The shit writing is the whole point of the first act. You're supposed to think you're playing a generic VN before shit hits the fan.
And the game is 3-4 hours long at worst. Most VNs take that long simply to get out of the intro.

Yup. I'm still waiting for my Katawa Shoujo, but the girls all have mental problems and are trying to hide it. You can even leave the suicide in and have a nice subplot about the MC feeling guilty about dating anyone. That would even double as an anti-suicide message when you see how devastated it makes those around you.

The first act is literally just melodrama with a VN filter, what the fuck are you even talking about? The second act plays on all of your understandings of the first act and abuses what numerous suspicions you're given along with multiple glitches in both text and personality.

Yeah, I was very disappointed in the meta twist. I was much more into it when I thought that the glitches and the girls acting crazier was the result of the MC's denial and the stress/trauma the suicide brought on. When I realized it was meta, I lost a lot of interest.

What's not generic about things that follow it? It's literally just a creepy twist that's been done to death already. It pushes the whole 'lol it's just a game' aspect negating any attachment you could've developed to the characters in the first act. It also shits its pants by introducing numerous plotholes and making characters act a certain way for the sake of moving plot further or to deliver a certain message.

But act 2 makes it pretty clear you're just replaying act 1 without Sayori in it and the MC having no memory of it.
