Shiki is more generic but not as much as you make it sound. He's not edgy without the triggered Nanaya instincts, he's just genuinely an asshole to even people who he considers his friends (Arihiko) because he hates the world and his own painful existence. This is how he develops in the VN, he learns to enjoy life, and is thankful for getting to live more, despite having less time than most people.

Meh, that's not a big deal at all. The original VN already hints at a hopeful future in that ending, a direct continuation would have to obviously build on that.
FGO isn't even that bad for retcons, it just has terrible game/story/characters in general. And shit like EMIYA getting to live a happy Chaldea life with shitty fanservice Servants of all his family and friends ruins Fate/stay night way more than anything KT does for Tsukihime.

Besides the healing end, Kohaku's also has the best scene in the entire game.

A great overall experience, make sure to play through near side routes before the far side routes. It's best experienced by going
Arc > Ciel > Akiha > Hisui > Kohaku > Sacchin

Afterwards if you liked it, work through Plus Disc, Kagetsu Tohya, and then the Melty Blood story modes starting with the earlier MB releases

Well, that's exactly what I was saying. KnK is just as minimalistic in its fights, and the novels are even less flashy than the Tsukihime VN (except the Touko vs Alba that didn't make it into KnK 5 movie). Adaptations usually expand on that for some eye candy.
