Man, I don't get why so many people are voting for Nier. I just took a listen to it and most of its soundtracks just sounds like melodic background music. Necrodancer has plenty of that, but just as much music to get you pumped and into the beat.

I can understand why so many people like Nier and Cuphead's OSTs, but those bros were in other categories already, they deserve to win those. NecroDancer is great primarily because its a hard as fuck rhythm game and the only rhythm game on the list. And since you posted a Danganronpa image, you should know that there's a Dangonronpa remix of the game's OST, due to Spike Chunisoft publishing the game in Japan. It was exclusive there for a while, but it was added in an update to the english game not too long ago.
In NecroDancer's case, Quality = Quantity. I can listen to any of the soundtracks and still find something to like.
Cuphead is up for tomorrow's vote, you can vote for it then and still show your love and vote for NecroDancer today, it's a win-win.

The context for Nier's soundtrack is important. You can't fully appreciate it without playing the game. Though that's true for any game, Nier has different versions for most songs to fix the context of the moment. It's very pleasing. Since this is just for some stupid steam award, just try listening to some of the songs. I don't think it really matters which since they're all pretty good, just wouldn't recommend listening to "weight of the world" if you planned to ever play the game.

I don't think so, musically speaking in terms of quality of the instruments and composition. Nier is superior to CoTN. However, the music i hear in Nier i feel like i've heard in every other AAA game and movie ever produced. The whole "Orchestra with some woman singing and the occasional choir".
CoTND's OST is inferior to Nier's OST in terms of quality but i think the tracks themselves (And especially in the context of the game) fit amazingly well in the game. You could take a song from another weeb AAA JRPG, place it on Nier and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Again, i don't think that Nier is inferior to CoTND, but it feels more generic because we've heard that style of music like 6000 times already.
