Well I mean, finally got combat fully working, so NPCs shoot and fight back and get pissed off and all that, and tied it to editable values. Needs some tweaking but I can make them pretty aggressive, and it's fun running away from a bunch of high level fuckers who shoot you as soon as they can.

Apart from being absolutely terrible unfinished garbage in the 3d department, the biggest problem with the 2.1 version is that the 2d physics and input processing are absolutely fucked. It shouldn't take a PhD to make pixel perfect platformer movement work with Godot. It's physics are so imprecise

I've been working on a game engine entirely made in C and OpenGL.
It's feels like reinventing the wheel but it is quite pleasant to see it working after hours of debugging.

I mean everything else about Godot is ok. The scene system works fine. Have you tried working on the c++ side and compiling it? I am hoping this will allow you to implement this shit yourself. I certainly have no wish dealing with you programming because fuck those conventions

All the indie games made in it. Indie-devs don't optimize their own game, so what you are seeing is whatever optimization the engine does under the hood.

It's fucking free. You could even publish your games and pay for it later. They are pretty flexible in the licensing.

I've been very tempted to code my own engine considering I don't know a single 2D engine that's easy to get into and not complete shit at the same time.

Starting from scratch is very difficult, especially if you aren't that proficient in programming.

I'm aware but I don't have huge plans or anything. It'll be a simple 2D game and quite frankly I don't want to spend a few more years just learning a new engine on top of it.
