>It's a "Three failed retreats and four crits in a row lead to half your party dying to blight and smackdowns, completely disregarding deathblow resistance Christmas special episode"
I cannot describe the amount of anger I am feeling right now.
Darkest Dungeon thread
It's a "Three failed retreats and four crits in a row lead to half your party dying to blight and smackdowns...
Also what's up with these damage values? my weapon is fully upgraded.
It went back to normal once I won the first fight.
What fortunate timing.
Just after half my level 5 heroes died, and the rest were put in stress relief, the Shrieker decided to show up.
Fuck me.
>tfw week 10 and still no Houndmaster or Bounty Hunter.
git gud
I'm trying.
But the Champion missions will always be a pain until you get proper equipment and skills.
Why are you doing champion missions without the proper equips and skills, then?
Champion runs are the ones where you absolutely have at least max equip and a lineup that you are sure you can pull through
If you don't have enough money to buy skills and equips, do an easier quest or get an auntie, or both
>week 26 and no Abom
And nothing of value was lost. Also, that feel when coming back from a Siren fight where she didn't manage to THOTbait any of my party, ever, and I even brought the Antiquarian.
>bounty hunter comes with hard-skinned
>gets tough after his first mission
this fucker's gonna be hard to take down once I lock these in
I think you can guess why I did it.
I forgot something.
This mission reminded me.
But hey, at least I got some of the trinkets back.
>BH comes with +15% damage in warrens, +15% damage to beast
>gets +10% melee damage in his first run
Swine king, I look forward to meeting you on Champion.
>No Intimidate on the Leper
I specced my Hellion for MAXIMUM frontline damage, so he had to make due with position 2.
She died too.
Got the base game a few days back and am enjoying it quite a bit.
Are the DLC worth it? I'm kind of already planning on getting Crimson Court, but what about Shieldbreaker? Should I get that or nah.
never should of come here
Eh. Better to have trinkets back than nothing. Also, bring someone to stun next time you go to the weald. HM or MaM stop the giant in it's tracks.
Also, try to kill everything with DoT if you're up against the Virago.
Also
> Leper with Last Will & Testament
> Without Sun Ring
>bring arbalest, occultist, bounty hunter, and shieldbreaker with that trinket that gives +25% damage to marked targets
It seemed like a good idea, but in practice it kind of fell flat because in many cases it was better to just kill enemies in one turn instead of taking the time to mark.
is it worth to gid gud in this game?
Has this endless replaybility?
Marking-based parties are mostly for raping bosses like the Shambler. You can kill that sshole in like 3 turns.
Speaking of the shambler, WHY THE FUCK WON'T HE SHOW UP FOR ME?
IT'S LIKE WEEK 60 AND I'VE ONLY SEEN HIM ONCE
if you wander around with no torchlight apparently shambler has a 1% chance to replace any encounter, otherwise you could use the guaranteed altar things
The replayability is kinda limited, but considering how long time it takes to complete a single playthrough, you can put at least 100 hours into it easily
>1 playthough vanilla
>1 with Crimson Court
>1 Play it again once Color of Madness comes out
The DLC are worth it. I suggest getting them if you're enjoying the game, but I feel someone new should activate the CC after beating the game once.
You can activate parts of the DLC when you start a file, so you can choose to allow the Flagellant and Shieldbreaker to appear and not activate the Crimson Court
Shieldbreaker is ok, I'm having my share of fun with her
Flagellant is straight up OP and absolutely fun to use
4 dudes fresh from the wagon can win you this fight.
You dont have to kill him, just survive till he flees - hell they all coule die from heart attacks due to escape attack and you still would win
No shit, user. Mark parties work because they're balanced between heavy damage on their own, and massive damage to the mark. But you have to watch for the fact that Occult becomes a mandatory healer, and BH means you'll have a weaker frontline. My Mark party of choices tend to be
>Occult, Scoob, GR, BH
>Arba, Scoob, Scoob, Flag
>Arba, Occult, BH, Flag
Flag in general is a great addition to Mark parties because even though he doesn't benefit as greatly from it, his backup heals can save the fact that occult can whiff hardcore or that Occult can be saved instead for damage.
>take down a couple shamblers
>wanting to meet him again for trinkets
>altar finally shows up
>fucking R0 scoob, R0 MaA, R1 scoob and R1 Helion
Not even fucking once. There's a difference between bravery and foolishness.
>1%
12% on Champion.
>160 hours
>never beaten the game
>never even gotten to do a champion dungeon
>keep restarting mid-game because boredom, nerves or bad builds
what a cuck thing to say
>160 hours
>never beaten the game
Understandable.
>never even gotten to do a champion dungeon
Okay, you have a problem.
>git gud
>darkest dungeon
Mutually incompatible
The game is an RNG-cursed pile of shit for masochists
I'm okay with permadeath if it's because I'm shitty at the game (eg. Binding of Isaac, DSouls, etc) but this game requires PS1-era JRPG grinding and everything can be ruined by sheer RNG
Just my two cents - if I wanted a treadmill I'd go to the gym.
Oh shut up, there's actually not a whole lot of RNG in DD.
It lists the damage based on the mod of your last skill, if it had -80% you end up with low numbers.
Honestly I tend to reset before even doing yellow dungeons. I just love the early game and the formula doesn't really change as time goes on.
just focus on surviving and potentially taking out the nest. Don't even BOTHER with the dumb bird
Arbalest, vestal, houndmaster, occultist for safety
Arbalest, Occultist, Houndmaster, Bounty Hunter for nest killing while still potentially surviving
>ps1 era jrpg grinding
You have no fucking idea what you're talking about. Getting to max level was always easy and now it's even easier due to nerfs. In fact it's so fucking fast, all my team compositions get screwed up because of it. It's entirely possible to beat the game without losing a single character, all the way until the final battle.
Shield breaker skills all have such good utility I have trouble picking which ones to use sometimes.
maybe if you're a nolife that enjoys grinding bullshit
Certain classes really shine at high levels, like Grave Robbers. Also the dynamic of every battle changes: in early game the focus is to pump as much +dmg on your guys as possible kill things fast, late game switches modes by making crowd control (stuns, knockbacks/pulls, debuffs, etc) far more viable.
Why not just put 3 shieldbreakers and spam aegis?
You don't need to grind to do that. And
>muh life
Is not an argument.
Depends on the dungeon, I tend to stick with her spear charge, de-mark, shield buff and that OP broken ass high-crit blight retreat that does like 20 damage at R0.
Enter cove, pirhanas all crit my vestal, deathblow before I even have time to react
WOW great game design
Is there a benefit to killing either the nest or the birdo? Or is it just an OBJECTIVE: SURVIVE type of quest?
That's almost impossible. Why? Because the front rank fish can only attack your front ranks, while the back rank fish can only attack your back rank.
Your own fault for not having means to defend her with damage redirection or prot stacking. Or campfire buffs and bright torches for surprising enemies in high risk environments. Or speed on characters to get the first turn.
>4 positions in party
>over a dozen classes
>7 combat skills each
>2 trinket slots each
>up to a dozen quirks each
>up to a dozen quests to select from
>but if I had failed, I clearly couldn't change anything
literal cucks
>Having low speed
O I am laffin
Not that guy, but Spearfishing pulls your units forward on higher difficulties.
So in theaory, hitting his Pos 4 vestal would pull her forward into rank 2, where she can get raped by the other fishmen.
Though that would require almost impossibly bad luck.
So basically
>rank 3 fish spears Vestal in rank 4
>pulls Vestal to rank 3
>rank 4 fish spears Vestal in rank 3
>pulls Vestal to rank 2
>rank 1 fish slashes Vestal in rank 2
>rank 2 fish slashes Vestal in rank 2
Now all of this is indeed possible but the odds are staggeringly unlikely. Now factor in crits, Vestal dodge chance, Fish miss chance, and Death Blow resistance.
>actual cuck calls others cucks first thinking it will save him from being called out
Not how it works, cuckerino. You're too stupid to learn the rules of the game you're playing and no amount of buzzwords will help you save face on anonymous imageboard. You're retarded to even attempt doing it to begin with.
>Crit Treebranch Smackdown instagibs your party
>that fucking speedboar
There be riches in the nest.
I discovered there are things like backer NPCs and backer accessories they seem fairly powerful though and being able to choose the exact characters with good traits you want seems also really OP. I was wondering is it cheating to use either of these? The backer characters by themselves seem less OP then the accessories so maybe it's fine to use them but not the other?
It's weird to call something available in the unmodded game cheating though so maybe it's not cheating?
I'd be fine losing characters to RNG if they actually worked like soldiers in an army (the way that I expect to lose Marines, or for that matter Battlecruisers in a Starcraft battle even when I win that battle) but they work more like PCs in a D&D campaign - each character requires a lot of player time investment, so there's no such thing as going into a battle expecting non-zero "acceptable losses" past Apprentice level. But unlike D&D PCs, all heroes of a given class are essentially identical, and they don't gain new abilities as they level up, so there's nothing new you can do when you need to replace a dead high-level hero.
The type of people who consider that acceptable are the same people who think it's OK to buy GTA Shark cards - either they have no respect for their own time, or they've got money to burn.
killing the bird gives you a higher chance of obtaining positive quirks unique to him. It's not worth the trouble
killing the nest can give (on Champion level) 3-5 trapezohedrons, which is a nice burst in money for a short dungeon
both are optional as it's technically still an OBJECTIVE: SURVIVE mission
sounds like you're a triggered cuck
It's a single player game, just do what you want
do whatever you want, man, the game doesn't even lock achievements for modded games so they clearly have no qualms about people being greasy fucking cheaters
Should I go for it?
I'm still shaken from the loss of my dudes from a while ago, but I REALLY want that trinket.
I was having fun playing DD, carefully planning my inventory with what I knew from the map was pretty cool Then I arrived at a short map, got 4 hunger events, and my party got wiped Uninstall.exe immediately, I don't care about critical hits or misses, I'm used to that from Xcom and other RPGs, what I am upset about is how there's stuff that's completely out of your reach and completely out of your knowledge. I didn't know hunger events were dictated by RNG, I supposed it was related to distance walked but nope. Walk 4 tiles, game decides I'm hungry, walk another 4 tiles, game decides I'm hungry and lose 20% HP and leaving my party half dead because reasons
sweet design
I'm planning to use her mostly for the Cove. Given that she can break guards, ignore armor, and hit with blight. Those are kind of key elements for killing fishmen.
I think for starters I need to put in her back step bleed, the one where she doesn't move does more DPT but it benefits from mark which I don't use so much given my OCC is usually hitting people for the weak debuff instead.
So far in the cove I've often been running with Arb, Occ, SB, MaA. Spam the dodge buff and guard my squishys with MaA. Weaken and stab for dope eldritch crit kills with OCc and heal as needed. Arb just pokes the back line, fires flares, and emergency heals. SB idk, I try and use her skills for what they are for breaking guard and piercing armor, but her armor pierce stab still feels like it does shit damage to high prot fish so what's the point?
Oops, didn't mean to reply.
>antiquarian in Pos 1
>sending Dismas on a potential suicide mission
>fucking Occultist as 2nd strongest DPS
u avin a laff m8?
not actually worth it, the whole thing's kind of a waste of time IMO
BRING YOUR MAN-AT-ARMS, YOU FUCK
Antiquarion synergizes amazingly with Duelist's Advance, what are you on about?
And this is in The Cove, so Abdul will actually be really strong here.
Darkest Dungeon in two words:
>pointless grind
Fuckit, going in.
Sounds like you got reminded hard, the goal is finishing the mission. The heroes are just a means to that end.
Don't name them and don't get attached. Stagecoach always brings more, and upgraded it brings them at higher levels.
>if they actually worked like soldiers in an army
Was the last time you played it in the beta? Just get experienced recruits upgrade in the stagecoach, lmao.
>there's nothing new you can do when you need to replace a dead high-level hero
Every team has different synergies and tactics, plus the quirks, plus the trinkets, plus the camp buffs.
f
I hope Dismas gets raped by fishmen you idiot.
Your post in two words:
>Reddit spacing
Give me the lowdown on popular mod classes.
>oh no I can't actually come up with a rebuttal
>better call him a redditor!
fffuucking christ I forgot how hard these guys hit on Champion.
It's fine though. He'll make it.
That's a dizzying blow, baby!
HOPELESS
Yeah whatever Wayne, I got this in the bag!
PLAGUE DOCTOR IS CUTE
CUTE
>all the people ITT who don't prepare themselves and get angry when they suffer the consequences
OH NONONONO FUCK THAT
seriously no.
I'm btw
>something is unlikely, not impossible
>WOW I guess it didn't happen after all
literal brainlets in this thread
Been fooling around with the ghost calvary guy. Looks great and a good concept of a fighters/support that bounces from 1st to 4th position. I just need to figure out the proper skill mix to use him best, and if he gets pushed out of either 1st or 4th he's totally useless so you need to be prepared for that and have a party comfortable getting shifted a bit.
I'm not the only one who REALLY wants to fuck the Countess? There is no porn of her, I have this same problem with Isabella von Carstein from Total Warhammer
>11
They hit that hard on fucking casul, prepare your anus for that first 30dmg crit.
Please work on your reading comprehension.
sick blog
I haven't really felt one way or the other. Now starting to hate the fanbase.
>say anything
>REMINDED
Why, for talking about a game on Sup Forums?
They just hit for 17 on the previous turn.
I'm good though. These two goobers have this in the bag.
If you had brought a PD instead of a Vestal, you probably could plow through the chamber... after finishing the quest, of course
because of all the braindead cucks that enjoy eating shit
Curious is the trapmaker's art.
If you looked at my roster here, you'd see that I'm a bit limited in terms of my options.
Now THIS made me think
Such argument....
Such use of words....
Damn
>such reddit memes
How do (You) know?
It's the same as Dark Souls. You come bitching at the game, you get told. DD is more complicated, so you even get a more detailed scolding than git gud.
You come with a desire to improve, and you get swarmed with tips.
It's a stock 'git gud' response, and 'we all know that feel' in one, it's great.
Tough luck, m8. At least you're super safe with both vestal and occultist.
Just get rich and get out
Its not eating shit though. Its hard but its all doable. Just before you set out check EVERYTHING. Also remember you are never rushed for time when choosing what to do in combat. Hell, if things are going reslly bad for you, just check the fucking wiki for a good strategy. There is also no way to lose (except on the hardest difficulty) so no matter how dire your losses you can always rebuild and eventually win. It's hard, but there is no greater feeling then finally beating the Countess after she killed 9 other heroes during 3 other failed attempts.
