Nintend Switch 64GB carts delayed till 2019

>Nintendo is delaying the delivery of 64GB Nintendo Switch cartridges to outside game developers until 2019, reports The Wall Street Journal, which cites several people familiar with the matter. The WSJ notes that Nintendo planned to make the 64GB cartridges available in the second half of 2018, but pushed the date back due to technical issues. The sources said the move has brought “slight disappointment” to some developers, especially US publishers who often need the larger capacity for their data-heavy games. The WSJ says those developers now “may wait” for the larger cartridges to be available before releasing those games for the Switch.

HAHAHAHA!

Smaller games are usually better anyway

>the Switch will be somewhat safe from shit AAA games until 2019
Thank god.

meanwhile a small ps4 game will install 20gb if youre lucky, and games like cod are unapologetically 60-80+gb

wow, my life is ruined..........

This is a good thing. It means as long as I wait until 2019, there will simultaneously be new data-heavy games, and a switch price drop.

>literally nobody using the 32gb carts
>Oh no the 64gb are delayed

How will we cope?

As if publishers will even buy the 64gb cards. They wont even buy the 32gb cards now because theyre too cheap and just use extra download codes instead. Obviously Nintendo isnt making it easy for them with somewhat expensive cards.

Will Switch be a thing in 2019? Will video games be a thing?

This shit bothers the fuck out of me. GGXrd even with Rev 2 takes up 20gb on my shit all together but almost every game nowadays wants 40-50 just to install and dlcs are almost never compressed.

Fuck D44M and its DLCs on console wants 75gb altogether.

I'm from the future. On November 26th 2018 everyone that plays video games will be diagnosed with video game addiction disability and this will force governments to ban video games.

jew companies wont front the cash for it any way
they might as well not bother with it

This is why Nintendo gets shit support from third party. They have been cucking developers since the 80s.

Do you faggots not realize that you will be paying more for switch games because of Nintendo's shenanigans?!

no user, all within one fucking year a new console is going to come out that will make everyone completely forget about the switch, with new AAA titles and a unique portability feature.

fuckign retard

>brand new Switch game: $60
>brand new PS4 game: $60
really shook my brain up honestly

But it's worth it for the best experience that I, a gamer, can get.

>60 dollary doos for handheld games

what? more than $40? are you dumb

>LE HANDHOLD MAY MAY

they market it as a hybrid, as a console that you can pick up. It's only a hand held in your brainlet mind

This is how you kill third party support. Didn't this same shit happen back in the N64-era?

Try 70 bucks like the N64 games.

>maybe if i post it again it'll become true!

Nintendo embracing the spirit of the 'chip shortage' 80s and making sure the 64GB card gets introduced with a 1st-party title.

the third party devs so far haven't even used the available 32 gig cartridges. They've all been cheaping out and using 16 gig.

not to mention, most of the fucking space used on modern games are just a lack of optimization and compression at this point, AKA developer laziness

if Nintendo can fit xenoblade chronicles 2 on a 16 gig cartridge, NBA 2k18 shouldn't require me to fucking digitally download half of it for my physical copy.

Just popping in and I don't even own a switch. Isn't it basically a handheld with a A/V out? Wouldn't it be like calling the Gameboy a console because of that GC adapter where you could plug your cartridges in under it?

This isn't the same the only way it would be is if they were buying the 32gb catridges but in this "download the rest" industry they're cheaping out and buying the smaller ones

Nothing is going to change once the 64gb catridges release

No. That's what a lot of people call it, but here's why it isn't the case.

The power of it varies GREATLY depending on whether or not it's in its dock. In Xenoblade chronicles 2, its basically 480P most of the time, sometimes even lower than that, in handheld mode. The framerate will usually be fine though.

In dock though, its 720P consistently and i think goes up to 900P. the framerate is a consistent 30 FPS.

More importantly though, is the fact that the joy cons are a thing. The Joy Cons have motion controls and HD rumble, making it like having a Wii that you can pick up and play standard games on.

It's literally this, but dont tell that to the nintendo babies.

The switch becomes superpowered when you dock it

>making it like having a Wii that you can pick up and play standard games on
maybe if you have baby-sized hands. The joy-cons are probably the most uncomfortable controller I've ever used in my life. Everything is too tiny, the controller itself, the buttons, the sticks, the damn things are only barely usable with the controller shell.

>super powered
>not even hitting 1080p docked on some games

nintendo shooting itself in the foot as usual, imagine how dominant they could be if competent people were running it

You haven't used it if you think that T B H

i know my hands are larger than yours unless you're morbidly obese because im 220 lbs at 6'1

it doesnt even come close to 1080p docked

joycons are awful to use with big hands, you must have girl hands

>2018 in a week
>a modern system that can't display in 1080p

That is just pathetic. Where the hell does all that "super power" go when docked?!

>not to mention, most of the fucking space used on modern games are just a lack of optimization and compression at this point, AKA developer laziness

High resolution textures take side and decompression algorithms use CPU. Stop using "optimization" as a wildcard for shit you don't know anything about. There's always a trade-off involve

If by girl hands you mean im not 400 lbs, then yes, i have girl hands.

maybe you should try going for a walk some time big guy

if they can manage it in fucking xenoblade chronicles 2, they can manage it in most of these shitty ports.

Would it do that if you plug in an external battery pack and have another power supply connected, even though it's not technically docked? This sounds really bad since I want a switch as a handheld but when I watched my friend play bing bing wahoo on his TV, the resolution and frame rate were so much lower than I'm used to that there's no way I could ever play with it being even lower than that.

If Pikmin 4 comes out for this I'm obligated to get it, but Jesus Christ it can't even do 1080p 10 years after that was the standard. I really hope there's a revision.

im in great physical shape so its definitely not me thats the problem

Can you comfortably press all of the face buttons with your thumb? If you can't then your hands are smaller than mine and if you can then you're a liar when you say the controller isn't too small for you.

Is it really just cheapness/laziness, or is it an anti-piracy measure?

>i really hope there's a revision

I hope there isn't DESU, graphics at this point are overrated. maybe im just too old to care about FPS, but as long as its 30 its perfect to me.

I'm kinda tired of idiots talking about resolution as the be all end all, but i understand having preferences.

>would it do that if x y z

yes and there are third party things that function like that but they haven't worked the kinks out yet.

>can you comfortably press all of the face buttons with your thumb?

I can press 3 at a time. My hands are bigger than anybody i know except my cousin whos a lardass

oh god dont get a switch for a handheld console
>few hours of battery
>uncomfortable as hell
>shockingly bad graphics
>no games

I say I want a revision mainly because I watched my friend show me a dead switch due to playing for 3 hours on it's battery.

Xenoblade 2 runs and looks like ass

not in my experience. only 2 areas gave me frame drops in 70+ hours of play time and it was because i was fighting 8+ guys at once

oh. Yeah that's fair actually, the battery could be a lot better than it is.

>No publishers, you won't be getting the nes lock out chips you ordered, be happy with your million or we will slash it lower

With all the power a NiggerStation 4 and a Cuckshed One have, they still can't play Super Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild.

exactly my thoughts.
all those third party devs cheaping out using 16gb cards and then expecting players to download the rest.
Who the fuck is going to use the 64gb cards?
I just hope they start getting cheaper to manufacture because the fucking games should be on the actual fucking card. The full game.

Okay. Is this supposed to be a really bad thing? I mean it kinda sucks, but is it significant enough for a thread? What is there to discuss?

Funny thing is technically BotW's engine is much more impressive than Horizon's.

what engine?

Not that person, but it's a unique engine. It was built intended to be used for numerous Nintendo games, starting with BOTW.

Well considering its actual news and not another Twittercap /polb8 or eceleb thread I think this is more than justified to have thread about

>64gb cards get released
>They cost $1 more to produce
>Devs take this as an invitation to slap another $10 on the price of the game

>high resolution textures are the reason
First, most of the textures are barely 1080p. Second, it's uncompressed audio that takes up the majority of space, along with any video that may be used.

The switch is literally the worst of both handhelds and consoles.

>super power
Are you stupid? Is this your first time on the internet? Are you tech illiterate and thought somehow connecting a mobile chip to an outside power source would suddenly change the whole console, with RAM, graphics etc. into some kind of PS4 Pro?

>10 year old port on switch: $60
>10 year old port on PS4: $20
damn....

>Thinking anyone wants shitty, uncompressed games that take up 50-90 GB along with 30 gb day one updates
Save that garbage for PS4 and XB1

So incendiary for no reason.

Shouldn't devs be using the 32gb one in the first place? Not to mention the whole "buy an SD card for this game" applies even for sub 16gb games at the moment
