Most modern MMOs go out of their way to HIDE that their questing hasnt changed one bit from the last 15 years

Themepark MMOs are shit, thats why the MMO genre as such is shit.

The Original intent of MMOs, the dream of MMOs, was never the themepark.
If you look at Ultima online and Everquest before they overhauled it you can see that it was meant to be a world to play IN not a world to play THROUGH.

Of course these games were pretty barebones.
But today you could go further with it.

Most developers of course dont try, the closest thing we got is shitty sandbox survival games who may have the "Player built sandbox" aspect but lack the "Created world" aspect. They dont simulate the world WITHOUT the players and thus only fulfill the other half of the MMO dream.

What the MMO genre does right now is to iterate on wow. Sure we get better and better versions of WoW.
We got a more story driven WoW in the form of ESO, we got a WoW with failure states in the form of GW2, we got a prettier WoW with the Final Fantasy MMO.

But what we dont have is a real deviation.

Everquest Next was meant to be this, but they were too ambitious too fast, got sold off and it died.

Thinking that the MMO genre will ever be good again without finally getting rid of both the Themepark aspect and the mindless sandbox survival aspect is delusional.

What the MMO Genre needs to become, but by how it looks wont ever be, is a Simulated World that needs the players to save it.
A functional simulated society doomed without the players.

maybe some rich faggot at some point will have the idea that this needs to happen and goes about doing it.
But rich faggots are mostly more concerned with going to Mars and actually usefull shit.

was never meant to happen. There's so much technical issue that the moment i saw the demo i knew it was full of shit. Altering terrains without breaking the games won't happen unless it's non-consequential action which make it very boring. Minecraft could do it because it's simple graphic and it's localised server.

This "Will x save MMO's?" happens with every fucking Korean MMO. It didn't happen with Archeage, it didn't happen with Aion, it didn't happen with Blade and Soul, it didn't happen with BDO and it won't happen with this shit or Bless Online either before some cunt of an OP makes this same thread for that too.

Why are most Korean games F2P? I'd rather pay for the game than be be forced to use the fucking P2W cash shop.

I dont think that was the problem.
The main problem was the AI not working with the destructible terrain.

As for breaking the game: They had a system where terrain would grow back and building wouldnt work inside the big cities without buying permission, the wild would be borderladns so you could build there.

Conan Exiles does this so its clearly not impossible to make a working game like that.

EQN simply came too early when voxel technology and AI interaction was not very well developed.
Furthermore it didnt have the funding it needed and it was VERY ambitious.

I dont know if EQN would have resembled the game that they wanted to make, or if it would have saved the MMO genre.

All im saying is that out of all MMOs ive ever seen, EQN was the only one that had the right ideas.
