Is this game any good?

Is this game any good?

Nah

Find a good weapon/armor? It's going to degrade to nothing after an hour, so don't even bother trying to make your character stronger.

i have no idea what youre on about

yes
now go play it

That's why I'm asking. I'm considering to buy it right now.

Hi Todd

Simple awnser: Yes

People have a lot of opinions on the series, don't be discouraged by the rabid fans, NV is just as good as any of the others.

It’s taken hundreds of hours of my life and I don’t regret a single one. Definetely play it

>If the condition of an item degrades all the way to 0%, the item is broken and cannot be used until repaired. In the case of equipped armor and clothing, bonuses to skills or attributes will still apply even if the item is broken, but once removed it will have to be repaired before it can be re-equipped.

In other words, don't even fight anything, you get weaker for doing so.

It's worth atleast one playthrough.

That also happens a lot on Borderlands

or just repair your equipment, retard

A lot of people consider it to be very good. Now, that doesn't mean you'll necessarily like it - tastes differ, but it means it's worth giving a try at least.

Be warned though that it's very clunky. I'd look into getting some essential mods, like that one that makes it use more memory and the anti-stutter one.

Except you get stuff from the enemies you kill, which does make you stronger.

im saying that it isnt even that bad, almost liek youve never found weapon repair kits or had a high skill in the weapon or simply repaired it.

>left arm crippled
>vats is useless
You are required to have 10 doctors bags on you at all times

or use a stimpak

>need mid-late game perk to make repair possible for better items

>stimpacks healing limbs in hardcore

Duct tape, wonderglue, wrench, scrap electronics, scrap metal (2). Repair:50 is easy to get, with journals you only need 40, with journals and Comprehension 30. Don't want to get Repair? Get caps, ask traders to repair your shit.

>have to scrounge for rare items and/or waste a perk point on a rarely useful perk
You're just making it worse

>Get caps, ask traders to repair your shit.
50,000 caps to repair one weapon isn't an option unti, you've beaten the game

>rare items
Here's your (You)

>rare items
Those are all extremely common trash items, and Comprehension is easily one of the best early game perks which gives you both immediate boost and a long-reaching one with boosting both Journals and Books. Journals are super-common, too.

>if I call it bait it goes away!
Scrap electronics and magazines are a rare find

Scrap electronics are junk, you can find them everywhere, random traders sell them for like what, 20 caps? 10?

>Those are all extremely common trash items,
See >Comprehension is easily one of the best early game perks which gives you both immediate boost and a long-reaching one with boosting both Journals and Books. Journals are super-common, too.
There's no one here but me and your fellow drones, lying to me won't win you an argument, I play the game too, you're wasting your time by trying to bullshit me.

All true, but the probability of finding them either way is very low.

He's either an actual retard or baiting for (you)'s just fucking ignore him.

By the time you find a good weapon/armor you're usually mid/late game and have a high repair skill or a lot of caps to afford repairs.

Do you really think fucking Comprehension is bad? Lmao dude, don't mind me passing endgame tier checks in midgame by drugging myself up and using magazines.

todd would tell you to buy fo4 not nv, this is josh sawyer

youre a retard, just have an npc repair it

>you're required to spend 70 points AND a perk for the ability to use your equipment more than a few times
>or you must pay 40k+ caps every few minutes

This is also why the different ammo types are completely useless, because they wear down weapons way too fast.

>dont build your character so you can do something
>dont build your character so you can conduct business more efficiently
>given a punishment because you focused in other aspects of the game
oh choices and consequences in an rpg? what bullshit.

>different ammo types are completely useless, because they wear down weapons way too fast
you know there are literally ammo types that wear your guns less so you can shoot geckos and such

and AP ammo doesn't wear your gun more

and something like Energy Cell, Optimized will degrade a gun 10% faster, but do 30% more damage so it's a net win anyway

You have the dumbest reasons to dislike New Vegas I've seen to date.

>use up all your six magazines
>perk is now useless until you spend ANOTHER perk point

>youre a retard, just have an npc repair it
See>or you must pay 40k+ caps every few minutes

>you are required to play a specific way or else not play at all
This is why NV gets so much flak, and your rabid defense of this garbage in it only makes people hate it more.

Geckos aren't the majority of enemies.
>and something like Energy Cell, Optimized will degrade a gun 10% faster, but do 30% more damage so it's a net win anyway
Until that gun is destroyed because of the rapid degradation.

ive literally never put my repair higher than 40 and have never paid for repairs yet somehow i never find that all my weapons are broken. is my game broken?

I spent 120 hours on a single game in the Ultimate edition (DLC included) and I enjoyed each and every one of them. It's not a perfect game and it still has a lot of bugs to this day, but I found the good parts far outweighed the bad. I recommend playing on hardcore mode even if it's your first Fallout game. I did the same and never considered switching it off. As for the DLCs, they're fun but not necessary and you can safely purchase the cheaper version without feeling like you're missing out on anything.

Hell yeah.

no, you're just lying

TO THE TOWN OF AGUA FRIA RODE A STRANGER ONE FINE DAYYYY

screw you OP, i was gonna make a wintercore kino thread with the exact same image you used

also this, 100 hours in and not even close to done. still have 90-95% of the main quest and a good amount of side quests. most of the world is explored. its gonna take me probably 160ish hours like it says on HowLongtoBeat

It's good its just not a good fallout game.

best fallout game since the original 2 thats for sure though

Your not even a vault dweller tho, therefore not a fallout game.

No, it's a good Fallout game, and it's a good game, it's just not made very well.

>you have to do things to get things in a video game
>wow gay

Kill yourself

I had dozens of magazines by endgame. The perk also makes skill books more powerful.

I obviously used Geckos as an example of weak enemies.

>rapid degradation
More damage means you need to make less shots, and considering the damage benefit outweighs the increased degradation by a lot, it actually will make your gun last longer. Basic math.

Nice try Obsidian

youre not a vault dweller in fallout 2 so thats not a real fallout game either?

you are starting to sound like a fallout 3 and 4 fan right about now

No, 4 is the best since the original two, it does far more things wrong than nv, but it also does more things right than nv.

laughing emoji

How is it possible that you are so pathetically bad at this game? Did you start with Fallout 4 or some shit? I played very hard + hardcore usig only unarmed and was fine. You must suck ass.

dude new vegas, like literally every RPG ever, is only difficult at all in the beginning. once you get the common sense skill, in this case repair, it becomes easy. divine divinity is the same way. there's a slump VERY early on where it's a pain to overcome and a bit of a challenge, but there's usually a literal skill you can invest in to negate it and guess what, it goes away when you do that. 100 hours in on one save file and it was only difficult by any stretch of the imagination for like maybe 10 ,at most 20 of those. this doesn't mean it hasn't been incredibly fun for all 100 hours because it's one of the best games i've ever played, striking a perfect balance between roleplaying and muh action

your ancestors were vault dwellers. in NV your just a mailman lol

Whats wrong with F3/4??

by the way, repair is not the only common sense skill in divine divinity, for any lurkers. i mean yeah, repair for the barbarian IS one of them, but only for 1 point. the other common sense things are maxing Stun and just selling every drop you find until you're so rich you can just load up on health potions to where it's no longer a problem.

Yeah, pretty good. It can get tedious at times but what rpg doesn't?
The rpg aspects are probably the most forgiving of any rpg I have ever played though. You rarely get locked out of any kind of content, be it equipment or quests, and absolutely any build is viable.

By the way ignore this retard. He's either baiting or retarded. I have 1000+ hours in the game and I've never paid a single cap to repair my equipment. I don't even use jury rigging either.

you can kill any woman you want, 10/10 in my book.

doenst make you a vault dweller, youre a tribal, my ancestor could have been Charlemagne, doesnt make me an emperor

if you think fallout has to be about a vault dweller youre an idiot who doesnt understand the series like bethesda

yeah that vault dweller guy really sounded like a 3/4 apologist

FALLOUT NV IS THE GREATEST RITE GUISE?! HAWHAWHEHAW-*SNORT*

'TODD POSTERS CAN LEAVE NOW' HAHAHAHAHAH I TOLE THEM TODD POSTERS TO GO GUISE!

Nice strawman. :)

It's good but extremely overrated on Sup Forums. About on par with FO3.

>simplifying things to fit your argument
That's called a strawman.

>I had dozens of magazines by endgame.
No you didn't, unless you waste another perk to make your own mags, they're rare.
>the perk also makes skill books more powerful.
And they're even RAREER than mags.

The problem you're facing is that you're desperately trying to bullshit to so eone who knows the truth.

So you agree with me, it's bad game design for forcing the player to play a specific way.
It's not 1999 anymore, this isnt acceptable anymore, and wasn't acceptable when NV came out.

>cant talk about game differences without name calling.

Yeah you sound so informed, I should just take your opinion as gospel and shove my head in the ground.

>he thinks mockery withh make the facts go away

I broke my Fallout virginity with NV a few months ago.

It's good. It's really good. Is it as good as Sup Forums would have you believe? Maybe not. In all honesty its not THAT much better than Skyrim, but its definitely worth a play. The characters, interesting weapons and zany quests make it fun. The repetitive NPC dialogue, redundancy of towns after awhile and some boring missions bog it down.

I swear these NV threads are only here to rile up nv fans.

but Repair is literally 1 skill. it is kind of annoying to find those rare items i guess but like the other guy said, that's the game

The game practically throws gear at you. If you don't want to touch a repair kit, it's a viable option. I'll concede that the repair prices at merchants are ridiculous though.

>not THAT much better than skyrim
>every single faction feels alive, has extensive quests, and the game has a gorrillion endings
>everything you do actually matters
>comparing this to skyrim

Except if you get a rare weapon or piece of armor, enemies ain't gonna drop it again for a long time

I know Skyrim is a much better game

also, maybe im endgame but ammo is literally not a problem. it sounds like you didn't properly accommodate for what the game asks of you.

a vault dweller in the game is defined as someone who lives in a vault, just like the term suggests, someone who dwells in a vault
dwell
dwɛl/Submit
verb
1.
formal
live in or at a specified place.

in fallout 2, the game establishes you are a descendant of the vault dweller of fallout 1 but youre a part of a tribe and now you must go on the trials and this leads you on the journey. you were born in a tent somewhere most likely, you live in the tribe with tribals and youve probably never been in a vault until now with you entering one for your trial.

You are not a vault dweller in fallout 2, the game that many people still debate about is better than fallout 1, but easily as good as fallout 1.

my great grandfather use to live in a manor house and was an officer of a tank division in world war 2, doesnt make me a manor dwelling tank commander.

skyrim isn't as bad as Sup Forums says but what's even worse than that are contrarians like you whose first RPG was skyrim

Hmmm.....yeah the sum of its parts still amounts to you all overrating the game. The factions didn't feel that much alive after the initial wonder established during early skirmishes wore off and every "extensive quest" isn't great.

Great game. Not that much better than Skyrim though.

ill accept that you still think it's
1. great
2. better than skyrim
and be happy we have that in common

i think the reason why a lot of people act like skyrim is a pile of dogshit is because its claimed to be the best RPG of all time etc etc when its just a medicore game that has unbelievably undeserved hype and acclaim for not really that much. Same can be said for fallout 3 and 4 while fallout NV got much less when its better than the others. Just like skyrim and other RPGs

true but skyrim also doesn't have the same feeling as new vegas. its still pretty fun and i wouldn't even say mediocre. you have to remember RPG types are also the turboest of turbo spergs, just take a casual glance at the DND edition wars people

I can live with that. Have a good holiday and enjoy whatever you're currently playing.

Back at ya, user

Should I buy Fallout 3? It's super cheap and I haven't played it since it came out on PS3.

Has it aged well?

Are there good mods for it ?

I played Skyrim and enjoyed it. It had a lot of flaws but there was still a good game below it all. Sometimes the collective identity of this board can fuck people out of enjoying things.

No
No
Probably

sure but from a critical perspective etc comparing skyrim to other rpgs around that time or even before it, it fails in a lot of areas and brims with poor design and short mistakes. its not a BAD game but just medicore compared to GOTY GOTY GOTY RE-RELASE EVERY YEAR FOR A NEW PLATFORM LIKE IF YOU REMEMBER PLAYING THIS AS A TEENAGER OMG SUCH A COOL GAME

i think its peoples anger at those idiots and the people that validate their badly inform opinions with reviews than anger at the actual game

>beating around the bush
An RPG is shit if it forces you to play a specific way.

It probably won't be as good as you remember it being, and the PC port is beyond broken.

when i played it on ps3 so long ago, i enjoyed what little i played of it and it was fun to wander. however, i only played 10-20 hours and then never touched it after. i have since played new vegas and have gotten way more into that because it's worldbuiling is way better and the roleplaying aspect is better. if you already beat NV and just want more fallout, then sure. i'm sure there's a good amount of worthwhile things in it. there's always Mars Logs and its sequel The Technomancer for much jankier RPGs in that sort of post-apoc world

Sup Forums would tell you it's God's gift to mankind, if they ever got around to taking Obsidian's cock out of their throats.

Everyone else will tell you it's an okay game that suffers from horribly outdated and clunky gameplay that even mods can't fix.

People like you are just bad at video games in general. NV is not difficult to progress through nor enjoy the time you play it. If you have such a hard time keeping your shit repaired and functional in NV you suck at the game and likely every other game you play.

OP, give NV a good play through. Its pretty fun.

I completely agree. There's fun to be had for sure and there's worthwhile quests and things, encounters, enemies, etc. My thing is, and I think this board gets hung up on it, is "why not play something better if it's there?" I might return to Skyrim someday but it won't be for a very long while, as I have a boatload of RPGs to go through before that happens. And Enderal.

Also completely agree. You're preaching to the choir, it's not me you have to convince. It's the RPGbabbies

It's on sale, so take it man

>No you didn't
I just bought them from traders because they cost ridiculously low, like 20 caps?

It doesn't though? The game gives you several options for handling your equipment if that's your problem.
Literally so many that it would wear me out to enumerate them.

I meant to add, I think the bigger thing behind all of this is that "mediocre" is not bad. Mediocre means a solid, normal game of that kind. So if you're super into RPGs, you'll probably enjoy even a mediocre one because the genre has just that much to offer.

darn. thanks anyway guys.

I mostly wanted it for the open world aspect. It has been awhile since I played a game that I can just wander around and fuck with stuff. I never played FO4 or Skyrim. Should I try one of those out ?

>play with guns and repair
>or energy weapons and science
>or melee/unarmed
>throw in explosives if you want
>speech and barter if you want
>survival for lots of helpful recipes
>various stat combinations also affect your build

Im not sure what you mean by a specific way. There are plenty of ways to go through NV.

Don't listen to this fella. His heart is in the right place, but alas, he is off-point.

I absolutely despise Sup Forums's hivemind and 0% self-awareness but I really took to New Vegas so I don't mind all the slurping off they do to it. Give it a shot, you'll probably love it.
