It's better for FPS games than a normal xbox or playstation controller. It's not as good for PC, but if you want to play FPS games on your couch for some fucking reason, it's good for that. It's good for playing mouse heavy games on the couch too, but again, why the fuck would you do that to yourself?

Pretty much depends on control schemes per game.

Some schemes do some clever things with combining multiple buttons into one analog trigger.

For instance Galak-Z, a space flight shooty thing, normally has Thrust on trigger and Boost on bumper. Steam controller combines both onto trigger, making you Boost when pressing it all the way down.

Other than that, I don't like the touchpads and usually just use an Xbox controller.

>playing galak-z with a steam controller

>playing galak-shit at all

>next time on galak-ballZ user plays with a fucking steam controoller

it's the first unique attempt at a controller in a while. it's flawed, but makes attempts at something grand. the controller market has stagnated, so innovation deserves some credit

hey fuckface this video is actually really good and informative

it has a high learning curve but lets you do some pretty great things from the couch/bed if you wanna stay comfy while on the pc

>excellent as a remote for a HTPC
>good for RTS and 3rd person games
>super programmable with more buttons than an average controller
>works as an xinput controller on all supported games nativly
>Cheap as dirt
>Excellent battery life

Its not good for every use case but for most anything that isnt an FPS its an excellent controller once you get used to the touchpads(which took me no time)

Oh i forgot
>gyro controls

>virtual D-pad
explain

Touchpads > analogue sticks

Gyro is nice

Extra grip buttons, plus analogue triggers with click stages

Rebinding system is miraculous (though nowadays it works for DS4 and X360 as well)

It's compatible with virtually any game you could play on the PC, even with 0 controller support. Fully customizable with two extra buttons, gyro, and switch modes. Allows for simple navigation on the desktop with no need for kb+m. I could probably name a few more major reasons if I thought about it. Any more specific questions?

does it feel like shitty cheap plastic too or just look like it

It's basically weightless, it does feel kind of flimsy in that respect

It just looks it. It not nintendium by any means but it could easily take a moderate beating. Supposedly people have been breaking triggers easily, but I've never had a problem.

I hate having to use this through Steam. Is there a way to make the computer think it;s just an xbox controller every time I connect it?

that sucks

I think if you just set the desktop bind to gamepad you should be able use it like that.

The same reason people like using Gahnoo Loonix. It is extremely customizable. That said, I like GNU+Linux but absolutely hate the controller. I have held mine for less than 5 minutes; long enough for it to play some shitty Portal sound effect and then it went back into the box.
>shows Zelda BOTW
rofl

Makes gyro feel better though. Most people don't mind that their mouse feels flimsy and weightless.

it's literally obsolete now that you can configure the dualshock 4 or any gamepad the same way

only plus is that the battery seems to last a long time

>"I was suspect too at first but I actually like it very much!"
