look at what it is now
wasn't there a period of time they accidentally had an NPC sell armors that could desynth into Cashmere so they ramped the price through the roof to like 8 million gil?
2003 FFXI was a strange place. Kind of like early, patch 1.0 WoW in a way. Even more austere though.
I didn't play until early 2004 when all of the kinks had been ironed out, but I heard some pretty insane stories.
Can you believe RoZ missions were completed before the cap was raised to 75?
People used to get brutalized on ZM11 even with decent gear at 75. Imagine having to do Sky stuff with shitty level 70 gear. Good lord.
This was never an accident and the armor that made it was always really expensive. People wondered for the longest time why those gender specific subligae were so expensive.
In fact, for a long time, almost no one worldwide had Clothcrafting over a certain level in the 90s because it was widely believed that the only realistic way to get to 100 was with Cashmere. And the only way to get Cashmere was to kill Vrtra.
Vrtra was thought to be unkillable for quite a while.
>Vrtra
Holy shit does that take me back
A shame it's just another forgotten NM now
>subligae
Isn't it "subligaria"?

How about Vrtra located at Spook, killing newbies?
>killing Roc gets a title
>killing Sir gets a title
>killing Lumber Jack doesn't, despite technically being a part of the trilogy
Holy shit that's great
As terrible as it was not having an aggro'd monster despawn when someone dies/leaves the area (Yuhtunga with Gobs), it really made zoning into a new areas a thrilling experience
Fuck, I just like the way XI handled it's monsters in general, where if something aggro'd you and you were alone, you'd usually be fucked
Really made exploring feel dangerous and exciting
>Spook
That's another one I haven't heard in ages
Travelers Mantle's were my main source of income for funding my Warrior/Paladin for years
>tfw never got past the dunes or to level 18 for a subjob
>Roc
>Simurgh
>drop great items
>Lumber Jack
>drops a fookin bloodsword
>Travelers Mantle's were my main source of income for funding my Warrior/Paladin for years
Mine was being a RNG/THF with wide scan (now they've fucking given wide scan to every job for free) on La Theine hunting rams. I'd craft ram leather on the spot to conserve inventory space and sell the horns au naturale. It was enough to buy consumables for RNG and NIN, which at that time were fucking expensive.
The Jeuno Christmas theme is really nostalgiac and comfy.

This one?
Yeah the wide scan thing caught me off guard when I first saw I had it when I returned to play
Also that was also smart thinking
My one regret was not getting into Synthesis more
I only really briefly messed with it the entire time I played because of how much of a pain in the ass it was to level it up (and costly)
Should've just messed around with some of the materials I got from drops instead of selling everything
Probably would've been worth it in the end
Hell yeah it is
I have a lot of great memories chilling in Jeuno on my Winter break listening to it
God I miss those days
My personal favorite will always be the Sunbreeze Shuffle though
WotG was such a shit expansion besides SCH and DNC. Biggest crime to this day is how Jeuno[S] was cutscene only
I agree
But I thought the storyline was pretty great for it
Even if it had it's annoying moments (Fucking Cait Sith minigame)
The concept for it was good, but the execution was awful. I would have loved to see Crystal War Vana'diel with the backstories of all of the current-day characters, but they fucked up
>you will never be as smug as President Karst of Bastok
