2 for story and writing.
KOTOR 1 feels more like a Star Wars game and less like one developer using one character for his own mouthpiece. Also, it has the best twist in a video game.
Kotor 1 has a better romance
kek, OP don't take this guy seriously.
>best twist in a video game
come on
1 is more fun.
Playing KOTOR 1 atm and I fucking hate Taris already.
give me (one) better twist in a video game
1 is better in every aspect except for the fact that it's lacking in 2's edgy grimdark story. Which is makes it even better than 2 in my book
i think both games actually have pretty shitty intros
You'll enjoy the story then.
literally any other game out there.
nmot him, but you can't actually do it can you?
I just did, you don't actually think KOTOR 1s twist was anything special did you? I could easily say FF IV, or Spec Ops, but it's easier to just dismiss his idea outright since it's the most low brow twist in the industry.
nigga are you kidding? the plot twist was nothing special and very predictable. KOTOR 2 had infinitely better writing, and instead of a gimmicky plot twist, slowly unfolded a very unpredictable and unique twist on star wars lore
Spec Ops is shit. Just explain why it's a bad twist. You haven't yet besides "it just is every other game is better".
1 is superior. 2 is typical unfinished Obsidian memeshit.
>Spec Ops is shit
So you're retarded. KOTORs twist is the most vanilla, basic twist in the industry, you're told what it is far before you even get to it either so it's not climatic at all, it's very boring and poorly done and it doesn't have any major climatic effects on your party, they just shrug it off and not give it a shit, it doesn't have any weight to it. It might be amazing if you're five but that's just because you don't know any better.
Peragus is great. Telos is pretty shit though.
>1 is better in every aspect except for the fact that it's lacking in 2's edgy grimdark story.
Not if you go dark side
at least the second game actually has characters and not walking tropes.
The main twist has no impact in the first game precisely because revan is so lacking as a character.
>make the protagonist a blank slate for the player
>when his past and entire character is integral for the twist/plot to have any impact
Bravo bioware
Might as well play 1 first, 2 expands on the gameplay a bit.
KOTOR 1 is simple in gameplay, it definitely feels like a Star Wars game, you fly around in what was an entirely new setting, one set way before Episode 1. So at the time it felt refreshing, despite all the usual themes and characters fitting the usual roles. I still think the twist is good, and various points in the game allow your character to develop based on the things you encounter. Going from a hardened mercenary to a Jedi, then the conflict of whether your relationship with Bastilla drags you to the dark side, usual Star Wars box-ticking.
You can tell KOTOR 2 was written by people who were eager to start Mass Effect, it tackles Star Wars in a way that makes the Jedi and Sith seem morally ambiguous, it even dips into cosmic horror at times. Doesn't really feel like a stereotypical Star Wars setting. Cool characters, with a LOT more dialogue than the first game. The crafting system feels unnecessary, and the game starts off very slowly. But if you stick with the game until the end, it's totally worth it.
Why not both? These are the only two games I've ever 100% completed. I also did so without a walkthrough. I spent 2-3 years of my life playing these games exclusively and i replay 1 on a yearly basis.
Kotor 1 has the best story. Kotor 2 has better writing and gameplay.
Now if you bring the restored content nod into the picture, id pick kotor 2. But thats mostly because kriea is my favorite star wars character of all time. Hell, shes probably my favorite video game character of all time
>set way before Episode 1
Like 10k years back
>Kotor 1 has the best story. Kotor 2 has better writing
What the did he mean by this?
How do I actually get KOTOR running in 1080? Flawless widescreen doesn't seem to work.
A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away.
It means he doesn't know what he's talking about
Kotor 1s overall story is more fleshed out and complete.
Kotor 2 has better dialog and character interaction/ progression
the mining station and the ending planet for kotor 2 were so boring and bland. it's hard to play it over the first for those reasons even though it has more refined and fleshed out gameplay and ui
2. 1 doesn't even hold a candle to it, and despite popular misconception the gameplay is far worse in 1.
>best kotor1 character isn't a companion
FUCK YOU BIOWARE
1 and 2
gameplay is pretty terrible in both tbqh
It just revolves around spamming your one OP ability and trashing everything

Drew on suicide watch
This. Overall KOTOR 2 is my favourite but KOTOR 1 is tied together much better in terms of actually being a finished game.
They're both a chore to play
Describe Revan's character without mentioning anything that originates in kotor2
What the fuck did they do to Revan and the Exile in TOR/the books? Why did they kill off the exile? I'm genuinely sad about this, KOTOR 1&2 are among my favourite games of all time but it just strikes me as so odd, Kreia's dialogue at the end of 2 was so ominous and hinted at something awesome and then we got...that.
I would have preferred if they didn't feature in TOR at all, if they just left the interpretation of Revan and the Exile up to the player's own roleplay rather than give them set/canon characters.
If we ever get KOTOR 3 do you think we can just forget TOR exists and continue right off from where 2 ended? Maybe by some miracle, it can be retconned, if 3 ever exists?
bland
Do you really want modern Bioware coming anywhere close to kotor again?
Drew who wrote KOTOR 1 took back control of the canon and got jealous that Avalone did so much better so killed off the Exile and retconned just about everything regarding KOTOR 2.
I want to think they have the potential for another good game in them, another masterpiece. Their last few years haven't been great for sure (and I liked DA:I, sort of), but I can't throw away all of my goodwill for them based on that surely? They made these games, worlds, characters that I loved so much. I don't want to let go.
Edmonton at least, has a lot of potential.
What are some games like KOTOR2? i've played it too much in the last couple of years, but have the itch for something like it.
Kotor 2 was ayn rand for dumbies with some bad level designs and ugly companion. Bao due and mandalore were decent characters, but other than that the NPCs were pretty soulless including the waifu characters.
A Jedi that turns to the dark side
Would you kindly
No
>You can tell KOTOR 2 was written by people who were eager to start Mass Effect
[citation needed]
How do I get over the disappointment of KOTOR 3 likely never existing? Of them completely screwing up Revan and the Exile in their shitty WoW knockoff/tie-in book? It's been years and I still feel so sad and empty about what happened.
It's the one game I really just don't want to let go of, what are the chances TOR will be disregarded and we'll get a new game? At some point?
NEVER EVER
Do you really want nu-BioWare handling KOTOR 3? It’d be a shitshow.
The only company I’d want working on KOTOR 3 is Obsidian, and they’ll never work with EA/BioWare again.
Be happy with 1 & 2 and pretend TOR never existed.
How are the mobile port(s)?
Jade Empire is the same kinda gameplay apparently.
Dragon age is similar.
You're right, but I wish I could make the hurt stop.
I prefer 2 but can understand why some would prefer 1.
Just play both in order jesus they're just one long story together
Have you played Mass Effect? That and Dragon Age are pretty similar in terms of storytelling.
1 is more Nostalgic for me. I need to pick up a phyiscal copy for my xbone.
>flawless wide-screen
>Faggot actually fell for the meme
Go to wide-screen gaming page and use the older way you dumb cunt
>I could easily say FF IV
Which one?
currently playing kotor1 and constantly running into a bug where one, or all of my party cannot move and have to reload. fucking annoying so I'm stopping there.
can't wait for xoreos to be done
And kotor2 is meant to be the buggy game...
Karpyshyn got the last laugh, he shat all over KotOR2 story and its characters in his Revan novel.
SERIOUSLY WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?
I WAS JUST PLAYING THIS GAME!
You can always look forward to Apeiron, the Unreal 4 remake of Kotor 1. In 5-10 years. Or just wait for EA to shut it down.
A Jedi General-turned-Sith who led a massive desertion from Jedi ranks to fight the Mandalorians in the Mandalorian Wars because the Jedi Order refused to help. He became a Sith after the war and returned with a giant army and almost brought the Republic to its knees until he was betrayed by his apprentice during the final battle and the bridge of his ship was attacked causing an explosion which caused Revan to get an amnesia.
lmao dudes check my saving throws
You might be in solo mode bro
KOTOR 3 to 11
>Picks rogue class
>No dex
What's the point
Had the same bug in 2. It stopped after i enabled vsync.
MAH NIGGA
lol.
>ayn rand
I never understood the hate for her writing, I'm not saying she's the best or anything, but I rather enjoy what I've read of Atlas Shrugged, I've almost finished it.
They shrug it off? Iirc they never fucking shut up about it from then on and you can decide to do a complete 360 in terms of morality from that point.
>first game is just a rehash of ANH
>second game shits all over established canon
REALLY makes me think
in kotor 1 containers aren't tagged as empty after you search them

KOTOR 2 is one of the most overrated games in history. It has a more interesting story but it doesn't live up to 1 in any other category. The influence system is garbage, forcing you to have certain characters out at certain times or risk never seeing them develop. You're forced to repeatedly make use of characters that you likely wouldn't want to and they don't have access to the gear they will need as that's on your non shit characters.
The game isn't even finished and this great story is incomplete.
>mods man!
If the game needs to be heavily modified in order to be good, it isn't good.
>heavily modified
What did he mean by this?
>You're forced to repeatedly make use of characters that you likely wouldn't want to
So? They still level up when they're not in your party and you'll likely find enough loot to give everyone decent enough gear for the occasional party-splitting quests.
>If the game needs to be heavily modified in order to be good, it isn't good.
Good meme.
>wat is restoration mod
>this game is intrinsically good all it needs it several huge mods by the community to be enjoyable
>therefore it is good
Ok.
Being forced to use shit characters in uninteresting and boring interactions is not a good thing.
>you'll likely find enough loot
Or you'll have to hide behind the bar and shoot
They're both overrated garbage, play this instead.
>one mod
>heavily modified
>you aren't having fun because you spend 30 seconds downloading a mod reeee!
>Or you'll have to hide behind the bar and shoot
wow, game completely broken, thanks obsidian, now I can complain on Sup Forums like an autistic neckbeard now!
he asked you to describe his character, not his backstory
soyboy games for soyboys
KotOR1 had a few characters I wish 2 had but overall was a more bland cast. Also the first game has a really lame beginning and end. 2 might start slower but I find it more entertaining. I just wish 2 had one or two characters with a bit more convention and charisma to them like 1's Canderous Ordo or Bastilla. Planets overall were way more fun in 2. Save maybe Dantooine.
Academy was just a cheap follow up, a real step down from Outcast.
I've got 1 installing right now, will I have any problems getting the game to work? Any tips for both 1 and 2?
>restoration mod isn't a game-spanning mod that literally took years to finish because there were so many goddamned bugs, issues, and omissions by the developer
Well, the patient only has pancreatic cancer so it really isn't a big deal. I mean, it's only ONE disease.
>you aren't having fun because you spend 30 seconds downloading a mod reeee!
Hello strawman! I knew you'd show up.
>wow, game completely broken
You completely missed the point there. I'm not surprised.
Still better than KOTOR
Kotor 1
Odds decides
>Jedi class
>base class
>weapon[s]
>alignment
In the first game you can save levels for Jedi. Taris levels you up 8 times so maybe save at least 4 levels.
Is this game anygood
This is sort of how I always felt about it. KOTOR 2 is probably a better game, but KOTOR is a better Star Wars game. The more black and white morality is more fitting with the theme of the originals.
>Consular
>Scoundrel
>Stun Baton
>Neutral
How's it like to be a sith in these games? Is it enjoyable or do you just become a really edgy faggot?
Pat and woolie are doing a Sith run
