Tfw Nintendo is hiring people to make games who don't even like or play them

>"ensure they're just not gamers"
Implies he wants people with ideas, people who will bring something new rather than taking what exist and changing it slightly to their taste.
No surprise. When you see Miyamoto, you think mainline Mario and Zelda, but this is really explaining Wii Sports and Arms.
The people with experience in games are making the good games. I can't imagine how hiring anyone without experience in a field is ever a good idea. Being a blank slate is not a benefit when you are the fucking creator, it just means you have nothing to work with. If you keep them long enough, guess what happens? They become gamers anyways. Best case scenario, they get lots of experience with games, but Nintendo pays for it to happen. Worst case scenario, they continue knowing nothing and make garbage for you instead.
Not cryzenx or pannen keok
This is why no so not support neo nintendo
Retards... What he means is that he prefers people who have wider knowledge than just single area in gaming. The more you know the more you can think outside the fucking box. But you are all underage millennial beanie wearing faggots who stare at your iphones all day long so what do you know about how actual work happens.
Shigeru is a faggot and doesn't play games himself so that's to be expected. Also I think they look down on adults who play video games in japan anyway.
>Some of the company's current stars had no experience playing video games when they were hired.
>Illiterate senior citizen insults others on the internet and tries to grasp some sense of superiority just by virtue of his age
Wanna know how I know you're ashamed of browsing this site at your age?
Hiroshi Yamauchi never played video games, and he made Nintendo what it is today.
Dude loved playing Go, though.
Take a look at the majority of indie devs, they're either pretentious numales, trannies, jaded fucks or all at once.
Would you really want a Phil Fish, Notch or Tobi Fox to design your video games?
He wasn't a game designer. The OP quote is talking about designers.
No. That's why I'd prefer someone who plays games to make them.
>Would you really want three people who have all made good video games to design your video games?
Uh...yeah?
nintendo would cream their pants at the prospect of owning minecraft
so yeah, im pretty sure they would definitely want notch
>The OP quote is talking about designers.
Read the last sentence of the quote again, you illiterate retard.
NES era Nintendo would only publish a game if Yamaguchi said it looked fun. Otherwise the game was deleted.
His Quality Control was pretty important IMHO
The biggest innovation is found in indie games though. When was Nintendo innovative the last time? Oh, it's that time when they didn't use a tutorial for once.
So Miyamoto want to find another Miyamoto. You know Miyamoto doesn't really play games? He just happen to find what he think is fun and just give advice to the designers on what he want and they do it. Seem they are just looking for more people that have different tastes to make different games. Splatoon was made because of developers liking weird style of clothing and rap music. Just hiring gamers just lead to the same games being made over and over.
When Terry Pratchett says the key to writing original fantasy is to read anything but fantasy, everyone's like "oh yeah that makes sense"
But gamers aren't mature enough to handle that shit, I guess
Good. I don't want any more pubg, dark souls, or lootbox clones.
Yamauchi did literally the same thing, and it lead to him finding easily the best devs the Industry could offer in the 80s and 90s.
It's a mere fact that people with varied skillsets are more creative than some geek so who does nothing but play games.
I only know tobi fox as a musician (he's the undertale dude right?) but Phil and notch both made very enjoyable and massively popular games, so yeah.
Good. People who like video games are not the people you want to have in your company.
Very few people on Sup Forums are capable of introspection at all, so this should come as no surprise.
Indie devs are a dime a dozen and usually one-trick ponies. Also claiming that Notch made more than the framework for Minecraft is a blatant overstatement.
Pretty dumb mindset. I guess that's why all nintendo games are so extremely easy and dumbed down. There is no one there who could actually create depth and finer mechanics.
I think maybe it's just that gamers are a bunch of spergs who dislike change and just want more of the same, but somehow better. And the more serious they are about gaming, the worse it tends to get.
Minecraft barely evolved past the framework though, infarct it just got worse, so implying that Notch didn't do most of the work is retarded.
That's a flawed analogy. The correct way to frame it would be asking a fantasy writer to never read books.
But this is more like saying the key to writing is never having picked up a book in your life.
You still need to know something about the medium or you're just going to write drivel.
So just get both kind of people to design your games? One for innovation and one for fine tuning gameplay.
The point is fantasy is highly conventional, and so are video games. People who get into it with the mindset that they want to "write fantasy" or "make video games" too often end up merely copying their predecessors.
Arms is genuinely great
But Miyamoto isn't the one who said they hire people with no game experience, it is the article's writer who pointed out that Miyamoto, Koizumi etc. were not gamers back when they started. Which is natural, these are people that started working in the 80s and 70s, where gaming was much smaller.
They probably DO hire NOTHING but people that have played games before nowadays since it's such a gigantic phenomenom that everyone has played one.
ARMS was developed by Koizumi, who is probably one of the most hardcore gamers working in the company. Dude spent roughly thousand hours on Street Fighter 2 back in the day and it's what made him want to become a game dev in first place.
Thinking that Notch actually did the most work on Minecraft is not just your opinion, it's bloody hell aswell. So give it a rest, Markus.
*bloody hella retarded
So did I, doesn't make me a game dev
Fuck off, incompetent Minecraft dev team. You are paid to literally do nothing.
>hardcore
You are misusing the term.
You can only be hardcore if you play artvidya with deeo storylines and other common qualities of modern AAA games.
Shallow pick-up and play arcade stuff isn't hardcore
Video games are not nearly as conventional as fantasy novels. The more the budget grows, the more that is true.
If a designer were to only play Ubisoft games, then it'd be like a writer who reads fantasy. There's insane variety in the games industry, but admittedly not in AAA schlock.
Maybe because you never put in the effort to become one genius, ever think if that?
Arms wasn't a one-man project. There's no real way of knowing how many people on that team were clueless.
*The more the budget grows, the more conventional games become.
I don't think he means hiring overweight feminists who want 100% cut scene games.
>Biggest innovation
Lol
>we want game designers that sit home and play games and get every achievmenet
luil
"I always" implies he's been doing it for a long time
They hired that weird feminist that got fired for being "anti-gamergate", but that was NoA, not actual designers or developers.
wot
>Shiggy's last game he made fucking sucks
>New guys make GOTY 2017
He isn't wrong.
Going into video games was his idea to begin with.
Before that Nintendo ran other businesses, but they all failed.
I think you need to leave.
It was big news in 2016 for people who have nothing important to do witht heir lives.
You mean the prostitute?
nu Sup Forums needs to be fucking purged, holy shit.
How many more times are shitheads going to make this thread?
Shit dude you were so off with your description of the events that I suspected you were talking about her but couldn't even be sure.
She was fired because she was a literal whore, not because she was anti-gg. Sop being delusional you retard.
Nah, she was a cunt so people went after something to get her fired for(the whole pro-pedophilia tweets), I'm not against it, but that's what happened.
No, she was a literal actual prostitute user.Literally. You could buy her for a weekend.
Nintendo found out because they took a closer look at her after all the harassment kicked off.
Still, the official reason she got fired was because she had a sex-related second job. No one in NoA gets fired for being anti-gg, and Treehouse is a SJW circlejerk that loves to censor "problematic" games. Deal with it.
isnt this a good thing?
i dont want old people recreating their childhood memories i want new exciting experiences
>Still
There's no debate. She was a literal whore and got fired for that.
>Some of the company's current stars had no experience playing video games when they were hired.
reminder that all the classics from the 80's you love were designed by engineers and toymakers rather than "gamurzz"
notch has never really been passionate about other video games as far as im aware
he just seems to like tech
>not just
it's like you don't know how to read
i imagine that would be better
if i read another book with tolkein races im going to end my life
Miyamoto is doing what Lucas did not do, allow people with new bright ideas to give input into his IP's, it seems someone slapped his face hard after fucking with Paper Mario, and I am glad.
Now Lucas lost Star Wars and any creative power he had, because he could not allow other people to put some input into his work, why you think Oddysea is such a master piece? you really think the capture ability and all of its interesting possessions could had come out of Miyamoto head alone? don't be such a child.
The Star Wars situation is so sad, because Star Wars has no soul without its creator, if he had only allow others to help and criticize his work more sigh.
>it seems someone slapped his face hard after fucking with Paper Mario
It was tanabe that fucked paper mario, at least as far as gameplay goes, not miyamoto
It was probably the negative reception of both the Wii U, to which he was the lead architect, and Star Fox Zero's forced motion controls
Having diversity votes dictate the game is massively different from having the staff have people who are blank slates who can have varied ideas.
You just get stuff like Tales of Zestrina or Final Fantasy XIII if a core creator with a big enough placement is left to his own devices while being lazy and biased.
Completely agree on this user, I doubt even Miyamoto could had escaped the criticism of Star Fox Zero
This, is ok to give a creator to have creative control 100%, but they also need to receive a shit ton of criticism about what they are developing or they tunnel vision their creation, XIII is a great example.
>Paper Mario
There is still hope for him user.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT'S NOT FAIR
So is that why BoTW is a walking simulator instead of an actual Zelda game?
it is an actual zelda game. not an OoT clone, kiddo
>Le epic "BOTW it's the real Zelda 1 sequel" delusion
>Zelda 1 has an handcrafted openworld and eight actual dungeons
>BOTW is asset-copypasta empty openworld garbage with shitty fake "dungeons"
>le buzzwords post
SEETHING
>just because Zelda 1 is a bit barebones excuses BOTW for being barebones
>It's purposely barebones
explain how it's barebones without using buzzwords.
But there was no buzzword whatsoever...? Are your argumentations that weak, user? Sad.
why the fuck is this a bad thing again
"gamers" are the kinda soyboy numale retards with beards posing with their consoles, they have nothing to give
so you're just a retard that calls whatever you don't like a "buzzword", right?
>a company that does more than just develop video games wants to hire people who have interests other than just video games
Well, goddamn. Imagine my shock. Who would have thought, that in the year of 2018, employers look for employees who are not one-dimensional.
>still using buzzwords
you gettin' worked kiddo
you're merely pretending , right user?
i hope you're pretending to be retarded indeed
>get random normies who never touched a video game before
>they don't even want to be there
>get angry at any complexity beyond simple puzzles because they're frustrated and bored
>game designer has to make the game more simple and casualized to appeal to them, rather than the fans that built the company and franchises since day 1
>get seasoned gamers to be your test group
>this is their dream and are excited to be there
>they make informed decisions based on previous experience playing the series and integrate aspects/mechanics of other games they enjoy
pick one
no u
Guy's not wrong though. AAA companies don't innovate much because they play it safe to make profits. Indie devs tend not to have a publisher hounding them into doing things their way.
The thread should have ended here with this tripfag. What the fuck is wrong with you people when tripfags are less faggoty than anonymous?
>a company that does more than just develop video games
What else does Nintendo do? They make videogame hardware and software.
You don't need to play videogames to know how to make them.
Still better than "college educated" american developers.
its better than diversity hires like in the west where every game company is attempting to hire women with hair colors that complete the rainbow
Actually this explains features like the Super Guide in the latest Mario & DKC games
No?
Nintendo makes cardgames, tabletop games, figurines, etc. They also brought and are expanding and staffing a new animation studio.
VIdya is their biggest revenue maker.
>They also brought and are expanding and staffing a new animation studio.
source?
Of course it's better. He literally says he wants people that are interested in video games and enjoy other things which can give them different perspectives and takes on shit. This can mean someone who likes video games and also is passionate about fishing, which then results in an expanded fishing mini game in the next Zelda game. Shit like that.
>taking your trip off to defend yourself
