Just got the REmake and about to start my first playthrough. Anything I should know?
Also PCgamingwiki listed "door skip plugin, normalized music mod and REHDhook" as essential improvements, should I get them?

>fuck up the pacing of the game plugin
>essential
How does it fuck up the pacing when all it does is that you don't have to watch a 10 second long door animation every 30 seconds?
Don't get anything at all. The game's fucking great as is.
Don't use the new controls, and consider using 4:3 aspect ratio if you can. The latter's less important though.
Start with Jill first, and play on the initially highest difficulty (mountain climbing). That is the "normal" mode; the two lower are "Easy", and the HD-only "Very Easy".
Only thing you really need to know is that you can and NEED to EXAMINE some items in the inventory's 3D viewer, from different angles, to find some stuff.
play Jill first on easy, it's better for the first playthrough and the game has a lot replay value
don't kill all the zombies they get turned into crimson heads after some time aka more agressive and dangerous B.O.W.s, if you do kill some you have fuel canteen so burn them before they come back
don't worry about saving there's 40 ink ribbons in the game so feel free to save anytime you feel like it
and save Richard with antivenom, you get better shotgun if he dies during first Yawn fight if you're playing as Jill or in shark tank if you're playing as Chris
for the rest just enjoy it and make sure to get that performance patch from PCGW if it doesn't run smooth, door skip is eesential only if you want to speedrun the game
It removes the feeling of expectation and caution, feels like speedrunning on crack. If its your first playthrough play without the mod.
And play original RE1 first, REmake was created for people who expereinced the original. Game intentionally throws curve balls to you because you expect the things to play out in a certain way like they did in original re1.
>10 second
exaggeration. And those "animations" literally add to the mood and style of the game.
>giving out this detailed information and spoiling half of the fun
stop
Yes that's part of the pacing, it's called building tension.
>Also PCgamingwiki listed "door skip plugin, normalized music mod and REHDhook" as essential improvements, should I get them?
Fucking kek user, do not install anything.
As others have said, play as Jill first since you get increased inventory space and various other improvements, use the original control scheme (if you do not want to fuck up the game for yourself) and play on hard.
The game may seem challenging but there are people who can very easily finish it under two hours so keep in mind that you are just a scrub and have to learn.
REmake is one of the greatest games ever made, the greatest Resident Evil game, and the pinnacle of the survival-horror genre, alongside with Silent Hill 1-2. Just play it, crank up difficulty, and enjoy.
it can realy turn people down if they don't know some basic stuff
I dropped it on the first boss first time and came after I watched first half of the speedrun, currently on my 6th playthrough
Is it your first time playing RE1?
>Anything I should know?
Yes, choose the hardest difficulty available as that is Normal mode. Hard mode does not get unlocked until you finish the game. Don't play on Easy like all the retards who fail to do basic research on this game.
If this is your first time playing a RE game don't fall for the "avoid le enemies" speedrun autistic meme. Kill things that are in your way,
Those mods sound like fucking cancer based solely on the fact that the first one is considered "essential". That would fucking destroy the pacing and tension of the game. Fucking ADHD mustards...
But the other user is right that figuring out the basic stuff is part of the experience. Of course, aside from the fact that REmake was not made with new players in mind. There is a fucking reason why the GC game does not give you alternative controls.
DON0T READ THIS FUCKING POST
HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHAT A MASSIVE FAGGOT
Fucking kill yourself
Got it. So I'll start with Jill and the hardest mode available.
Are you guys sure the original tank controls is the way to go? I'll be probably using a controller for this.
>Don't play on Easy like all the retards who fail to do basic research on this game.
>you have to research a game to be able to play it
fuck off I bet you feel insulted if people play Myst with guide
also
>reddit spacing
go for tank controls or you're going to have problems with camera angles, also learn how to stairskate it isn't usefull but looks cool
Original tank controls for sure. Using the modern scheme makes the game way too easy and nulls the strategy of bait and avoidance.
Jill on Hard will be fine. Don't worry because the best features of the game haven't been spoiled... YET
Do yourself a favor and just start your run.
Yes, using the alternatives is both clunky (ironically) since it will fuck up your sense of movement as the camera angles change, on top of it making the game pathetically easy since it allows you to dance around zombies. The game was not made for them whatsoever.
REmake is a game with the same design sensibilities as RE1, RE2, RE3, the first two Dino Crisis games, and many more, except refined to perfection. Getting used to tank controls will allow you to play and enjoy all of these.
If you do not like tank controls initially, stick with them and you will get better after 15 minutes of playing. Quick turn (run+backwards) and baiting for zombie grabs to run past zambambos are essential but you will figure them out yourself.
The only mod you need is the one that removes those ugly goggles from Jill's Army outfit.
Also you can play the original RE1 after this and still be in for surprises. REmake is pretty definitive but the two don't totally overlap. The setup is different in both.
No, ignore all the fucking retards that tell you what character you should play as and what control scheme to use. I Platinum'd this game with ease without ever touching the original controls and it was my first RE game. Don't listen to that ridiculously autistic suggestion to play in 4:3 either.
And obviously you should play with what ever character you think is your favorite for the first time, which let's be honest, is gonna be Jill. I know exactly why these people are recommending you to start as her and rest assured that it's because they are dumb parrots.
much better
Kill yourself you fucking loser. I can't stand faggots like you who can't answer a simple fucking question spoiler free without trying to impress random people on the internet with your in depth knowledge of remembering shit you have done before.
if you this is your first survival horror pick bike difficulty, you'll just get frustrated if you waste all the ammo and healing wares on the first couple zombies
>I Platinum'd this game with ease without ever touching the original controls and it was my first RE game.
No fucking shit it was with ease when you essentially chose the very easy babby mode that was not in the original game when you picked alternative controls.
Way to miss the whole point of that outfit
>helping people enjoy game you like is offense now
yeah we hardcore gaymerz, if you can't pwn everyone kys
Nah, not my first survival horror, just the first time playing an older RE. I like a challenge so I'm gonna go ahead and start on the hardest diff.
Got it, I'm just gonna fuck off and play it before I get even more confused by conflicting answers. Thanks anons.
>I Platinum'd this game with ease without ever touching the original controls
>I Platinum'd this game with ease
>without ever touching the original controls
Geez, user, I wonder why.
The point of the outfit is the tank top
Army Jill is (in fact) the cutest Jill
Go fuck yourself you retarded parrot. I've 100% all the fixed camera RE games since and have no problem with tank controls what so ever, in fact the tank controls on REmake make it piss easy to exploit the AI, hence why literally ever fucking speedrun autist uses them instead of the alternative ones. You don't know shit.
The original controls are bad.
Dodging the Easy mode pitfall was the most important thing, too bad about that autist spoiling the game for you.
Have fun
you do know very easy doesn't contribute anything to 100% unless you count alt costumes
>telling about 1/50 of the game is spoiling
yeah fuck off nigger make sure to buy rope and neck yourself
I swear to God.
MUH CLASSICS Resident Evil fags are slowly becoming my most hated group in this fucking website. Autistic zealots the lot of you
You fail to see the difference between parroting and thinking for yourself based on the intentions of the original developer.
>I've 100% all the fixed camera RE games since and have no problem with tank controls what so ever
Blah blah, some retarded shit I have no way of proving, please believe me though.
>in fact the tank controls on REmake make it piss easy to exploit the AI, hence why literally ever fucking speedrun autist uses them instead of the alternative ones. You don't know shit.
You do not need to exploit the AI for grabs or whatever else when you can literally fucking dance around zombies and probably beat the game knife-only without ever getting into danger, and that is why speedrunners do not use these. That is like speedrunning Jedi Outcast on Padawan difficulty.
I meant that the alternative control scheme makes the game too easy, you tard. Has nothing to do with the difficulty level you pick at the beginning.
The point was to make a Terminator 2 reference.
But yes, that tank top was nice
>yo do not use the alternative control scheme because it:
>makes the game too easy
>fucks up the controls due to the fixed camera angles
>ruins the balance given how much ammunition and healing items you are given
>goes against developer intentions, was not in the original GC release, and was only added in by modern CAPCOM devs as a mod clutch for very, very bad casual players
cue user sperging out about classic RE games in spite of not being able to refute ANY of the above
EVERY THREAD
I don't know why people think alternate controls are easier, unless you're autist who remembered all the angles in the game
>being this bad at fucking video games he thinks REmake or any RE before 4 poses any sort f challenge whatsoever
>showing that he literally never payed with alternative controls by thinking it gives the player more maneuverability
>thinking fucking tank controls are any hurdle to leap over because he was born after they fell out of use
So much of the fucking autism surrounding these games can be attributed to the speedrunning faggots it's not even funny. I really despise that whole "movement", pure cancer.
Godspeed, user.
holy shit just play the fucking game
>"makes the game too easy"
>I'll keep parroting this meme with literally no evidence to support it while the mount of evidence to the contrary keeps piling up.
Literally all you faggots had to do was tell OP to play however he feels like it since it's just a fucking control scheme, but you just cannot pass up the opportunity to shove your nostalgia down everyone's throats. Pathetic.
I don't know what the other two even do, but there's no reason to include door skip your first time playing. The doors were meant as load times but they add a nice sense of apprehension. What they really should've done is added walls around the doors for the HD.
As someone else said, play as Jill, but play on the hardest difficulty available. The increased inventory is a good idea for the first playthrough because you'll have so many fucking key items you'll be guessing which you need to take with you.
>being this bad at fucking video games he thinks REmake or any RE before 4 poses any sort f challenge whatsoever
Regardless of how hard a person will find REmake subjectively, the point was that alternative controls make the game unintentionally easier than it has to be. What kind of a sperg do you have to be to bring overall skill with video games to this discussion is beyond me.
>showing that he literally never payed with alternative controls by thinking it gives the player more maneuverability
It literally does. What is next, you will ask me to provide evidence that water is wet? Fucking hell user.
>thinking fucking tank controls are any hurdle to leap over because he was born after they fell out of use
They absolutely aren't, which is why it is so surprising to see you and many other people losing your shit over them.
>still replying
Holy shit user, sniff that NaCl up.
Not him but youre a little cunt.
>playing myst with a guide
Thats like having someone put together a puzzle for you then you going "look what i did!". Jesus, youre a fucking faggot.
no user, you play as Jill because Chris is a bitch
You can dodge the enemies with fucking ease as a complete beginner with the new control scheme in ways you were never meant to be able. The enemies aren't designed to handle a player that can move so fluidly. It's game-breaking. To include fixed controls without ruining the difficulty of ammo and health preservation would require fixing all of the enemies, too, which they didn't do.
It's not just a control scheme, it literally changes what is physically possible in the game. You can turn on a dime now. It's like adding additional height to jumps in a platformer.
Teetz n' cooch.
>run past zambambos are essential
This tells you everything about the argument for this nonsense. Running past things is literally the least fucking essential thing in these games, you can blast your way through all of them and have twice the fun you would be having otherwise. This is just the kind of speedruning shit that has infected the series and ends up ruining the games for naive and impressionable newbies.
This guys is a complete fucking retard in regards to everything not related to fast food or Tekken
>it can realy turn people down if they don't know some basic stuff
That kind of people aren't worth anyone's time. I saw a total rookie play and fell in love with REmake just a year ago.
>I dropped it on the first boss first time and came after I watched first half of the speedrun
God you are pathetic.
Original controls, or bust.
>continues to provide no evidence for why a control scheme put into the game by the developers is bad
You little fucking shit. What are you, 12? This is something I'd expect one of my friends to tell me on the playground in elementary school.
Aww man, 17gb download? This is gonna take forever with my shitty ass 1.1mb/s DL speed.
don't say that, you're gonna hurt some insecure user's feefees if you don't say it's essential to conserve ammo even though you have more than enough to purge half of NY
Show me this in action. I'll be waiting,
Fucking brainlets who can't into tank controls and then project it on to others as some sort of inherit game difficulty.
It's not a control scheme, it changes what the character is physically capable of. There is no way to replicate the new movements with the old controls. Also, they're not the devs of the game, they just ported it to PC.
>you can blast your way through all of them
RE1/REmake is basically the only RE where you literally can't, at least for the first few hours. Every Mikami game becomes a shooting gallery halfway through it, but the start of REmake is incredibly punishing when it comes to ammo.
Fucking kek.
I always have a good hearty chuckle when I see REmake threads on Sup Forums.
Especially when REmaster came out.
Sup Forums is so fucking shit at it, there were so many complaining threads around that time.
Even fucking DSP beat this game.
>us hardcore gaymerz
I don't understand. I'm arguing that the new controls are easier and that they shouldn't be used
What is actually being said:
>Conserving ammo and running past zombies is better because you cannot kill every single enemy in the game using the ammo you are given, which is objectively true and you can count the averages of what it takes to kill a zombie versus how much ammo you are given
What you, a person who cannot read, took away after seeing the word "essential"
>RUNNING PAST ZOMBIES IS FUCKING NECESSARY AND I LOOK DOWN ON EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT DO IT, BY THE WAY I ALSO LOVE SPEEDRUNNING, HIT ME UP ON AGDQ THIS YEAR NIGGS
Do not talk to me any further, you would be laughed at in real life and ostracized immediately, I see no reason to not do it here.
You seem mad.
He's literally spoiling the game. Those are the kind of tips you'd read in a walkthrough. If not wanting to be told how to beat a game before even trying it makes me elitist, I will be an elitist, casuals be damned.
nice adhd you faggot
>has others problem solve for him because he cant think
Nigger, if you honestly think Myst was a difficult game requiring a guide you should revisit those suicidal thoughts. I beat that game on my uncles Mac when i was like 11. Pen and paper.
Why the fuck would you tell someone to play on easy and then ruin one of the best additions in the game, you monkey.
Only if you're a brainlet that can't adapt to control schemes that are different.
It literally is.
>find item
>backtrack to item box
>find item
>backtrack to item box
>find puzzle
>backtrack to item box to get key/gem/whatever
GUD LEBEL DESING
Why did they add crimson head zombies in the remake? I always panic when I see a zombie corpse turning red.
>muh limited lighter fuel that takes away inventory space
Is there a way to get rid of zombies quickly when they grab you?
...
You didn’t help him you cretin you ruined a whole fucking addition to the game and you know it.
Find defensive weapons. They're "get out of jail free" cards to escape grabs
he "spoiled" first half an hour of the game, I don't know why that rustles your jimmies also why would anyone make what am i in for thread if they don't want the game spoiled
There are defensive weapons if you get grabbed from the front.
I always liked backtracking like that because it makes the level feel like an actual place instead of just a video game. You have to actually remember where things are and can't just blindly keep going forward.
I'm so sorry guys, I have started something sinister with making this thread and it's too late to stop it now.
I meant aside from those. Also, how do I safely fight off dogs? I always get instantly raped when one of those shits jump me.
Defensive items, as other anons have said. Might be a bit hard to get a Crimson to grab you without doing some damage first, though.
Protip: burn zombie corpses only in areas that you will be backtracking to often.
SPOILERS, OP
Partially to subvert expectationsof PS1 players, partially to add more depth to the game and make it scarier. There's the immediate reward of removing a zombie, but if you don't have kerosene you're punishing yourself later. So it adds more considerations to whether you kill a zombie or leave it alive
You gotta be pretty goddamn bad at games to have problems with vidya that literal 10 year olds were speedrunning through 15 years ago.
Then again, the whole idea of having to learn and master games seems to be dying nowadays.
The game takes about 6 hours to beat. So thats 1/12th of the entire game. What am i in for threads have never been about spoiling sections of a game unless its bullshit mechanics stuff.
To make zombys scary again, and the game more dynamic. And there's ways to deal with 'em without lighter.
Shotgun / don't fight 'em
I just run until i actually have to fight them. They are huge pieces of shit. Shoot em then knife em is generally my strat if i remember correctly.
There is always a sperg or five on Sup Forums, I see no reason to worry about this shit.
>removes the feeling of expectation and caution
Does it also remove the feeling of pride and accomplishment?
>You gotta be pretty goddamn bad at games to have problems with vidya that literal 10 year olds were speedrunning through 15 years ago.
I don't follow this logic, old games are in general far more punishing. Autists being able to successfully speedrun a game doesn't mean anything for a person new to the game, especially since literally any game has a speedrun now.
You can and i fucking did. Stop with this stupid fucking 20 year old meme. Ammo is everywhere, if you somehow run out of ammo as a blind newbie you just rely on healing until you inevitably run into more, because guess what? Healing is also fucking everywhere in that game.
The only RE game that even came close to requiring any sort of clever ammo management was RE0 on Hard mode, and i STILL killed every fucking enemy in that game with the exception of a couple of Eliminators in rooms i had no reasons to step into.
All you need is the basic common sense to not miss and recognize the appropriate weapon for each enemy.
the only major spoiler in that post are crimson heads and you want to tell me that's not mechanic
"Anything I should know?" is more like "Anything that can't be adequately understood via playing?" to which the answer is really just which character should be played and on which difficulty. Also,
>implying the discoveries at the beginning of the game are not the most interesting
Astonished people disagree with you. Those doors are obnoxious after the first few times, especially with how many doors some halls have
>you cannot kill every single enemy in the game using the ammo you are given
Now we have faggots who haven't played these games trying to argue about them.
I killed every single enemy on my way in my first playthrough, EVERY. SINGLE. ENEMY i found, i even let the dog in and do it ever since for fun.
Get the fuck out of here.
The whole point is that literal kids and girls had no problems playing these games through on their own back in the days, while modern xbox generation has been spoiled rotten by the handholding, non-punishing trash, thus experiencing severe cultureshocks to them whenever they try playing anything a bit older.
It's also cute how you call simple adaptation capabilities and learning how to play video games "autism", when it's practically the polar opposite of said mental disorder's symptoms.
>You can and i fucking did. Stop with this stupid fucking 20 year old meme. Ammo is everywhere
We are talking about the hard mode REmake, not easy mode.
>give so and so anti venom to get a better weapin later on.
>this is whatnis going to happen amd what you need to do to get a semi-hidden upgrade and save one of the few charachters you actually have a decision in isnt a spoiler.
I dont really give a shit but its a retarded fucking post that only a 12 year old babby would make then defend.
Just play it. Whats with fucking people who have to ask for tips and tricks before trying the game out themselves? You all are literal cancer
hard mode's not even available before you finish the game.
