Are there any other games similar to nier?
I don't think I've ever played anything like it before.
Are there any other games similar to nier?
nier automata
I never finished it, but I got far and I don't find it so different from other RPGs.
Not really.
there are not many bosses in automata just a few robots and humanoids, in nier there's a ton of actual boss creatures.
the're basically 3 characters too unlike nier
the atmosphere is very different
Automata is very much its own game unlike anything in nier
It's super unique, I can't think of any other RPG like it
maybe last remnant a tiniest of bits but that's a completely different game
Vagrant Story is very different from Nier but it feels similar for some reason
It's still the closest game to nier.
All Taro games are fairly unique but original Nier rides on the criticism of video game violence and (in english version) on father-daughter relationships, and both of those things has been adopted even by western culture in last 5 years.
If you're gelerally seeking some powerful tragic narrative, and supported by a brilliant ost you're shit outta luck then, Taro is one of a few people in the whole industry who can make it work. Maybe try Bastion, it's one of a few western games that gave me feels.
I can kind of see that yeah
I tried bastion a few time but I always quit like a few hours in
something about it doesn't grab me, probably the gameplay and railroading
i liked nier a lot partly for the fact that you could just chill and walk around and do menial shit while listening your gang ramble about random things
Its literally Nier 2 all across the board
Also
>There are not many bosses
It had the same amount of bosses, they both use the same boss collection room
most of them are just people
Unironically probably breath of the wild.
>Kaine, Shadowlord, Dev & Pop vs Hansel & Gretel, Geppeto, Hook, Grimoire Rubem, Grimoire Noire, Jack of Hearts, Halua, P-33, Wendy, Roc Shariyar and Wendy
>Adam, Eve, 9S, A2, N2, 21O vs Engel, Simon de Beauvoire, Grun, So-Shi, the Machine Storm, Hegel, August & Friedrich, Ko-shi & Ro-Shi, Emil and Square Enix Ltd
I mean, you're right in that there are a bit more balanced but it's still mostly non-humanoid enemies.
In terms of deconstructionist aspect, unironically, SpecOps: The Line (basically one giant middle finger to Modern Warfares and Gears of War) and Remember11 (basically one giant middle finger to Ever17... errr, to Zero Escape games, that is, uh-huh).
>in nier there's a ton of actual boss creatures.
You might also like Drakengard3 since it's very much centered around bossfights (it has absolutely dogshit framerate though). It also has the best dialogues and the highest content density among anything Taro has written and directed. Keep in mind though, that this game is basically absurdist comedy, which jabs at the very notion of "taking things seriously" when it concerns videogames where the protagonist slays thousands of opponents as easily as taking a sneeze. Like, "shit's already ridiculous, wtf do you want from me as a scriptwriter for this type of game? I'm no mass murderer and I've never spoken to one, fuck off!". So the story won't really make a lot of (or rather any) sense even if you count all the prequel short stories and all the (six!) story DLCs (which do have some of the best moments in the game writing and direction-wise though). All of that meaning, shit's nonsensical, but the ride itself is pretty fucking wild. It works purely as DLC to NieR and Grimoire Nier (you did read Grimoire Nier, right? I mean, RIGHT? YOU DID READ GRIMOIRE NIER, I SUPPOSE? OR DID YOU NOT?), but as a God Damn Fine DLC.
A lot of people don't like Drakengard3 both due to its intentionally nonsensical nature - and due to it generally being offensive content-wise (although I personally had found this type of rude blunt black humor absolutely hysterical).
op here
I'm playing drakengard 3 now
I finished branch C the other day and as soon as I saw I need to do grinding to buy all the weapons to play branch D I kinda need a break from it
But it's a completely different experience from nier, I'm mostly playing it just to see where it goes in branch D whenever I get to that
Hahahahaha
>I'm no mass murderer and I've never spoken to one, fuck off!
Except he probably is. I mean, mosquitoes? I mean, microbes? He probably does have disinfectant soap, and has probably used it on numerous occasions during his life? What about those which cause infectional diseases? What about boiling the water?
Pretty sure every each of us is a mass fucking murderer in, well, admittedly, this very specific sense.
Murder doesn't spread on things that aren't human
our bodies kill trillion of bacteria just by being alive and so do any other creatures that are made with more than 2 cells
Why should it spread to AI-controlled dumbasses? Just because they look human? So do dolls. Noone is calling breaking a doll a murder.
I've played through nier two times, and I've got no idea how nier IS actually like. Don't know what to tell you.
Yes, that's exactly what I said?
You mean "feel bad for killing shit" games?
Try Spec Ops
Dolls.
Actually that sort of kind of could be the key to unraveling Taro's works.
El Shaddai is close in general mindfuckery and theatrical feeling to Nier, although it is more of character action without much of rpg elements.
Nah more like RPG's with a unique cast in an unusual setting and some openworld-y side quest-y things?
I mean you run around a post apocalyptic medieval forest village/fisher bay village/ancient ruins with a huge ass sword, a talking book with demonic magic, a creepy doll guy and a half naked dual wielding girl (male) and you drift on boars, kill sheep, and explore celtic occult machine civilization things trying to save your daughter/sister from a curse of an unknown renown?
It's just... a very special game to say the least.
Lost Odyssey if you have a xbox
That's kinda what I was thinking about but I don't have a 360 unfortunately, that game has been on my radar for a long time.
What about Enchanted Arms?
That also seems weird and unusual.
This also looks interesting, I'll try it out.
Summoner 2 (if you decide to do it, go with PS2 version and read screenshoted LP of the first game at LParchive), Anachronox, Planescape:Torment, Kult: Heretic Kingdoms (Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition) to some extent.
Try out yoko taro games in general, I enjoyed Drakengard 3 for how bad it is objectively.
