Why was the PS2 so perfect?
Why was the PS2 so perfect?
You weren't old and jaded when it came out
>multitap
>none of those games are multiplayer
Also no one ever bought a fucking multitap
Because the passage of time has allowed you to overlook the shitty parts and romanticize the good parts.
>GTA SA
>not multiplayer
hello underage b&
I had a multitap, though I dont think I ever used it
only game I had that I *think* it could work with was ratchet and clank 3 multi
What was bad about the PS2? Only bad thing I remember is the discs were easy to scratch.
>No MGS2
>no SH2
shit pack
There was no reason to be jaded at the times. High quality games were being made all the time for all systems, and tech was being pushed forward.
>PS2
>No God of War
What are you doing?
PS1 was a better console, way more innovative and had better games.
just...stop
It wasn’t you underage
I really miss these 3D save files, it's like a little collection of figurines. Even creating a save file on PS2 was the coolest shit.
t.born during the 6th gen

kill yourself
You're overlooking the garbage that came out in between the good games.
t. 31 year old trying way too hard to convince himself he wasn't born during a shit generation
>What was bad about the PS2?
Rampant disc-read errors, overheating, and more shovelware than even the Wii.
All popular consoles get shovelware, but it's not fair to criticize the Wii for shovelware and ignore the fact that the PS2 had far more.
>No Budokai 3
Nah the 5th gen was great, arcades were still alive and the market wasn't flooded by western shit like it was in the 6th,4th will remain the best overall.
That fucking Shrek 2 game was awesome
choke on a dick, weeb
>31
That's oddly specific.
It was not.
test
>choke on a dick, weeb
I would also like to know what was bad with the PS? It was a fucking great console with an awesome library of games.
There's always garbage on all systems. Your own fault if you waste your money or time on it.
Shrek 2 was multiplayer.
>no tenkaichi 3
>PS2
>those long load times
>worst graphics of the gen by far
>low quality discs
>(arguably) uncomfortable controllers
>literally the king of shovelware that even the Wii couldn't dethrone
>worshiped by BRs and other 3rd world countries because they could still buy new soccer games for it as recently as 3-4 years ago
The PS2 itself wasn't great, its just that it was the cheapest console to develop for and it had a high install base because DVD players were so fucking expensive at the time
The PS2 itself did nothing that made it great, it just happened to get a lot of interesting 3rd party exclusives, but they were only exclusive because the devs couldn't afford to release their game on anything else or didn't want to risk going multiplat and took the safe, cheap, bet.
A console like the PS2 can't really happen again since making games multiplat is stupid easy now that every console uses the same architecture, so if a console wants exclusives it has to rely on first party and second party releases, which has never been Sony's strong suit.
Unless devs suddenly decide to just not release their games on other systems for no reason, the PS4 will never be much more than a multiplat box + uncharted and Yakuza (until that gets ported to PC like everything else)
Anyway, my point is that the PS2 itself kinda sucks, its just that the industry was still pretty great at the time and lots of cool games were being made. Now we have less and less cool games being made overall every year and when they are made they're almost always multiplat.
This is why the PS3 and now the PS4 are kinda pointless if you have a PC or any other current gen console.
>Phoenix Games
The kings of shovelware.
youtube.com
For every half decent exclusive there were 30 shovleware titles.
Reminds me alot like how the Wii was at the height of its popularity.
Hello underage
>including Darkwatch, Fatal Frame, God Hand, Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Extreme G Racing in a list of "bad" games
>Trapt
>Siren
>Okage
>Budokai Tenkaichi 3
>Disaster Report
>Fatal Frame
>Haunting Ground
>God Hand
There are a lot of good games there you mongoloid, even games like Mister Mosquito don't deserve that low score.
>2 player
>multitap
B-but they have a yellow score so they must be bad, that's how it works right?
t. actual neo-Sup Forums

my motherfuckin man
The PS2 is the most recent console I've played
>worst graphics of the gen by far
Shrek 2 is the only good game there.
it looks better in writing than it is in execution, fuckwit
>FFX but no Legacy of Kain
>Shrek but no MGS
Eugh.
I'm surprised that people have not mentioned the PS2's backwards compatibility yet.
Being able to keep your potentially extensive PS1 library and play them as always on a brand new system was an amazing selling point. And for some newcomers with no PS1 experience, PS2 provided the choice of testing out the hundreds of 90s classics, for cheap at that point as well.
>it had a high install base because DVD players were so fucking expensive at the time
Wake me up when you find Gamecube games that look better in motion than Burnout 3, Champions of Norrath and Black.
so it's bad, just it has all the best games and it was the easiest console to make games for and it had a dvd player when a stand alone dvd player would cost as much as a ps3. and it had lots of exclusives
but it's not good because..you personally don't like the controllers and it had too many games
and some bullshit about the graphics which isn't true
Resident Evil 4
>the whole world is the USA
You certainly couldn't get a DVD player for $40 in Canada in 2002
When people bring up the DVD player aspect they aren't saying its the reason why the console continued to sell, the entire reason why its important is because it gave the PS2 a big boost to its initial install base early in the gen, which made it more attractive for 3rd party devs
ps2*
Literally only have heard of burnout, never even seen a screenshot of it though.
RE4 is heavily letterboxed (without being true widescreen)
REmake, Mario Sunshine
>but it's not good because..you personally don't like the controllers and it had too many games
>and some bullshit about the graphics which isn't true
No, its not a good console because they constantly broke, the graphics were objectively the worst of the gen and yeah, a lot of people don't like the dualshock.
But more importantly the PS2 was cheaply made and broke a lot.
Literally look at any multiplat and compare it to the Xbox or Gamecube, hell, just look up footage of Resident Evil 4 in action, the PS2 port looks like garbage, and not just in a "hahaha, your port of the game runs 5 frames slower and at a slightly lower resolution than mine!" sort of way like we have today.
More in a "everything is flat and blurry, the shading is all gone and there is literally no anti aliasing" kind of way
I really don't see why you're taking it so personally. Whats wrong with saying "A lot of the games on the PS2 are fun but the PS2 itself is trash"
Literally every good game on the PS2 could have been released on any other console that gen and the game would have just been better.
The PS2 offered nothing aside from being really really cheap.
REmake uses 2D backgrounds like a PS1 game and Mario Sunshine is 30 FPS and not even that good looking anyway (water is by far the best looking part of the game).
Luigi's Mansion was pretty nice
keep telling yourself that
>Literally look at any multiplat and compare it to the Xbox or Gamecube
hmm...looks like the gamecube version is the gimp console not PS2
Gamecube unironically had a better library.
>Melee
>Kirby Air Ride
>TTYD
>Luigi's Mansion
>Eternal Darkness
>Double Dash
And back then Nintendo actually had third party support. PS2 had an overhyped pizza delivery/ghetto simulator and War of the Monsters.
Because it was, back when people made games for the most part.
but I thought....PS2 was gimp console....but actually....gamecube is gimp console
autism
but couldn't gamecube texture better than PS2...so they say.....but why gamecube textures so blurry?
was gamecube really more powerful than PS2 ...? or have nintendo fans been running 15 years+ misinformation campaign ?
Having gone back and played a lot of older PS2 games, I still enjoy them a lot. KH and Jak are still really solid games.
>Gamecube
>third party support
REmake uses 2d backgrounds Sunshines looked like shit in comparison with R&C or even Jak
why is dirt road lower resolution texture on gamecube?
but.....I thought....PS2 was gimp console....but actually gamecube is.....gimp console
Which was made specifically for the GameCube along with killer7. People never mention anything else when they list multiplats that were better on GameCube than PS2.
I love how you have these saved so you can fanboy over your special little brick and claim btfo
Sorry, you didn't really specify the rules. I didn't realise beautiful 2D backgrounds disqualified a game from looking good in motion. Or a standard console framerate.
>lazy devs don't put effort into the Gamecube port of a PS2 game
>this is the fault of the Cube
Damn, I better sell my PC and buy an Xbone, even if Arkham Knight is a shitty game it looks a lot better on Xbone than my PC.
>ERP, lead programmer of World Driver Championship, the game with the highest polygon count from 5th generation of consoles: "[Gamecube] was by far the worst performing of the 3 platforms. You should see the performance penalty when god forbid the GPU has to clip a polygon, it was so bad I actually wrote code to traverse triangle lists and clip tris with the CPU."

should i trust opinion of nintendo neckbeards on Sup Forums....or should i trust opinion of expert programmer?
What am I supposed to be seeing in the first picture?
>GCfags will keep using this as an example even tough the port was a last minute hackjob by Capcom because RE4 sold like shit on gamecube
holy shit you just keep biting and biting
You know Resident Evil 4 was never going to get a PS2 port right? Mikami the lead designer said that if it got ported to PS2 he would cut his head off.
There's a good reason that port is shit.
Is that a meme? Old Ratchet and Clank games look like ratboy genius
>opinion of expert programmer
>lead programmer of western shovelware n.3874
All popular consoles get shovelware, but it's not fair to criticize the Wii for shovelware and ignore the fact that the PS2 had far more.
Okay I agree with you but every time I try to mention that the Wii had plenty of good games in spite of the massive shovelware, I get jumped on not by Sonyfags, but by Nintendofags. Every time I have to argue why the Wii was actually pretty good, it's with braindead Nintendofags who ignore the existence of any game that isn't plastered with Mario, Link and Samus. I've rarely, if ever, seen a genuine fan of the PS2 attacking the Wii for shovelware.
I don't have exact numbers but I would also say that the PS2 has a better ratio of good games to shovelware than the Wii did, hard to make a 1:1 comparison between the two, I prefer comparing the PS2 and DS
>Tony Hawk American Wasteland
>NFS Most Wanted
>Timesplitters Future Perfect
>Resident Evil 4
>Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2
>WWE Day of Reckoning 2
That's all you need right there.
>PS2 fags can't admit that the PS2 was the Wii of its gen because they spent the first 10 years of their life shitposting on the internet about how shitty the Wii is because of its bad graphics and shovelware games and it was only selling because it was so cheap, so they'd look stupid if they admitted that the PS2 had shitty graphics and mostly shovelware and was only selling because it was so cheap
>because RE4 sold like shit on gamecube
Gonna need a source for that pal.
>neo-Sup Forums the post
Some faggot actually made that image. Thry cherry picked not only the worst games, but also failed to notice they picked games that people who actual like to play video games praise (god hand, fatal frame) the absolutle salt of that image. You csn do this for any console, at any gen and just slap “nuuh neo-v”
You know the guy who wrote that managed to get this kind of graphics running on N64? He's almost Carmack level.
A wall of greentext
I think the picture was meant to be bait.
and yet they looked much better than Sunshine, had more detailed enviroments and ran at 60 fps
>overrated console FPS
>all those games that were also on PS2
The XBox has a more respectable library but its still not even worth comparing.
>Every time I have to argue why the Wii was actually pretty good, it's with braindead Nintendofags who ignore the existence of any game that isn't plastered with Mario, Link and Samus.
I absolutely agree, after hacking my Wii and really digging into its hidden gems, I'd honestly say it has the most value from its gen. At the start of the gen I was certain that it was 360 > PS3 > Wii as far as quality games, but by the end my opinion pretty much reversed and I couldn't deny that the Wii had the widest range of exclusives and the other two ended up being multiplats for all but the start and end of the gen. 360 had a good year or two of games at the start and just gave the fuck up, and PS3 didn't even start trying until about two years before they replaced it. Meanwhile the Wii was getting a steady stream of great first and third party titles for the entire 6 years it was around
Britfag here. My dad had a DVD player since 2000 and they were cheaper than a PS2 by the time i got one. I literally didn’t give a fuck about DVDs at age 11 i just wanted to play Tekken Tag and wrath of Cortex so bad. Still got it.
Most of those games are factually good so its probably a bait picture
>sold 1,6 million on gamecube while the shit PS2 port sold over 2 million in a year
nice prerelease screenie
>kid that unironically thinks the PS2 wasn't the weakest console of its gen even though it objectively was, is also a smelly phone poster that can't focus long enough to get through one run-on sentence
>Beta screenshot
Nice try though.
How can other 6th gen consoles even compete?

>Japan only
Im a sonybro user, but i eon’t hear you pretend that REmake is not one of THE most lush lookong video games of all time. I put my hand in my fucking pocket and got a gamecube when they became £80 just to experince REmake, RE0 and the upcoming wonder that was RE4
I don't think you know the meaning of the word 'objectively'. Seems to me that the people saying PS2 is more powerful have hard data and true multiplatform games on their side, while the Gamecube team just have boldly asserted 'feels' and Gamecube exclusives-ported-to-PS2 counter examples.
