The poems were the best part unfortunately

the poems were the best part unfortunately

Especially the one with Yuri's pee on it.

No, the treasure hunt in the game files is the good part. It's a giant PR stunt for the real game they're making later.

Explain

>still shilling this """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""game"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" here

Is this the Undertale of VN's?

Excellent tastes my guy.

Remember not to write like Monika or Yuri and you will make great things.

The files of the game are filled with codes and images that lead to texts and websites that tell a completely different story that's only referenced in the game by Yuri's book of Markov.
Some people on Reddit figured it all out, Game Theory did a whole thing on it, which for once wasn't a shit episode.

How do you shill a free game

BUT HEY

BUT HEY!

I hate the recent show too, but this episode was just compiling the shit people found.

>treasure hunt
>reddit
>game theory
>publicity stunt
>muh meta
the poems were the best part

>wasnt shit
>completly ignored that devs confirmed no DDLC related games
He is also adamant about yuri being from that christian camp but we dont really have anything pointing at that

Yeah there was some random nonsense in there, especially in the second episode, which is why I didn't mention it.

lol le creepy glitch jumpscare these things that are supposed to be cute and innocent are not le cute or innocent at all!

Brilliant, simply brilliant.

Poems were part of it, poopybrains.

>make a free game that gets popular with relentless shilling and eceleb exposure
>make another game worth cash
>millions of soyboys flock to the next le anime babe xD game and pay the fee

Respect the hustle.

There are no jumpscares.

i don't chuckle

I'm not talking about the stupid meta 2deep4u "poetry". I'm talking about the slice-of-life stuff. It was good.

Why did you think it was good? I found it extremely cliche and cookie cutter and that was the point.

What? Only actual otaku like moe slice of life. It's a scourge upon anime.

It was honest. It didn't hide behind big words and meta. It wasn't complicated for the sake of being complicated. It used rhythm well, which is the point of not writing in prose. I wish they could have done Yuri's poetry better.

Natsuki was best girl.

Slice of life means about daily life. The poetry about daily life was good.

>that insert song Monika sings at the end
My fucking ears.

Yes, stories about daily life are basically soap opera's. Only people who have no life of their own enjoy it, and only people who've never kissed a girl like moe.

True

You can't just write off an entire genre of literature wtf. Anyway, daily life has a lot of interesting things to look at, good and bad. Everything draws from your experiences and I appreciate a poem that knows that.

Literature, come on..

It's one thing to talk about the epics and plays and how that's "true literature", but it's a whole different ballgame when you're doing the writing. It really messed with me when the girls were talking about staying honest, keeping the words related to the point of the poem, pouring your feelings into it, and then completely ignoring their own advice. "Sine, cosine, tangent" my ass

Hanako = Yuri

I have a confession.

I never deleted Monika. I moved her character file to a folder named "Doki Doki Prison"

She still threw a bitch fit though.

Wait, what are you saying?

As my people say: Kind doctors make stinking wounds.

Monika's poems describe what is happening but fail to convey emotion or show personal investment even once you know the backstory. Save Me and Hole in the Wall were just bad. I hate how she complains about how annoying one-dimensional characters are while being a one-dimensional character herself. I really wanted to see poetry used to flesh out the characters and for the horror to work with the literature club setting instead of completely drowning it out. The poetry just becomes random words and gibberish with blood stains, where's the fun in that?

Imagine a pong game that suddenly becomes more than a pong game and goes into this game theory scavenger hunt with QR codes and hidden messages. It would be shit, work on the game itself.

Yeah, the later poems were a shitty attempt at horror, as was the whole game really. The horror was more funny than unnerving.

Pinning a tiny, weakened girl against the wall was the best part.

The most well done part of the game was the dating sim stuff. The music nailed that tone, as did the character sprites and background art.

The actual horror and meta stuff was poorly done in comparison, really tacky and no ounce of subtlety to it.

I heard it was the Dark Souls of Undertales

>The music nailed that tone, as did the character sprites and background art.
You mean the tone of generic dating sim?

Natsuki is best poet

Yes, and that's the precisely the problem.

It does a much better job being a generic dating sim than it does being a meta horror, if the devs had put the kind of skill they showed in being the game it pretends to be into being the game it actually is it would have actually have been better than the streamer-bait it ended up being.

What are some good none-weebshit-heavy date sims

None

It's because the games not related to DDLC
DDLC is related to it!

Natsuki wrote the best poems

Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude

90's Jap dating sims, like True Love.

agree

Did I fall in love with Sayori or did I identify as her?

My nigga, both the non-spoiler and spoiler alert are good choices (except for the fact that MCL becomes a chore-fest very early on, which sucks considering how funny the writing is).

It's always the problem with these type of games, and I think it relies heavily on the devs themselves. Sure, it's nice to know they're lectured on certain genres and can emulate them well (Toby Fox being a JRPG-fag and Salvato being a Portal-fag for example), and I guess making a game on your own is hard, but putting meta stuff as your selling point isn't really that amazing, just incredibly fucking pretentious.

>except for the fact that MCL becomes a chore-fest very early on
Just use the pussy out option on all the minigames.

>but putting meta stuff as your selling point isn't really that amazing, just incredibly fucking pretentious.
Undertale used it well to help craft its narrative though, but you need actual good ideas to copy Undertale well, so there's not a lot of worthy copycats yet.
