I don't see the point in going beyond 1080p for gaming.
Just seems like a pointless amount of pixels with diminishing returns. Plus the file size for games is obscenely large, especially once you hit 4K. I'd much rather have a high-end 1080p panel with a high refresh rate and HDR and gsync and every other bell & whistle way before I would want more resolution. Plus as GPUs (and thus consoles) improve it means better image quality for a 1080p image rather than sitting at the same 30 to 60fps with medium and high settings and minimal, if any, anti-aliasing.
Fuck 4K. Waste of time.
Robert King
I agree OP. 1080p and 60fps is good enough
John Perez
I think 1440p 120hz is the sweet spot. You can still get decent performance, get a crisper image and image quality.
Tyler Wood
what's with this recent 1440p meme? it's not a proper resolution as far as everyone was concerned 5 years ago.
Noah Cooper
yes but
higher numbers will always impress the average pleb so they'll do it
Mason Bailey
It's just a nice up from 1080p, especially if you want to play on monitors above 24inch as 1080p starts to look like shit above that. It's the in between on 1080 and 4k (4k is a meme unless you're rich and want to buy a 1080ti to run the 40% of games that support it on medium settings for 50fps)
Gavin Barnes
despite all the advances in hardware gameplay and mechanics still suffer being dumbed down for the lowest common consumer and excuses like "we were held back by the limitations of the hardware" still exist

>I don't see the point in going beyond 1080p for gaming.
I do. Better details in geometry and textures. Especially at long distances. I noticed the resolution increase when I went from 1080p to 1440p.
>Plus the file size for games is obscenely large, especially once you hit 4K.
Game file size != screen resolution. But I still get your point. Higher resolutions as standard means that devs "have" to release the game with higher resolution assets to make good use of them. Having optional texture sizes when downloading a game would be a good option for people that lack space.
>I'd much rather have a high-end 1080p panel with a high refresh rate and HDR and gsync and every other bell & whistle way before I would want more resolution.
I agree with this. High refresh rate + G-Sync comes before higher resolution for me. And HDR must be nice.
>Fuck 4K. Waste of time.
Not when it gets all the features 1440p now has. But as of now, yes.
Juan Jenkins
27" 1440p 144hz monitor. it's pretty great senpai.
Xavier Roberts
1440p with a high refresh rate is the sweet spot right now
Elijah Fisher
I've been using 1440p for over five years already. Recently got a 1440p144 monitor and it's much better than 4k60 as far as I'm concerned.
Tyler Williams
60 is the new 30. You all should be aiming for 144+ at this point, even for singleplayer games.
Levi Reed
>Just seems like a pointless amount of pixels with diminishing returns. It's really not. The jump from 1080p to 1440p is about as big as the jump from 720 to 1080 and 1440 to 4k is similar as well.
You're right that 4k isn't worth it at the moment but it WILL become worth it as cards get better. Volta is already looking like it could turn 4k into a reasonable thing.
Andrew Barnes
1440p is a huge improvement at 27", even better at 24". 120hz is a big jump as well, with diminishing returns from there.
Currently on 1440p 24" 165Hz GSYNC
Nathaniel James
>You all should be aiming for 144+ at this point High frames per second is only crucial to first person shooters. I understand this is actually important, so please do not misunderstand me. My question is, have you really, honestly seen a huge difference between 60fps and 144fps?
pic unrelated
Gabriel Barnes
4K, 1440p and Ultrawide are all memes 1080p 144hz is all that matters
Joshua Myers
Bigger difference than extra pixels.
Hunter Gutierrez
Yep, the difference is bigger than going to a higher resolution
Landon Baker
>Plus the file size for games is obscenely large, especially once you hit 4K Wat
Kevin Torres
Why do 1080p144hz when you could do 720p240hz?
Justin Long
I used to say the same thing about going to HD from SD. I was wrong and poor back then and you're wrong and poor right now.
It's this generations 480p it's not a noticeable upgrade but they can pretend it is and that it makes them not poor.
