis bullshit.

I got back into Overwatch recently after quitting after I hit Diamond in ranked and I think I am done again because of Mercy.
The combination of high healing compared to every other support, undoing picks every 20 seconds (or whatever the cooldown on that thing is) along with how stupid simple it is to reach the maximum potential as her has me extremely salty.

Because people suck at aiming. A bad Widow is useless. You shouldn't balance a character around bad players though. What could they do to tweak Hanzos multishot to not be bullshit?

maybe .05% are good enough with widow to warrant a pick, shes high skill to beat out the option of picking a much easier but higher dmg output dps. My problem is with every jackass thinking that he must go widow and be useless. Where as they could possibly get a kill or two with junk or 76, with a widow pick they are inherently useless and fucking the team in the ass.

And whomever keeps thinking that the perfect counter to the other teams widow is a another goddamn widow should be gassed, its not a fucking counter.

I swear some people pick characters because the character in the right hands is crazy, but aren't crazy themselves. I like Junkrats play style even before he had two mines and people bitched he became OP. I use him as often as I can. How well I do depends on if my team is doing well together, period. If they die and no keeping enemies at bay, I'm fucked. If the team works well together I get to be ballsy and try different things or be more aggressive. I'm never sure if I'm doing well or getting better as him due to a lot of people not seeming to care about objectives or teamwork.

Don't get me wrong either. I'll change out of Junkrat to something else if it seems like it'll help. I usually Rein on payload maps. Lucio or Zen depending if needed. Soldier 76 if we need more damage.
