The people who are trying to sell it to you, because that's how they make a living.
Law enforcement, because it's their job to care if your actions are violating the law.
The people who bought it because you make them feel like suckers.
Hey, can you let me copy your credit card info?
Reminder that buying a used game has the same effect as piracy.
No sweetie it doesnt...
If piracy is not theft and the developer loses nothing, let's all pirate games. I'm sure that will have no effect whatsoever in the videogame industry.
Only when you are pirating a game that can no longer be bought.
That's not piracy.
Piracy would be "Hey, can you let me copy your money?"
this
No it doesn't and neither does borrowing games. If I lend my game to you I can't play the game when you have it. If someone pirates my copy of the game literally millions of people can play the game simultaneously from one $60 copy.
Pirates never consider the scope of the crime.
If companys want people to buy their games, why do they treat the conumers like shit?
>hurr hurr me printing more money doesn't make your dollar any less valuable
Oh wait it actually does...
You're just assuming that it would have a negative effect, which is debatable. Also, what you're saying is a hypothetical fantasy scenario so it doesn't even matter. There will never be a situation where everybody pirates all games.
Most buyers don't care all that much, or if they do they're not passionate about it. Don't let falseflags on Sup Forums make you think that all buyers fucking hate pirates.
goys, err, i mean guys... please stop pirating games.
We (the modern gaming industry) truly care about video-games.
>Pirates never consider the scope of the crime.
No, buyfags only care about hypotheticals and "potential" problems of piracy, not reality.
I think it's mostly just shitposting to start "wars". I couldn't care less what random people in the interwebs do or don't do with their money.
stop arguing with delusional buyfags
let them garble on corporate dick all they want, what do you care you newfaggots?
Fanboys and sunk cost fallacy. They paid 50+ bux for a game, you better believe they are goddamn going to defend it over admitting its shit.
>chairs are less valuable because literally anyone can make one
>You're just assuming that it would have a negative effect, which is debatable.
Devaluing a game is unquestionably negative.
fucking this, unless the game is really good and the devs give a shit I pirate that shit
faggot
daily reminder not to argue with newfaggots and just call them out on their faggotry :7)
This. It's less than 1% of people who are extremely anti-piracy, but it seems like more on the internet because they're really obnoxious and feel the need to voice their dumb opinions any time they can.
As a pirate I goddamn do not want to pay a product 60 bucks of which I know little to nothing and probably without a playable demo.
b-but goyim, you just have to trust us.
Piracy is definitely theft. That info-graphic doesn't make sense.
Traditionally pirates straight-up stole goods. They didn't make copies of a ships treasure and sail off, they stole all of it. The only reason a copy is left behind in the digital world is BECAUSE we are able to easily replicate files in a digital space. Doesn't make it not theft.
That being said, Im all for grand theft software. Keep on keepin on, but stop lying to yourself. Stop trying to justify piracy - just admit that it is what it is: we dont want to pay for shit. At the most, we only want to pay for shit we REALLY like.
That's because you know you're wrong
This pic assumes that a pirate cares if a game it's released on certain consoles.
I don't even care, do you think everyone has the same moral compass as you?
Why should I feel sorry for some millionaire jews that miss out on my 60 shekels because I refuse to support the direction that modern gaming is heading in?
If you support the modern AAA-gaming industry you unironically deserve to be gassed.
fuck off with your whiteknight moralfag bullshit, this is Sup Forums, go back to
>the value of data depends entirely on the number of its copies
But somehow it's fine when the publisher releases a million copies onto the market?
You first have to prove I have a moral duty to pay for video games
>People sincerely believe that paying people in "exposure" is better than actually supporting them
M8 arguing from etymology is the dumbest shit
you'd think after this thread has been around for nearly a decade people would stop posting in it
but alas, here we are
Unironically this, but with less edgyness
>Stop trying to justify piracy
I don't think that was the point. It's simply explaining that stealing and pirating are substantially different, not trying to say it's morally ok to pirate.
>theft deprives the company a sale
>piracy deprives the company a sale
>he doesn't know
You'd think after AC it's been released on a yearly basis people would stop buying it
but alas, here we are.
But that's what copying his credit info does
Because I like niche games. The kind of games I like rarely get made, rarely are made well, and rarely are successful.
>not trying to say it's morally ok to pirate.
who even gives a shit? This is Sup Forums? Last time I checked we are okay with conjuring happenings that kill people and getting people to an hero
>not playing that game deprives the company a sale
>living in Uzbekistan deprives the company a sale
>being a polar bear deprives the company a sale
>not liking a game deprives the company a sale
>Let's Plays deprive the company sales
This was fun. We should do it again.
Because, Haters got to hate.
But i like animal crossing
Why the fuck do you think Nintendo has been trying to co-opt Let's Plays?
but i like Anal Cunt's albums user
>i wouldn't have bought that game anyways so you don't really lose a sale hehe.
No u
This whole debate is so fucking stupid. Anyone who isn't literally retarded can see that pirating games has a negative effect on the devs. You can make the argument that "well, I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't steal it for free", okay, but that's you, that doesn't mean there aren't millions of other people who WOULD have purchased it. By pirating, you are directly depriving a dev of a sale, and helping to deprive them of future sales by assisting other people in pirating. This ridiculous argument of "LOL I DIDN'T TAKE ANYTHING AWAY, I MADE A COPY" needs to go -- you cannot apply physical rules to a digital product, it doesn't work like that. If we lived in a world where you could make copies of a fucking banana then it would be different, but you can't. Therefore, you have to judge things differently. Piracy may not be directly as harmful as stealing something from a store, but it is still harmful, and it has an exponentially damaging effect.
If you want to pirate, it's your life. I'm not going to scream at you and tell you not to do it, but at least have the decency to call and a spade a spade and admit that your actions are wrong. This is the ONE and ONLY answer, anyone who argues in favor of piracy is stupid as fuck and doesn't deserve to have an opinion.
>Japan has many court laws about copyright infringement and protecting against piracy
>Sup Forums loves them
>food analogy
...
By that logic you can't buy digital games. Why isnt there a fancy word for digital buying too then?
>buy physical
>you get a copy
>buy digital
>you just clone it bro
>Let's Plays deprive the company sales
This
>tl;dr I'm a huge faggot, also a huge newfaggot (look at my faggot filename)
>tl;dr I'm a huge faggot, also a huge newfaggot (look at my faggot filename)
>pirating games has a negative effect on the devs
No, it literally doesn't. Most, if not all, developer studios are already paid by the game is shipped out. Very rarely, a publisher will sign a royalties contract with developers, but this pretty much doesn't happen these days due to corporate greed.
If you pirate a game, all it does is piss off the publisher's stockholders. There is no other tangible effect.
>By pirating, you are directly depriving a dev of a sale
Because if you believe in god then morals are based on what He has deemed them to be based on, in which case theft is explicitly wrong, biblically. Software piracy is most definitely theft as the acquisition of a good without paying for it is considered theft in any circumstance if the creator of said good has declared they expect to be paid for any usage or consumption of the good. This is an implied value in modern times, pleading ignorance is simply no option here.
If you do not believe in god, morals are dictated by the majority of society - what is normal and proper vs. what is abnormal or improper. Humans with a properly functional and developed brain are basically hardcoded by default to have empathy for other people. The lack of this is literally a mental illness, which mean people essentially operate on the "do unto other as you would have them do unto you" passage without even having to be told to them by God. Even rats do this in test scenarios, they inherently help other rats while helping themselves over JUST helping themselves, if they can.
So, society has deemed theft to be morally wrong by the majority knowing that taking something that isnt yours or is expected to be paid for is considered incorrect behavior.
>game doesn't sell because people stole it instead of buying it
>game gets no sequel / dev goes bankrupt
>NO TANGIBLE EFFECT BRO
>he thinks he owns digital games
>current year
>lending games
>not copy and paste onto a fucking flashdrive

“Piracy”
Publishers often refer to copying they don't approve of as “piracy.” In this way, they imply that it is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them. Based on such propaganda, they have procured laws in most of the world to forbid copying in most (or sometimes all) circumstances. (They are still pressuring to make these prohibitions more complete.)
If you don't believe that copying not approved by the publisher is just like kidnapping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it. Neutral terms such as “unauthorized copying” (or “prohibited copying” for the situation where it is illegal) are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as “sharing information with your neighbor.”
A US judge, presiding over a trial for copyright infringement, recognized that “piracy” and “theft” are smear words.

lmfao newfaggot
Pirates couldn't give two shits about buyretards, im actually glad that gullible suckers like that exist so I can keep getting free shit.
Buyniggers are mad that pirates get the same exact product that they pay for, for free. So they have to vent now and again to relieve the frustrations.
The Dreamcast died a horrible death because of piracy, too.
>Potential Earnings vs. Lost Earnings: The Posts
>lmfao newfaggot
Literally the only argument you have. Also, learn how filenames work.
>Literally "IM SILLY" the comic
>Piracy hurts sales
>CoD, FIFA selling like hot cakes
There's already enough idiots sustaining the industry. Who cares if some poorfags pirate the game?
>in before someone links the EU study that shows that piracy does harm only hot new releases as evidence that piracy has no effect.
>implying Sup Forums is about arguments
lol wtf is going on? Are you new on this andalusian scrimshaw forum?
>p-piracy doesn't hurt anyone
>what if every single person pirated the game?

>lol wtf is going on? Are you new on this andalusian scrimshaw forum?
It's only not about arguments when you don't have one.
Holy fuck we got shitters actually defending being a piece of shit, seriously stop posting.
...
thats right, you can still """"buy"""" them though
so wheres the word that parallels piracy
>whatthefuckdidijustread.gif
stop posting your or tumblr reaction gifs, you faggot.
go back wherever you came from
fucking embarassing newfag
No it isn't if person A has $50 and person B copies that money they each have $50. If person B copies person A's credit card info then there's only $50 between the two of them and Person B has as much control over Person A's money as Person A.
Copying person A's money would have no effect on Person A.
The question that stumped piratefags
>because I’m a communist
Fify
Not him but not really sure what you're getting at here.
Ancaps hate intellectual property way more than communists do
>Sup Forums is about arguments and serious discussion, especially with newfags like me!
Nigga lol
>>game doesn't sell
Then it wasn't a game worthy of investing into in the first place. It's logical that the publisher would then drop the studio. If you make an appealing product, people are going to buy it regardless of DRM. Moreover, if a game gets pirated a lot, that is also indicative of interest, not to mention free advertising.
In the scenario you propose, the game clearly wasn't good enough of a product, and the developers have failed at their job. They still get paid, though.
Your new is showing dumbfuck.
Except more currency in circulation devalues the original $50...
It’s like Sup Forums didn’t take basic economics in high school.
>I have no argument, therefore Sup Forums is only a place to call people autistic
Just stop posting and lurk moar, ffs.
why post
>durr i am too new to understand, what is this about
just fucking lurk moar you fucking niggers

Copying his credit info just opens the door for you to steal his money. You gain the money he loses. Copying money, if it were possible, would imply you made a direct copy of all his money. He keeps his money while you gain the money you copied from him.
>"Stop saying piracy bad because I don't want to feel bad about doing it."
Ancaps don’t support the theft of another persons work.
I mean, I get it, you're upset about filenames, I just don't really see why. Do you understand how saving a picture works? Sorry you're a faggot, I guess?
Licensing. You're licensed to play a game you "bought"
