Retro pixel games shouldn't use hi-bit color gradients! reeeee

Why? It looks pleasing.

>Hmm, I want to make a thread on Sup Forums, should I just post something I like and what I like about it?
>Nah, better post a straw man that I'm arguing with instead!

Why do you all do this?

said no one you worthless retard

Because its easier to get a few easy replies to make sure the thread doesn't die.

Fuck that shit, though. Post comfy pixels.

You guys think this kids ever played Super Metroid?

If what you mean is pic related than no that doesn't look great for retro games. It looks cool but I think indie game the moment I see it. True retro games worth a shit never looked unfinished like this pic does. Most of the time at least.

something is off about the train in the background

How does it look unfinished?

Compare pic related with the pic in OP. One of my favorite retro games here. Notice how the rocks lack detail in OP and the character model just looks so plain? Compared to true retro games it looks like it is unfinished work. It lacks all the detail a game from the past would have had.

And that is what I don't like about indie games. They claim to be a retro style but then are usually not close to one at least in regards to visuals.

You mean the monorail?

OP's pick looks 10 times better though

No it doesn't. Tons of better looking true retro games.

Most of the sprite work is very flat and just basic shapes with no detailed lighting in the sprite work itself.

Only thing that is appealing is the colour palette.

I don't know what to tell you, but I think both picks you posted look worse than OP's
