Sure, if you've only played 5 rpgs in your life then you could definitely find something better. But if you're over eighteen years old and played through most of the rpgs from Black Isle, Bioware, From Software and Bethesda then it's a pretty good alternative.

Just got this for Christmas too, it's pretty fun so far. Main problems I am seeing right now are:

Having to travel large, bland swathes of land for your next quest. The game peppers in neat points of interest every now and then to reward exploration, but not nearly enough.

Second, the minimap is cluttered as hell. What genius decided to make every harvestable plant it's own icon as the default?

Overall, the game is fun. I think a lot of people look at open-world RPGs and try to compare this to Skyrim, DA, and other similar titles and grow angry with the restrictions relative to those games.

Dodge, use signs, apply oils, don't be a retard. Most encounters can be won by dodging, unless it's way way higher level than you.

Triss is the choice of wish fulfilling. She enables you, she doesn't challenge you. It's all about you. It's a frail, hollow choice. She just wants fun, she just wants to enjoy life. She is appealing on a pretense of liberation. But you have different goals. She may care about Ciri but she's far from concerned about recovering her, and pretty much all of her objectives are a ultimately a distraction.

Yen is extremely grounded. She may be a bitch, but you're an asshole. She accepts you, but doesn't make exceptions for you. And that's challenging. Too challenging for people who are trying to live out escapist fantasy away from anything remotely complex. But in the end Geralt and Yen get each other. They have compatible interests and they're both best together and are much more suited to problem solving in tandem.

When you work with Triss, by and large it's you doing favors. But with Yen, she sets out to do something and tackles problems head on with just as much initiative as Geralt.

Triss is the "perfect girl" because she presents an uncomplicated and carefree life. Yen is perfect for Geralt because she presents an ultimate goal you two can share.

People who choose Triss are far more likely to miss out on that person perfect for themselves, because they're not seeking out a person who matches you and complements you, someone who actualizes you. They're seeking someone who compliments you for nothing and doesn't get in your way but doesn't actualize you.

So much great stuff about Inquisition but it blends together extremely poorly most of the time.

Not only all quest follow the same pattern (press Witcher sens to win), but the combat system is broken, AI is retarded, map has no lvl-design at all, menus are a mess, and controls are terrible.

3/10 on my watch, at least visual is great.

I bought this shit a week ago and it is unplayable on my PS4 pro. Already crashed multiple times when opening the map and the fans of my PS4 are so loud that I think the hardware actually can get damaged.
The most recent patch is out since October but the devs are still "working on it".
Luckily I have other stuff to play at the moment and it was only 20 bucks, otherwise I would be furious

that said witcher 3 is fine but combat will always be the weakest part of witcher games.
I'm not very hyped for Cyberpunk if all you do is find components for cyber implants that give 10% increase damage against x type of enemy. I still think W3 is a good game because it made me rather enjoy the 50h I spent on it, while it was mostly for the dialogues and quests, which I usually get bored of pretty fast.

Definitely don't start it until you finish the main game, you'll be very underlevelled

Post game, you may be at the minimum level but it will overall be too high level. More importantly it will ruin the immersion of the main game which already suffers a bit from running around doing side quests. The DLC make more sense as a postscript to the main story.
