Let's have a rogueli(t/k)e thread on Sup Forums, this genre is basically the bread and butter of indie gaming. Dead cells, Isaac, RoR, anything works, post your favorites.
Also, I found this game just today on a Sup Forums mention while browsing for ETG discussion and it's pretty great, don't know why I never heard of it or saw anyone streaming. Basically it's a twin stick shooter in the sort of super-refined 16 bit style in a roguelike room based system with upgrades and etc, with awesome bullet hell bosses and rooms and it's very fast. Also it's cheap.
Yeah. If go there now he sometimes posts what he's working on for the upcoming update
Wyatt James
Wheres dead cells?
Julian Cooper
Couldn't be bothered getting their header, it had the update note instead the title on it. Would add otherwise, alongside Teleglitch, Vagante and 2+ more games.
Parker Adams
Slay the Spire is a lot of fun despite being in early access
Gavin Rogers
How is 20xx? I've been going back and forth about it
Oliver Cooper
I might get into this genre.
I need some games to play at short bursts, around 30 min, and these look good for that.
Also, every time I'm tired of vidya, trying new stuff solves it.
So far I have on my steam library from bundles and shit:
FTL Dungeons of Dredmor Rogue Legacy (played a bit of this one)
Thinking about getting Crypt of the Necrodancer.
Jaxson Perry
Spelunky is basically a must great for playing for a few minutes or hours on end
Bentley Thompson
I played the original some time ago and I liked it.
It's also something I can play with a pad so the comfy factor adds up.
How's Ziggurat? I was curious when it was EA.
Nicholas Fisher
I feel like I'm one of the only people that really likes strafe.
Jace Watson
There isn't a single roguelike in that picture and roguelite is a marketing term made to appeal to retards the same retards that think dark souls is hard duhhhhh permadeath
Jace Russell
>roguelite is a marketing term made to appeal to retards
Actually it was make to appease to autismos who got angry every time someone called them roguelikes
Joseph Ramirez
Yes because it was being used incorrectly. But they still wanted to sound 'hardcore', because as I said before it's a marketing term, so they just changed a letter in such a clever fashion.
Thomas Peterson
...
Gabriel Cox
Would I like monolith if I suck at bullet hells?
Carson Hernandez
This is the first time I've seen a thread about Monolith.
I've been afraid to make one because you know how Sup Forums is with calling everything shill. And it would be partially true because I've spoken to at least one of the developers and personally want them to succeed. But the game happens to be really really polished.
Zachary Morris
Nooooo.
Unfortunately.
Jonathan Scott
Alright thanks that kinda sucks it looks cool
Leo Sanchez
I really like EtG, but I'm waiting for the AG&G update
Brayden Morales
Roguelites by definition are harder than roguelikes thanks to needing actual skill with real time management, reactions and aim. Roguelikes are casual trash.
Brody Phillips
>I've been afraid to make one because I'm scared of strangers on the internet
William Cox
Well I don't want to put a stink on the game itself.
I don't care what they say to me.
Asher Flores
I haven't played any Rogues so I dunno if it's like that or not.
I'd say it's more apt to call Monolith a Zelda 1-like. Short dungeons with secrets and merchants and maps and bombable walls. It's very pleasant.
Ayden Jones
it's a bullet-hell/top-down shooter
Lucas Hughes
It's pretty easy for a bullet hell, unless you're going full cheevo.
Noah Howard
It's Zelda 1 as a 360 directional shooter.
Andrew Flores
>Resident Evil 4 is Doom as a third person shooter That's how retarded you sound
Alexander Clark
It wouldn't be too out there to tell someone that Resident Evil 4 is kinda like Doom.
Why are you so upset, ya weirdo?
Leo Nelson
You weren't saying Monolith is kinda like Zelda. You were saying it's a zelda-like and not a top-down shooter
Stop trying to ascribe ridiculous genres to games when ones that perfectly describe the game already exist.
Jose Nguyen
5$ is still too expensive game developer but nice try.
Nolan Reed
Just tried out Monolith Got to the Overlord with shitton of health and bombs but holy fuck this motherfuckers was harder than all the other bosses combined. I was losing health every few seconds. I got down to one life and this motherfucker still had another fucking phase. I butt clenched a solid minute without getting hit to victory. So it says I got a seal what content is there still?
Camden Mitchell
is Legend of grimrock a roguelike?
Jose Rogers
Who cares you fucking nerd, just enjoy the fucking video games.
Carson Davis
You get the other seals and face the true final boss.
Brody Perez
Will there be a different boss at the end now for a different seal?
You get one from the shop, one from the make a deal statue and one from the cat.
Charles Sanchez
I like Monolith and it may get me into other roguelikes but honestly all the luck based shit can get grating, minimal as it is. Are there any games which only change up things like enemy positions and levels without adding bullshit luck into the mix with random upgrades and items?
Brayden Reyes
and roguelike sees so many arbitrary conditions to whether a game is of the genre or not, that I feel even the original Rogue will stop being considered a roguekike eventually
Ian Cruz
A new level and a new boss. Hard mode has a lot of new content too
Liam Myers
Good image
Charles Green
If not arbitrary it's pretty cut and dry
Similar combat system, character progression can be different
Nobody has ever disputed this. Pokemon mystery dungeon is a rogue like, Spelunky is a play former
Connor Gonzalez
Tfw no one ever wants to play NuclearThroneTogether
Cooper Lewis
>NuclearThroneTogether You just blew my mind.
Colton Cooper
You're telling me it goes up to 4Player online but no friends
Jackson Mitchell
>turn-based >snes rpg aesthetics/music >job system >item worlds >monster capturing >cooking This game is absurdly comfy
Brody Perry
It's decent, you can easly find a gog version to torrent and find out if you like it
Dominic Wright
Enemy attacks coming from a screen away through walls is so infuriating in Dead Cells.
