PS3 Fat, to this day, remains the only modern console that was actually worth owning.

DualShock 3 is the worst controller. It's cheap feeling and fucks up eventually. Triggers make fps games a joke on ps3. Thank god you can use DualShock 4 for non-pressure sensitive face button games.

>didn't play either

PS3 was backwards compatible?

Yeah that sucks big time. Thank god Codemasters and EA done away with that shit.

$599.99c U.S. Dollars

>best lineup of exclusive titles
Unlike the LameStation 3 the Wii and 360 had games.

First model was. Then they took out PS2 hardware backwards compatibility to reduce costs.

Got one for 250 that came with two controllers and red dead redemption

The CHECHA01 model (launch 60gb) had PS2 hardware in it. It was able to play any PS1 and 90% of PS2 games. Not only that, it could play them with customized graphics settings like enhanced colors and smoother textures.

underage out

Literally no one bought it at that price, kek.

>a bunch of useless shit that no one used or cared about

I like the Switch because it literally just plays games. I don't want my console to be a gimped PC.

Thanks. I had the fat ps3 but not from launch.

that one could still play PS1 games

I managed to sell my PS3 to a coworker of mine for around 300 bucks, and it had an interesting assortment of games. Most of them were second hand games from Gamestop from those "buy three games for 5 dollars" bin just to pad out the game size, and MGS4 as that is the PS4's biggest game and only cost a buck.

I've been flipping various consoles with a small assortment of cheap games for good prices, so I wonder if the PS3 and 360 are good candidates for flipping.

>best Dual Shock controller of all time
c'mon now

I don't give a fuck about Linux. But my understanding of why people cared is that it's just an OS that has light requirements, and is actually free. Placed on something like a PS3 it'd let you run emulators and other general computer usage. None of which matters, but why not have it?

Yep. I have the MGS4 model. It can play all my PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. It's pretty rad.

It's sad how the PS3 actually lost features as time went on. The older models were backwards compatible, had memory card readers so you could use your old PS1 and PS2 save files, had more USB ports, gave you the ability to install different operating systems, etc.

Only if you owned a complete 100% un-updated, original released machine which you could make use of the linux features to the full extent
Which means if you do, you won't be making use of the messaging because it'll update if you go online

>tfw can't do anything on ps4
>they expect you to stream everything despite having a hard drive
>can't download film rentals from ps store; have to rely on dynamic quality streaming
>can't play music cds or rip them
>can't play soundtracks from ps store; have to transfer them to usb

and it costs $900 to make, not exactly a bad deal to say the least

probably not right now, nobody really wants them
but you could buy them super cheap now and sell them later on

>RDR on PS3

>Hates DS3
>loves DS4
t. autistic normie

>gave you the ability to install different operating systems, etc.

The way Sony removed those features gradually through system updates was pretty shitty of them, especially since there are people who paid FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS for it when it had those features.

They went insane with the DRM and anti piracy on the PS4. Do they still force you to log in with your real name and address just to use the thing? I know at one point they even wanted to use face identification to allow users to log on.

At least, any of the PS3s that can be hacked and/or have PS2 back compat. I don't think neither the PS3 nor the 360 will have anything like the "Nintendo Tax" in the used market, like how the NES and more egregiously SNES do.

DS4 is vastly superior to DS3.

t. nintennigg.

the red dead redemption 2 announcement got me wanting to play 1 again, I had it on PS3 and had since moved on to PC gaming on a 144Hz monitor
good lord does RDR look and run like complete ass
you get used to it after a while

It is. The only competition is PS1/2. PS4 is shit. It's shitty in my hands, that touch thing cripples its battery life, and makes connecting the thing to a PC a pain.

It didn't make much sense to provide all those features. Most people don't care about backwards compatibility. They just want the next greatest thing of the moment.

ps3 was a fucking mystery. It was like they were trying to replace your console, your computer, and every box sitting next to your TV.

Why the hell does that thing have a CF port

DualShock 3 was automatically better than the 360 or Wii controller simply because it didn't need batteries.

it wasn't really that bad

lol they're being sold for $150 (canadian btw) + a whole lot of games right now
good luck competing with that

touched a nerve with the normie, you gonna hiss at me and flip me off with your fidget spinner gizmos you autist?

>INB4 he replies back

sorry faggot, i play my games on PC, take your autistic screeching somewhere else; retard

if only it didn't have that touchscreen, light bar, speaker and microphone
what the fuck were they thinking

two steps forward (triggers and analogs) 10 steps backwards

I wish I still had that picture of a guy who got banned for saying the PS3 would be the winner of that generation early into it

Sup Forums is so contrarian I guarantee the PS4 will suddenly become a great console with tons of games the second the PS5 is a thing

>Do they still force you to log in with your real name and address just to use the thing?

I don't recall that ever being a thing. But if it was, I just used a fake name/address without even noticing...

It's a better controller. A little cheap feeling still but better. My PS1 controller feels like it was well made compared to recent PS controllers.

See when you hold an Xbox One controller it feels so much more ergonomic and comfortable. The only thing I hate about Xbox controllers is they don't use flat buttons like PlayStation.

What's funny is that they're now being sued over removing the linux functionality. Recently got an email because I bought a PS3 on launch in 2006. Apparently I can get $65 from the whole ordeal.

Same thing happened with the Vita too, I got $50 from a false-advertising lawsuit against them.

HAHAHHAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHA

>ike how the NES and more egregiously SNES do
fucking tell me about it with the SNES

I think some of the better overlooked PS3 games that werent remastered have potential to be worth some coinage as time goes on
you got me thinking about scapping up some PS3 hidden gems and filling out my PS3 library while theyre cheap

I wish all consoles were backwards compatible

It did really cool things with photos. Like say you came back from vacation with a card full of pics, you could pop it into the PS3 and it would automatically bring up this gallery on your TV that would showcase them in all kinds neat 3D ways.

lord knows they do it with GTA IV, so anything is possible

You're retarded

>PS3 games that werent remastered
cant remaster what doesnt exist

Meh, the differences between the PS3 and 360 version have always been greatly exaggerated. Yes, the 360 version is undeniably the best of the two but the PS3 version isn't drastically worse. It just has a little less vegetation and has a harder time with fps in some spots.

Playing the 360 version on Xbone is hands down the best way to play the game. The fact that Rockstar won't port such a popular, high selling, well received game to PC or modern consoles boggles the mind.

It was not better at all. Having an internal battery is never a good thing for the longterm. I can easily replace AA batteries in other controllers because AA is a standard, common battery type. I usually need to replace the rechargeable ones every two years. I can't really do that with the ps3 controller and its proprietary battery.

Controllers needing batteries is retarded.

DS3 uses batteries though, you dolt. How do you think it stays on when it's not plugged in?

>paying ass raping prices for batteries
or
>waiting an hour charging the controller
fyi, you have to pay those ass raping prices again and again, since batteries still die

Only real downside was

Rockstar want to keep it on consoles because they're harder to hack for microtransactions and dlc. That's where their main audience is. I bet GTA V isn't anywhere as popular on PC as it is on consoles.

>Apparently I can get $65 from the whole ordeal.

Sweet, that's just enough to buy a new game after tax.

It was too good for its own good.

Recently hacked my fat, gave it a new lease of life after its disc drive died.

>Most people don't care about backwards compatibility.

You should go back and watch the last two Microsoft E3 conferences to see that you couldn't be more wrong.

MGS4 and Demon's Souls are two of them. I don't Sega is rehash-happy yet to remake Yakuza 3 onwards, though Zero and Kiwami are both PS3 games ported to PS4. What about 3D dot kingdom or whatever it was called, from From Soft?

Golly user, you're right. Praise Sony for making all sorts of fail proof AA replacements

you are the only triggered here, little shit.

You're either deliberately misinterpreting what I said or you are literally unable to understand context. Obviously I know that it had a battery in it but unlike the 360 and Wii controllers it doesn't use AA batteries that you need to replace once a week. Fucking Wii controllers use the battery up even when you aren't playing it.

Every PS3 can play PS1 games

3d dot game heroes is still dirt cheap and will probably never see a remaster, i never see anyone talk about outside of Sup Forums

You can put rechargeable batteries into the controllers, user. Then they charge whenever it's plugged in. With the PS3/4 though, you're shit out of luck with those batter start to die. You have to buy an entirely new controller at that point.

I only remember it for the old spice inspired youtube ad.

Sure, but the slims were much more reliable, even if it lacked native ps2 support. Most original fats are prone to failure after a while if you haven't replaced the thermal paste.

sega recentlyish reprinted yakuza 1-4

you're triggered enough to give me (you)s

underage retard

Yeah, they were basically trying to do what all those failed consoles in the 90s (CD-I, 3DO, etc) tried to do. They wanted to replace every other entertainment device in your house and turn your television into one all encompassing entertainment hub. It damn near became one of those failed boxes because of it.

I mean, I admire their aspirations but someone somewhere lost touch with reality at Sony during that time. It's like they were so high on their massive PS2 success that they thought there was no way the PS3 wouldn't fly off the shelves no matter how much the asking price was.

There are a bunch of great little games on the PS3 which will never see a remaster. But I'd rather not have them keep on re:releasing garbage forever, it's better this way

PS3 was my console of choice during the gen, but it's so forgettable that I could not name any games I have for it outside of Souls without looking.

Surely the reason PS4 is running FreeBSD.
Windows works on nothing in total. Linux and BSD actually have quite a wide range of architectures they support. It was thus paramount for PS3 and the fact they stuck with it despite making an AMD64 machine says a lot. So does Switch, BTW.

because there weren't any

i find the remaster trend a little odd but I mean it makes sense because it makes money
personally I would prefer a robust classics library on PSN for preserving the games and having them available on modern platforms for new players

>Fat

Jesus what the fuck user

The PS3 fat is literally the worst fucking console ever

>599$
>released with no gaems
>best model only has 80gb HDD, and they still had the nerve to fucking remove that version's PS2 backwards compability
>xboxhueg
>load as fuck and it will fuck you in the electricity bills
>YLOD is now more common than the fucking RROD

>what the fuck were they thinking

Innovation. The thing is when you make console A nearly identical to console B in terms of hardware architecture and then add on secondary features, chances are developers who aren't developing games exclusively for your console aren't going to do anything with said features. This is the same reason literally no dev does anything with Kinect on XB1.

I'm actually not against those things being in the PS4 controller, but I really wish there was a way to turn the lightbar off. It kills the battery way too fast.

It's not just Sony, Nintendo even figured out it was a good idea. The Wii U controllers don't need batteries and I don't own a Switch but I'm assuming that doesn't either since its also a portable system. Only Microsoft are still stubbornly using AA batteries...

The library is largely dongs, there's definitely a few standouts but you're right that it's largely forgettable. But I feel the same about the 360 and Wii. Video game libraries don't start to get really good until you look back at the PS2 generation, mostly because there was just so much to go around at that time.

>With the PS3/4 though, you're shit out of luck with those batter start to die. You have to buy an entirely new controller at that point.

Not entirely true. You can replace the battery. But unless you're looking for a PS4 controller battery you're going to be buying aftermarket Chinese garbage.
A better option is to actually smash your Sony Li-ion battery out of its plastic shell. Look at its specs and buy a similar Li-Po cell, solder it into the old shell as needed and tape the piece of shit back together

You can replace the hard drive at least though.

Even had the best mascot of all video game history.

That's not Segata Sanshiro

>Nintendo even figured out it was a good idea.

Nintendo was selling replacement Wii U batteries for $69.99. Of course it's a good idea for them.

Fuck off, weeb.

I've had my PS3 since 2008 and both my controllers still work on their original batteries.

Your argument that you might just have to buy a new controller after ten years because the battery is hard to replace makes constantly having to spend money replacing AA batteries better because AA batteries are easy to find, well, that's a pretty fucking stupid argument.

>Thinking about buying a PS3 soon for Demon's Souls
I need some other PS3 games to justify dropping $120+

>tfw Sony sued him for being in a Nintendo commercial

>$900 to make
>subjective
>upgradeable hard disk drive says hi
>HD-DVD player says hi
>cause you probably put it in a tight closeted space
>53% fail rate of Xbox 360s

cry sony pony if you want, but i play on PC, so don't even try haha

To everyone looking for one

Buy em now, some studio in U.K. Is liquidating them

>and still 0 games
lol no thanks OP

Blatant lie. It does not feel cheap at all. In fact it's extremely well built, has 20 hours of play batteries and every button is perfect except triggers. Thumbstick are best ever on Sony platform, have larger area of movement (means more precision) than X360 and PS4 controllers..

actually, he was in a bridgestone tires commercial that had a wii promotion for some raisin
youtube.com/watch?v=M9WRGjODZDQ

I have 4 PS3 controllers and 2 of them are Sixaxis ones I got at launch. They all still work perfectly. Even if they didn't you can get PS3 controllers cheap as fuck now. Meanwhile I can estimate that I've easily spent over £100 on batteries for the 360.
