Just finished this, can we talk about it? I had already played the first Max Payne but not to completion and this one caught my eye from the trailers, reviews etc.
I really loved the story because of the character of Max, how he's this heavily depressed, cynical and angry mess going through hell. You really feel sorry for the guy but at the same time he's pretty charismatic. Main complaint I always hear is the setting and departure from the traditional noir style. I personally loved it but I wasn't really attached to the other installments in the series, anyways. The score, also, is really good. youtube.com/watch?v=RXuP0hRJMm0 youtube.com/watch?v=zEH_LSL4rVw I like to think of the game as a consistent whole wherein the story and style are as important as the gameplay. It aims to be a cinematic shooter and, imo, it succeeds in a good way. I guess the complaint about the cutscenes is sound, though, at least for a second playthrough.
I should probably play 1 and 2 but I'm trying out the online a bit (and I fucking suck at it so far).
-The story is so bleak and Max slowly fails his mission so horribly as the family dies one by one in horrific ways. -It really has that epic action hero feel just gritty and really dark -It's kinda neo-noir for lack of a better term and we get regular old school Max Payne missions as well -GOTY soundtrack -It's very, very linear and onesided, but the amount of detail that went into the effects, gore, tiny detailed destruction(papers, garbage flying) is so well done it never gets old. -The cutscene thing is true, does get a bit tedious -Been to Brazil a lot and it was fun to understand some of the dialogue and see just how much they nailed the environment of both the favelas and the wealthier areas, they really did their homework.
All in all I had a blast playing through it and I have probably cleared it 4-5 times, tried to do all the challanges and trophies too.

Bump. Wow, nobody interested in Max Payne 3 tonight.

Not gonna let this die just yet though.

Funny, I hated Telltale's Walking Dead for a long time because of Max Payne 3. They came out at the same year and when TWD won as Game of the Year I couldn't believe. MP3 is a great game, underrated for sure, the setting, characters and story are perfect for the period that Max is in his life. One of the best Rockstar games for sure.
Very few games manage to create such an intense feeling of closing in on the end.

>-It's very, very linear and onesided, but the amount of detail that went into the effects, gore, tiny detailed destruction(papers, garbage flying) is so well done it never gets old. This. Every location feels real due to the amount of details put in it. Some shootouts feel like the'yre straight from an action movie like the airport and police station.

Or the bank office when you just open the doors and jump straight into a room full of people, papers and soon to be shards of glass flying throught the air. I genuinely reloaded that checkpoint for an hour just playing with the bullet time. How rockstar didn't add that to GTAV is unforgiveable.

>How rockstar didn't add that to GTAV is unforgiveable. I remember how everyone was in awe with the gameplay trailer for gta v and how the shooting looked straight from MP3. Unfortunately the movements for gta felt way too sluggish to even come close. That was part of the disappointment for me. GTA needed to refine its mechanics as the simple meshing of different style of gameplay in an open-world just couldn't do it, and its mechanics ended up being shit.

>tfw this will never be real
Kevin Lopez
The most provoking aspect is that they implemented prone straight out of Max Payne 3 for Trevor lying on the airplane wing in ONE moment of ONE mission. I mean why? It's just a sudden reminder of what could have been.

bump
Levi Phillips
it's the worst 3rd person shooter ever made
Owen Taylor
The level design in this game was absolute dogshit.
Kevin Ward
Man on fire with more alcohol and less lolis, it's a fun 3rd person shooter
Benjamin Brooks
Maybe they had the online aspect in mind, imagine 16 retards flying around firing their guns plus the engine wouldn't be able to deal with that. They don't even let you enable the ragdoll mode while you're in online mode

Why does Max Payne 3 + John Wick music work so well?
it's probably the best max payne game but nostalgiafags will not agree
Julian Parker
Excellent game, the best Rockstar has made in more than a decade if we leave RDR behind.
Played MP2 only beforehand, and yes, its better written, and also great but MP3 is a completely different beast. The gameplay is just pure gold.
Jack Hill
>LA Noire got a remaster and this didn't
Austin Rogers
Could have had it singleplayer only, hell, give me a limited area like a Trevor hideout, the airstrip with hangar where I can get the cops and have all the bullet time jumping I want.
Joshua Brooks
>MP3 remastered so you can skip the cutscenes yes please
Nathaniel Turner
This. It needed to combine the best from GTAIV and MP3 instead of dumbing everything down in 5.
Elijah Parker
I blame last gen consoles

Because Max Payne 3 is the closest thing we have to a Wick videogame.
