>want to get into melee
>have to buy a 100-130€ controller
>have to buy a wii, softmod it and get an SD card
>have to get a CRT
Overall i have to pay 200€ if i am lucky. And then i have to grind for MONTHS just to get the basics down. Is it worth it?

If you want to have fun, sure, whether it's worth it is dependent purely on how antsy you are to play it. If you're trying to make a dent in the scene, find another fighting game to get into.
>Get a secondhand controller
>buy an adapter.
>download faster melee install ucf.
>shit controller is now good. We all use it now anyway.
>have to grind at any game to get good.
Done.
The game is fun and you don't need any of that. Get dolphin and play online.
The controller is only worth it at high levels of competitive play. The difference just makes shield dropping and fire fox angles more consistent. If you are that butt hurt, buy an ardunio controller.
>I need a console for a game???!!???
Go fuck yourself.
>Need a CRT
Again if your autism is in my play and you expect to perform perfectly at a competitive level.
Dweenos aren't necessary with ucf.
Monitors can induce lag with buffer to recreation crt. Difference is negligible. You can go to a tournament and there's plenty of set ups once your good. Or just go and have fun. The community is chill
I had assumed he'd complain about people having an unfair advantage. If he's discussing at a competitive level, he'll need the controller. If it's rando scrubs and wants to show off his dwangles, that by all means.
why did I loled
Oh damn you seem really knowledgable.
Are you a pro?
At a competitive level he wouldn't. Most tournaments and weeklies worth their salt run ucf. Can simply check beforehand prior to going.
I don't have a Dween or a molded controller and it performs well. Just the luck of the draw in the controller lottery. But again ucf makes it all a mute point.
>want to get into tennis
>have to buy a $250 Wilson Pro Staff RF97 Autograph
>have to buy $75 Nike Men's WInter RF Advantage Henley
>have to buy $50 Nike Men's Winter Ace 7" Shorts
>have to buy $135 Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour Flyknit Men's Shoes
>have to build a $65000 tennis court
Overall i have to pay $65510 if i am lucky. And then i have to grind for MONTHS just to get the basics down. Is it worth it?
Kill yourself you faggot and take your shitty bait with you.
Thanks.
>Is it worth it?
If you’re autistic then sure go for it, or if you don’t want to spend that much you could always get in to speedrunning
If your PC is good enough, just emulate the game. Get a Mayflash controller adapter and the cheapest official controller you can get. If the stick or buttons are bad, order OEM parts and swap them out yourself (The stickbox is the same one used in the classic controller and wii u pro controller, and new rubber pads for the buttons aren't too hard to find online). There's a pretty big melee netplay community, and assuming you already have a PC to play the game on, you'll be investing less. And you'll get to play PC games with a gamecube controller (the mayflash adapter supports dinput).
There are like 3 different official Gamecube controllers.
2001/02 version
2008 JP white
2014 smash 4
Which do i get?
If you have fun I guess yes. I spent around 300 bucks on Future Tone (controller and season passes, not counting the PS4 which I originally bought just for the game) and I'm loving every second of it.
If you're not diving straight into competitive, I would say go for whatever is the cheapest/most convenient. The 01/02 version is the best, but not by much, and it's more expensive than the 2014 version. I don't know much about the 08 version so it must not have been that special.
nobody "gets into" melee. It's a solved game and the tournament scene is comprised of the same
Can you explain this in a food analogy so I can understand it?
it literally has had a longer life then any competitive vidya game ever.
but sure it's dying.
it didn't have a "competitive" scene when it was new. It also has the smallest prize pools and haemorrhages viewer and competitor numbers with each subsequent tournament. Remember that The Simpsons is technically still on the air.
It's honestly amazing how Sup Forums knows nothing about anything.
Fuck off [competitive smash player], just because you use an incredibly rare bugged controller that lets you do inputs a microsecond faster than normal.
Hank ich bitte dich.
nobody will play comp melee in five years. How are new players supposed to get into it? Smash 4 has a chance if they release it on Switch but really it's time to accept it and say goodbye.
Don't bother. Melee is overpriced shit and the worst Smash game overall. You're not going to make any impact by going competitive tryhard.
Overpriced? Yo, how much does a copy of PAL melee without the manual go for?
Why 2023 specifically?
>It's a smashfag doesn't know about Super Turbo or Third Strike, or any actual fightan game episode
what a weird, nitpicky reply. Less interest in smash because of no new game. Less and less new players and a narrower window of entry every month. Completely "solved" in terms of new tech or """combos""" being discovered. Face it, it was a fun ride but this game no longer has legs.
Melee is a fun game to play with your friends retard, you don't need to """get into it"""
>>have to buy a 100-130€ controller
???
How about street fighter you dipshit
you need the gamecube controller that's defective in just the right way. I'm not even fucking kidding, that's how paper thin the competitive scene is.
It survived 2.5 new games in the series. Why would it die if no new game comes out? There is nothing like Melee out there, there is nothing to ''migrate'' to is what i am trying to say.
The only thing that might kill melee would be melee HD.
Is it bad I want OP to get into Melee just so by the time he's finally half decent, the game is totally dead?
No one wants to talk about it, but Melee threads are people just jacking off the gods and talking about how they match up. If even one of them quits, everything gets thrown off, since gap between players is just so fucking huge.
Where did you read that and what are you refering to?
LMAO fucking liar.
have you ever considered that we don't need it? You don't still get people pushing for SFIV at evo, people just move on.
Not him but:
