I had a fun time on a server with two other guys, me as Obi-Wan teamed up with Qui-gon against solo Darth Maul. I was a complete noob and we basically reenacted the movie fight with Qui-gon dying and me miraculously killing Maul after a drawn out battle. I spent most of the first half trying to find my lightsaber that was on the ground.
I couldn't get this to work well consistently though. I joined servers a lot and got kicked right afterwards saying there was some kind of error. Googling it didn't turn up much either.

I still don't know how to get gud at lightsabering, I get owned every single lightsaber fight. I don't play Jedi class generally but some servers people get pissy if you don't go into it to Jedi duel even though it's a open server.

It isn't, it never has been. Raven Software, the devs, explicitly said it was never JK3, it's a standalone expansion to Jedi Outcast, much like Mysteries of the Sith was a standalone expansion for Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight.

It's kind of a Star Wars themed cross between Counter Strike and Overwatch/Team Fortress.

Still better than every other Star Wars game released since, with Republic Commando and SWBF2 (classic) close contenders. I actually prefer Jedi Outcast for the story and nostalgia but biases aside, Academy is the superior game.
